I wonder how long before they're arrested as "terrorists" as defined by the Patriot Act.

Colorado Teens Fined for Giving Cookies to Neighbor

Fri Feb 4,10:49 PM ET Oddly Enough - Reuters

DURANGO, Colo. (Reuters) - A Colorado judge ordered two teen-age girls to pay about $900 for the distress a neighbor said they caused by giving her home-made cookies adorned with paper hearts.

The pair were ordered to pay $871.70 plus $39 in court costs after neighbor Wanita Renea Young, 49, filed a lawsuit complaining that the unsolicited cookies, left at her house after the girls knocked on her door, had triggered an anxiety attack that sent her to the hospital the next day.

Taylor Ostergaard, then 17, and Lindsey Jo Zellitte, 18, paid the judgment on Thursday after a small claims court ruling by La Plata County Court Judge Doug Walker, a court clerk said on Friday.

The girls baked cookies as a surprise for several of their rural Colorado neighbors on July 31 and dropped off small batches on their porches, accompanied by red or pink paper hearts and the message: "Have a great night."

The Denver Post newspaper reported on Friday that the girls had decided to stay home and bake the cookies rather than go to a dance where there might be cursing and drinking.

It reported that six neighbors wrote letters entered as evidence in the case thanking the girls for the cookies.

But Young said she was frightened because the two had knocked on her door at about 10:30 p.m. and run off after leaving the cookies.

She went to a hospital emergency room the next day, fearing that she had suffered a heart attack, court records said.

The judge awarded Young her medical costs, but did not award punitive damages. He said he did not think the girls had acted maliciously but that 10:30 was fairly late at night for them to be out.

....Yes, as I understand that Bush himself gave the orders to fine the juvenile delinquents in question. WTF does this have to do with the Patriot act or Bush or this administration? This a local situation where the police overreacted and that's all it is.

....That's probably what she thought she was getting. Who the **** leaves cookies on doorsteps at 10:30 at night and runs off before the door is answered? IMO those girls are ****in idiots too. Who the hell would eat cookies left by someone on your porch?

The girls were found to have committed an act which distressed the population of their neighborhood.

This could fall under the domestic terrorism definition:

Section 802 Patriot Act

Among other things, this section states that acts committed within the United States "dangerous to human life that are a violation of the criminal laws" can be considered acts of domestic terrorism if they "appear to be intended" to "influence the policy of a government by intimidation or coercion," or "to intimidate or coerce a civilian population."

The intimidation of striking fear into the hearts of the neighborhood population could make them domestic terrorists.

Not to mention that the judge's decision states that the girls contributed to a condition in the woman who sued them, making them responsible for the injuries she suffered as a result of their actions.

One could even link an intense panic attack to being "life threatening", furthering the case.

What I wrote in bold was a joke, but a joke that isn't too far from the truth. If the woman had died, perhaps they would have been charged. We've already used the Patriot Act to charge a gang member in the death of a bystander who was shot.

The fact that the judge ruled in the woman's favor just goes to show how insane the current atmosphere is.

some stupid *****es even step foot in my yard at 10:30 at night and they might not make to the front door let alone out of the yard or to a court for a hearing. as far as that far fetched patriot act b.s neils is trying to have you beleive is too funny. he lives in a totally different world. reminds me of one of my childhood friends father that was a coke addict that did way too much lsd. he was parinoid as hell. everything was a govt conspiracy. gangs are terrorists as far as i'm concerned and should be dealt with as such when they are killing innocent people. as for the ruling in this case...the lady filing the charge should be charged with letting these bimbos get in and out of here yard unnoticed. where i live it is illegal to NOT own a fire arm. that law has been there since the beginning and wont be going away. as far as the girls go.. well if they were hot then they should have had to come over to my place to bake some cookies......with very little on.

I didn't know there was a law against knocking on someones door. If the old hag had a anxiety attack because someone rang her doorbell then she should see a Dr and get some drugs to stop it. As for teh 2 girls they shouldn't have been charged with anything and the old ***** should keep her lights off. They tried to do something good and that old ***** had to go and screw things up and sue them. I hope that old woman has a ****ty life and is unhappy till she croaks. OLD *****
