Another stupid thread but me and my mate were arguing. I was saying that you can get a six pack by doing 200 sit ups a night for a month wont you. and hes saying different. So whats the answer, Can you or not?

No you can't. Six pack is a matter of having a low body fat percentage. 200 situps a night for a month won't burn much fat, if any. And your ab muscles won't grow much either, because 200 reps is way too low intensity to stimulate hypertrophy much.

Somebody on this forum said something i thought was true

Abs are made in the Kitchen not in the gym

and its true for the most part, if you do alot of situps you will have a very lean stomach,but unless you diet properly you will never have the desired "six pack"

We'll we are on about me. I don't really have any fat and only have the outlines of a six pack. I'm 5'6 and weigh 130lbs, with about 11% body fat, and my BMI on the internet was 21.0

You have to run, and eat better to get a six pack. You can't just do sit ups.

To get a six pack, you should probably go 8% BF, at your size and weight. Sit ups alone, won't do it.

Abs are just like any other muscle. If you wanted to take fat off of your biceps would you do hundreds of curls every day???? NO!!!

Situps everyday is a great idea for boxers. But it is majorly overtraining. IF you want your abs to show up you should only work them once, twice, or AT MOST 3 times a week.

Muscle rebuilding happens when you are resting. To build any muscle you must tear it down and then let it regrow. That is why doing abs everyday is great for athleates, but a bodybuilder would never ever work them that much.

Situps ever day are better than no sittups at at all, but situps twice a week are much much better, than situps every day. And diet matters more than anything.

no man ur not stupid. you can get it done at the doctor with a machine. they pinch your skin on your back, legs, stomach and otehr various places and they can calculate it. or u can take measurments of urself and submit your weight and height and all that to an online bf calculator

It depends of a few things. I have to get my bodyfat down to around 7 to see a six pack. Other people having abs u see even when they got more fat. Anyways its about diet and cardio as much if not more than working those abs.

i just calculated mine i got like 4% but im really skinny, what things should i be eating to get a 6 pack, i already have toned abs and do 200 sit ups a day.

4% ?!?! What method did you use to "calculate"?

First of all, BF that low is NOT healthy, ESPECIALLY if you're skinny (the less muscle mass you have, the less fat you'll need to have to be 4%). Second, if you're 4% and you DON'T have a six pack??!?!? :confused:

4% isn't necessarily unhealthy. Some world class athletes have had 3 and 4.

I know that, but they don't walk around like that all the time. That WOULD be unhealthy. When their BF is that low, they're in an extreme state of training. Top condition, where you can only stay for a short while.

A good example is David Reid, who insisted on staying at 154 in spite of his trainer advising him to go to 160. As a result, his BF became extremely low, 3-4%, if I remember correctly. This was around the time he started to fade badly down the stretch in his fights (pre-Trinidad), and may have been a major factor in his demise as a fighter.

If someone walks around at 4% BF, I'd say they're lying, sick or about to get sick. Especially if they're skinny (ie not a lot of muscle).
4% BF and no six pack? Haha...


Edit: Oh, and I do believe the opreative word here, is WORLD CLASS ATHLETES (that's three words..)

My Mexican body has about 4% body no visable fat at all. You can see his six pack though it looks like granite. At 4% body fat if u cant see your abs, you either are very sick or have a terrible abs routine.

Two other explanations:
1. The BF measurement was done W R O N G
2. The dude's a ****ing liar.

He could post a pic of his 4% BF stomach with no six pack. I'd like to see how the hell that looks :D

not many people walk around at 4% bf and are healthy most people who try to do that are extreme bodybuilders when they've cut down for competitions so every single muscle sticks out

those scales dont work if you have alot of lean mass the ones i used said i had 30% bodyfat!!!

LOL he does have 4% body fat but he has no fat ANYWHERE else on his body...the 4% is all on his abs for some reason. Nobody knows why...
