BrooklynBomber 05-03-2006, 10:40 PM Nope, he gotta fight Wlad. BIGPOPPAPUMP 05-03-2006, 10:46 PM toney's old, sloppy, barely trains, no stamina, and losing skill. should he retire b4 he gets hurt? That doesnt say much for Rahman who couldnt put the old, sloppy, barely trains, no stamina, and losing skill fighter away in 12 or take a clear cut decision. BrooklynBomber 05-03-2006, 10:48 PM That doesnt say much for Rahman who couldnt put the old, sloppy, barely trains, no stamina, and losing skill fighter away in 12 or take a clear cut decision. Well, Rahman did not look like much last couple of his fights. Da Iceman 05-03-2006, 10:50 PM That doesnt say much for Rahman who couldnt put the old, sloppy, barely trains, no stamina, and losing skill fighter away in 12 or take a clear cut decision. even in his old sloppy barely trains losing skill no stamina state toney still is very slick and has lots of tricks up his sleeve. and he had the flu. Kball15 05-03-2006, 10:53 PM i like toney he's almost the man. I want him to fight for as long as he can. and yea, he has gotta beat vlad, or wlad or something. whatever he changed his name to glenspen 05-03-2006, 10:57 PM He can't retire until we someone beat the living crap out of him...only then will I be satisfied Da Iceman 05-03-2006, 10:58 PM He can't retire until we someone beat the living crap out of him...only then will I be satisfied why do you hate him? PessimisticPug 05-03-2006, 11:02 PM Calling James fat is one thing, calling him a ***** is another. Oh well, not standing infront of him I guess you guys can say what you want to. James is still ok. He does need to get his conditioning up but he is as skilled a fighter as is out there. Granted he's slowed abit with age and injury but he is still one of the elite. Rockin' :boxing: Kball15 05-03-2006, 11:06 PM one of the elite? thats pushing it. He is definetly still a solid fighter. his reflexes have slowed noticably and injuries have had their way with him. But all in all, i love toney and wish he could fight forever. Just like his style and stuff. glenspen 05-03-2006, 11:07 PM why do you hate him? Because he's wasting his god given talent. I used to really enjoy watching him fight, he had it all, handspeed, reaction time, accuracy, defence...At 190lbs when he faced Holyfield he looked like a fresh of breath air in the HWD. I can't stand how he now insults boxing turning up for fights at 240lbs...I just want him finished off now. PessimisticPug 05-03-2006, 11:07 PM one of the elite? thats pushing it. Name 5 fighters that match him in defensive skill. Rockin' :boxing: there aren't 5 fighters that can match him defensively, even when he's overweight. Teddy Atlas hammered him about his weight on fnf not too long ago. i hope he listens K-DOGG 05-03-2006, 11:13 PM Toney should retire; but I will not vote on any thread that refers to a 3 (should be 4) division World Champion as a "*****". BIGPOPPAPUMP 05-03-2006, 11:14 PM Calling James fat is one thing, calling him a ***** is another. Name 5 fighters that match him in defensive skill. Rockin' :boxing: I guess. but thats mostly because every heavyweight sucks compared to what Toney used to face. He learned a lot from his experience with those guys and the dramatic drop in talent allows him to stay up there. He is good defensively though... Nautilus 05-03-2006, 11:15 PM I second that sir. I second that too. Toney has tremendous guts. You can't name call Toney. PessimisticPug 05-03-2006, 11:16 PM rockin i thought you hated james for what he did to jackie? I lost alot of respect for him but objectively I would be a fool to say that James is **** and a fat *****. The guy has old school skills and is still able to display them against younger competition, and win. James was alot of fun back in the day, but I only lost respect as a person for him not as a fighter. Rockin' :boxing: K-DOGG 05-03-2006, 11:16 PM I second that too. Toney has tremendous guts. GreatestIam 05-03-2006, 11:20 PM This is total disrespect of a great fighter who happened to come in his heaviest(2pounds more)in what many would call the biggest fight of his career and even after fighting to a draw in the sloppiest condition weve seen him in ever, against a guy who proclaimed being in the best shape of his career, we try and write him off, come on now its James Toney he'll be back and if not in better shape he'll atleast gove us a fight, a good one at that Nautilus 05-03-2006, 11:20 PM read ^^^^, i dont think he's a ***** i got mad respect for him. then why did you make this thread? That will be a circus act. What's Tony gonna do..chew on Wlads knee caps. I won't even bother watching that fight if it's on PPV. 6'7 vs 5'9...No thanks. Rockin' :boxing: Living Legend 05-04-2006, 12:26 AM toney's old, sloppy, barely trains, no stamina, and losing skill. should he retire b4 he gets hurt? Those are pretty harsh words, I bet james Toney would slap your teeth out of the back of your head if you said that to his face... GunStar 05-04-2006, 12:48 AM toney's old, sloppy, barely trains, no stamina, and losing skill. should he retire b4 he gets hurt?He should retire when he gets hurt, it still hasn't happened. I think Toney can fight for 2 or 3 more years, but he does need to get his act together & don't come out of shape for the rest of his career, because his clock his thicking. the_truth_1984 05-04-2006, 01:20 AM He needs to retire. As much as I like Rahman he is an average fighter and if Toney got a draw(a clear win for Rock imo) then he's not going to beat the better fighters in the division(Wladimir). PhatMonkey 05-04-2006, 01:21 AM Tony is apparently back at Billy Blanks gym and is talking of fighting soon. Dont write him off yet. dansweeney 05-04-2006, 01:22 AM He needs to retire. As much as I like Rahman he is an average fighter and if Toney got a draw(a clear win for Rock imo) then he's not going to beat the better fighters in the division(Wladimir). if toney wants to really conquer the heavy division, then he seriously needs to be no more than 220 tops. especially at his age GunStar 05-04-2006, 01:28 AM He needs to retire. As much as I like Rahman he is an average fighter and if Toney got a draw(a clear win for Rock imo) then he's not going to beat the better fighters in the division(Wladimir).Rahman is not an averagre fighter, he has the best resume in the HW division. The Rahman that fought Toney was in his best shape. Rahman is another guy that doesn't come in shape in everyfight, just watch the Ruiz fight & then go watch the fight that he KO's Lennox Lewis. Da Iceman 05-04-2006, 08:25 AM its a shame how rahman was in the best shape of his career but couldnt get a clear decision over a fat middleweight who had the flu  Da Iceman 05-04-2006, 08:25 AM if he acts on his words i think he can beat toney if they fight again. JOM'S 05-04-2006, 09:16 AM i think he should fight until it is clear who is the HW Champ ... although another loss, he should consider retiring Healty ... Yaman 05-04-2006, 10:48 AM His big mouth should retire forever. Not his fighting. I want someone to damage him for life, someone like a white fighter he hates, someone like Wlad. Do i hate him? No, he doesn't deserve that kind of attention imo. Double 05-04-2006, 10:56 AM If, and I hope it's not a BIG if, If he can get in shape for 2-3 more fights he'll give any HW a run for their money and probaly beats 99% of them. Again I said "IF" Double 05-04-2006, 10:58 AM i think he should fight until it is clear who is the HW Champ ... although another loss, he should consider retiring Healty ... Let's keep this in mind, he has yet to lose (officially) as a heavyweight, and he's fought 2 of the alphabet champs. i think thye Rahman draw was a wake up call and we'll see the best the 39 year old Toney has to ofer in his next fight. Manny_P 05-04-2006, 11:06 AM he shouldn't retire. As a 'fat' heavyweight, no one has even beaten him up yet. Imagine if he decides to get healthy then. Besides, the heavyweight right now is weak and anybody can take it. It's like flipping a coin everytime there's a heavyweight fight. joeytrimble 05-04-2006, 11:07 AM Calling James fat is one thing, calling him a ***** is another. K-DOGG 05-04-2006, 02:05 PM Nah, he shouldnt. I would love him to get in shape for his next fight tho. Your avatar!! Holy crap, I had that game! "Pro Wrestling"....that's the Amazon using a foreign object on Fighter Hayabusa!! TOO MUCH!!! LOL!!! ROSEWOOD 05-04-2006, 04:13 PM WHY RETIRE. The HW class sucks now so that means its wide open. Hell he will fight until he is 60 because he is simply smarter than everyone else in his class. GasPed 05-04-2006, 04:31 PM Attention getting through disrespect....not a healthy practice. That's pretty rich - considering how James Toney gets all his attention. :lol1: GasPed 05-04-2006, 04:33 PM I second that too. Toney has tremendous guts. You can't name call Toney. Well, at least we can agree - he does have a tremendous gut! :lol1: GasPed 05-04-2006, 04:39 PM Seriously though, Toney is still unbeaten as a heavyweight, and even though he's not in his prime anymore, he's a good fighter. I wouldn't favor him against any of the current titleists, but I'd give him a "live dog" chance against Rahman, Liakhovich and Valuev. Wlad, no, he doesn't stand a chance but any of the others are not out of the question. So no compelling reason to retire... K-DOGG 05-04-2006, 04:43 PM That's pretty rich - considering how James Toney gets all his attention. :lol1: Point taken. :D VanesBoxing 05-04-2006, 06:07 PM I think he likes Burger King more though. There was a thread here b4 the Rahman fight, some boxingscene poster said he saw Toney in line at a Burger King somewhere. Funny stuff. jangeorg 05-05-2006, 06:56 AM I would love to see Mark McGuire hit him in the head with a homerun slugging swing. Hell I would pay to see it LondonRingRules 05-05-2006, 05:15 PM Not in the elite? Name 5 fighters that match him in defensive skill.
