Chuck Wepner didn't hit very hard. Especially for his size.

Those guys started out on lower weight classes.

Natural HW i'll say ALi. He fought on his toes and he didn't pack much of a punch when he planted his feet either. Maybe after his layoffs he could punch, but he was a weak hitter in his prime. 215 lb.

ali could hiut hard if he wanted to, he certainly is no powerpuncher but he wasn't worse than average IMO

I certainly wouldn't call Ali a power puncher but he certainly holds enough KO or stoppage wins over quality fighters with proven chins. Calling him the weakest heavyweight puncher of all time just shows the ignorance of the poster.

The guy danced on his toes, he didn't get enough leverage on his punches. Cleveland Williams had a porcelain chin. Jab him and he'll fall. Ali needed THAT many punches to put his glass jaw down. He had a decent punch after his layoff, but he was slapping guys in the 60s.

yea Ali was weak puncher but there's got to be somebody weaker like that guy mentioned earlier with no KO's even then i'm sure there was some one who was worse with a negative record

he hit hard enough to knock ali down.

Please go do some research on the above before you blindly believe Wepner could do legitimately what Foreman couldn't. Ali hit reasonably hard when he wanted to, stating that he was the weakest HW puncher ever is pure ignorance. He rarely ever sat on his punches and threw hard. I don't believe Ali was any more powerful following his layoff, he simply lost the ability to move fluidly thus needed to inflict as much damage on his opponents before they got on the inside. Ali's power was average.

A very controvershall knockdown I might add - definatly not a powerful shot.

I hear you but assumed the thread starter meant known people. There are probably hundreds of weaker punchers than Byrd out there but knowbody knows who the **** they are there for who gives a ****.Lawrence should be slightly know now though since he beat McCline and got KOed by brock so he is a fair pick I suppose.

Wepner was an above average hitter. His hard punch, chin, and size are all he really had. He was nothing extraordinary, but the guy could punch a little.

The answer to this would probably be some blown up middleweight arm puncher who was competitive with the top heavyweights of his time, if such a man ever existed.

I would go so far as to say that Ali was above average in power. Not raw power, but virtual power. With that much speed, and the ability to catch his opponents off guard (when he wasn't telegraphing his straights, anyway), at full extension, he had some sting in those punches. He often puffed people up or cut them after very few solid connections.

Byrd has to be up there among notables. For his size and his skill, I'm surprised that Lennox Lewis didn't hit harder. That doesn't mean he's one of the weakest, just surprising.

McNeely didn't hit very hard apparently. In his fight with Tyson, when Mike clearly had some ring rust, McNeely connected more than was usual for Tyson to almost no effect.

If we're talking about natural heavyweights, then my vote would have to go with Buster Mathis Jr.

What do you mean.

McNeely was a hard hitter, Iron Mike just had an iron chin. Hurricane KO'd bums, but you gotta have power to KO that many boxers.

He's been on two recent PPVs, so I'd say he's well known to boxing fans...

All right, so McNeely wasn't a wuss. You know, watching that fight again, it's surprising to me that he (Pete) wasn't a little better given his style. He was pretty quick. He couldn't take much of a stroke though.

Byrd gets a vote among the well-knowns. Mathis Jr. slapped as well. I think I hit harder than Lawrence.

I just finished watching the Butterbean fight, McNeeley is garbage. He took one punch, then when into heroin withdrawal and was stopped on the ropes.

I know most of you people are pretty retarded so as usual let me give you some logic.First of all any persons in here who said somebody like Toney,Bryd, or Ezzard Charles are mentally retarded.Non of these people were heavyweights. Both Toney and Bryd as we know were middlweights who decided to move up to heavyweight and Charles was a middleweight who decided to fight at 180 pounds which isnt a heavyweight.
One of the weakest punching heavyweights that i can think of is Taurus Sykes 230 pounds of heavyweight 24 wins 3 loses and only 6 knock outs. The man is a joke.
