Sturm hasn't done anything that would tell me he's going to beat Hopkins. He would get broken down to the body and then Hopkins will work upstairs. His defense is like Wrights but he doesn't have it perfected like Winky does. He won't look nearly as good against Hopkins like he looked against Oscar.

Sturm looked better overall against DLH although the result was less impressive, he actually doled out a more severe beating to Oscar than Hopkins did. I think Oscar got psyched out and gladly took the first available noble exit that Hopkins furnished him with. Sturm's phenomenal jab will befuddle Hopkins. Bernard will grow old trying to deal with it & will end up taking a split decision loss. Smart money takes the long odds.

Sturm is too robotic and predictable for Bernard Hopkins in my opinion. Bernard can adapt to any style and has the ability to outbox Felix Sturm. Felix Sturm seems like a good fighter but i cannot seeing him ever retiring Bernard

FrankJack

Sturm's got more than a jab, his left hand is strong in general, I don't think you were payin much attention to the fight bro. The first punch that stumbled Oscar in the first few second of the first round was a right hook. I would like it if both his hands were that strong, though. Sturm can be a good fighter I think, I wish that he was more agressive against DLH and threw punches in the clinch. He should work on his speed a little bit too.

But as of right now, I don't see Sturm retiring Hopkins, I'm sure Bernard was peeping Felix's game when he fought Oscar. If he wasn't, then he's not as smart as I thought he was, cus I would have. Sturm's jab is great, no doubt. But I don't think he's beating Hopkins anytime soon. I WOULD like to see them fight though. BUT, if that happens people will start saying again that Bernard fight weak fighters.

Sturm is younger. Much younger.

grayfist
09-20-2004, 12:35 AM
It looked to me that when they met, Sturm was a tad quicker than De la Hoya. This makes him dangerous for Hopkins, especially, given that Sturm's style is to stay outside; slide and glide, stick out the jab, befuddle the opponent. His punch, though, is not the type that would deter Hopkins who can of course try and wade through the jabs to get to Sturm. Hop can roughhouse. But Sturm is a natural middleweight, an equally big man and would not be easy for Hopkins to manhandle. Sturm has shown stamina and consistency:he can keep excellent pace through 12 rounds moving side-to-side and in-and-out. Hopkins cannot employ a wait out tactic, i.e., wait for Sturm to tire out in the later rounds. He'd have to chase Sturm every round and grab him. I think, in Hopkins-Sturm,the referee's officiating style would have much to do with the fight result.

Hopkins bust him up and stops him late with easeHop did not outbox Oscar in the early going. The little of the jabs that were thrown and landed in the first four rounds were mostly De la Hoya's. Sturm threw/landed more jabs per round than De la Hoya (compustat) when they met, +, De la Hoya stood face up vs. Hopkins. Many wonder what would have happened had he stayed outside and boxed. Sturm consistently stays outside. And he has not been known to fade in the later rounds. Can Hopkins get to Sturm; grab him and force him to fight up close? Will the ref not be one who's prone to break up in-fighting too early? A highly "visible" ref would be in Sturm's favor.

Sturm will not beat hopkins not b4 his 65th birthday.

come on for crying out loud hopkins is the best middleweight since hagler, BAR NONE, Sturm just got robbed against a fat de la hoya, dont get so carried away you are talking bout two fighters who are miles apart in the class department.

Sturm is a solid pro with a decent career ahead of him, Hopkins is a gaurneteed hall of famer who has made 19 defences is one of the top five all time middleweights (in my book anyway).

its just not even comparable, hopkins tko 5 if they meet.

i suppose you might be hoping for the fight in germany so that we can have another sven ottke robin / reid debacle, where BHop isnt allowed to hit Sturm, maybe then and if they tie his legs together and his gloves it might be close

he is also upright, exposed, light handed and his midriff will be banged like a tom tom til he wants to piss blood Im afraid.

you did just see the body shot that put down de la hoya, and you did also see how many times de la hoya cracked him in the body when they fought, you think he can last 12 rounds with B hop with those tactics, not a hope.

you aint talking about an overweight de la hoya here, you are talking about a guy who has one more defence at middle do you honestly think he is gonna let anyone beat him?

nah. I like sturm but the best thing for his career is if he contests the belts post Bhop retirement.

I think that Hopkins would win, but I don't think Sturm would be completely blown out- on the outside Sturm would have the advantage to a degree because of Sturm's jab. Other then that though Hopkins would be the better fighter, look for similar results as the DLH and Hopkins fight if these two square off.

I agree Bernard is a allround better fighter than Felix Sturm. Sturm would take his punishment but i could see him either getting beaten badly on points or stopped later on in the fight.

Although i have only seen one Felix Sturm fight so i could be drastically underestimating him but i doubt it.

It would be a interesting fight for a middleweight title defense but i personally don't think Bernard will want to fight him. Bernard is coming up to the end of his caareer now and has shown plenty of signs of wanting to fight pound for pound fighters only. Tarver and Roys names have been mentioned so much recently. I have to agree with Bernards way of thinking, the bigger the names on the end of his record the even greater he will be in the record books.

Although he clearly outpointed DLH in their encounter all he did was to out jab DLH. Nothing comes after that jab. He seldom throws that right and seldom throws combinations. BH can easily beat him by late stoppage.

Hopkins will take the jab away from Sturm like he took away Taylors. in the 2nd fight Taylor threw more jabs and by throwing more he landed more, but none were affective.

Hopkins is way to crafty and skilled for Sturm to win. Sturm isnt going to knockout Hopkins, he isnt going to outbox Hopkins, he isnt going to beat him up on the inside.

Taylor couldn't even get a clean shot on Hopkins, what makes you think that Sturm is going to land a big shot for a KO? he isnt.

as for Hopkins getting old, he is, but he is more competitive than 98% of the boxers currently fighting right now, he is still in better shape than majority of fighters today. he's never struggled at the scales. he never blows up in between fights! he gave Taylor all he could handle. and he made him mis alot too, also he out landed Taylor in both fights, almost all power shots too.

Sturm is a good fighter but not good enough to beat Hopkins. Hopkins knows how to take guys out of their game plan.

He would beat Sturm by UD maybe even late round ko.......

I think sturm has nothing to look for with B_Hop. To much for him to take on.
