Riddick Bowe was better on the inside, and would stand a good chance if this turned into a slugfest. But Larry Holmes would probably stay on the outside and control the pace with that superb jab of his. I can see Holmes working his way to a comfortable win by decision.

Larry Holmes by UD.

i think Bowe ends up with a tko at some point. Bowe also had a good jab so maybe he can hold his own long enough to get Holmes on the inside.Holmes never had a great chin but he had great heart always getting up to win but this time he is fighting a biggger man with great power, good hand speed, and good boxing skills this is not Shavers. Bowe TKo around 10 or a hard fought win on the cards

"Holmes never had a good chin". Shavers nearly decapitated him but he got up and went on to win the fight.

Bowe was very good in the extremely short prime that he had. Still, Larry is just too well rounded in all aspects of the game. Holmes would fight the fight HE wanted to and Bowe would follow. Holmes takes Bowe to deep water and drowns him. After a valiant fight, Bowe gets stopped by TKO in the 13th or 14th round.

I havent seen much of Holmes. But i go for a victory for him. I saw Bowe versus the polish heavyweight and wasnt impressed. Not exactly great against Hide as well. But i thought he did well to beat Holyfield.

Thanks for all of your responses guys.
I apologise for starting a thread with my first post, but I was looking for some feedback for my question.
I personally give the edge to holmes, but I see some room for doubt as well. If you ignore Bowe's sadly short reign and the inconsistent performances thereafter, this fight holds real intigue.
I see this as a very closly contested battle because of Bowe's excellent inside-fighting, uppercuts, excellent stamina, and under-rated outside fighting. Although Holmes gets higher marks in my opinion for doing more in his career, Bowe just seems to present some real challenges for Holmes in this match.

There is no way Holmes could stopped a prime Bowe.Holmes stuggled to stop glass chin Shavers.Norton walked thru his punches like they were nothing and based on most of you Norton had a glass chin as well.
Holmes had only a decent chin.Being knocked down and getting back up just means you have heart.Ali was hit more times by Shavers than Holmes did and never went down.Holmes jab is overrated.Who did he keep off of him with his jab?Nobody worth mentioning.Holmes just threw it constantly because he had no other punch in his arsenal.
Bowe did struggle big time with Golota but Bowe was washed up at that point in time. The told of keep gaining weight and then losing it really quick drains fluid from around your brain. So Bowe substained far more damage from being punched than he should of if he took care of himself. But this pole is a prime Bowe vs a prime Holmes.
Bowe was too big and powerful to be hurt by somebody like Holmes.Holmes could of jabbed his heart out.If a fight like Cooney could give him trouble then the superior skilled better chin, stronger Bowe would of had his way with Holmes.I would say Bowe in about 8 rounds...Less if Bowe decided to jump all over Holmes.

holmes UD..

a master technician like holmes will always beat a jack of all trades fighter like bowe.

this is a very good fight so i wont act silly in this thread for all u meanies, i could see this going either way, but id lean more towards a primed, non brain damaged bowe for a win, either by late tko or ud...he had a good jab, and longer reach than holmes (i think?) and he had a very good uppercut, although he was just a flash in the pan n didnt have the longevity of holmes...

Yeah, ok sure. A prime bowe did as well against a past prime holyfield as a washed up holmes did against a prime holyfield, so a prime holmes would be too much for bowe.

holmes by lopsided ud.
