I got a black eye last night at sparring. The worst part of this stupid thing is that I now have to tell everyone I know and many I don't what happened. And everyone at work is going to ask "Hey what happened?" And they always assume you got beat up. I feel like pulling a Fight Club and just having blood in my teeth and smiling when people ask. Any one have a similar situation?

eh, something similar, I guess.....One morning when I was still in high school, I woke up and my eye was swollen, not blackened, just swollen (still not really sure as to why). EVERYBODY at school assumed I had been beaten up and even though they let it go after I told them I hadn't been fighting they would have that look on their face like, "man, poor kid, that's messed up." So, I just lied to everybody and said I got in a scuffle at the bus stop and my brother and myself beat the guy up.

just be honest and tell them exactly what happened and that this happens when you spar sometimes.

i habitually, when i used to be in it, would just put a scowl on my face so people knew not to ask me stupid questions. seemed to work.

I've had it a few times, its annoying. I was sparring someone and got careless, they caught me with a right hand which give me a cut on my cheek bone and bruising. It was a new job so people didnt know i boxed and the got the impression i got beat up, which couldnt be futher from the truth because i was giving this guy a beating.

In my early twenties I was working out, sparring a bit....I did this while also being in a Philadelphia street hockey league.
No one believed me when I'd show up at work with bruises, swellings...that they happened while playing hockey, not while boxing.
