View Full Version : Why is meldrick taylor still fighting?
chingon28 02-03-2005, 12:14 PM Did anyone see the chavez-taylor show after the gatti-leija fight? I remember watching that fight knew that taylor had left some part of him in the ring that night. he was never really the same after it. but whats up with him still fighting being in the condition he is in.
Kornhusker 02-03-2005, 12:17 PM Just because you have brain damage doesn't mean you don't have to pay your bills anymore. What else can he do for a living?
abdiel2k3 02-03-2005, 12:18 PM his last fight was in 02
so actually he isnt still fighten
but def fought more then he should have
Slipx 02-03-2005, 12:27 PM yeah. After that first Chavez bout, Meldrick Taylor took some brutal shots in the bouts that followed. I mean brutal, deadly punches to the head. He got hit just about every worst way you can get hit. Too bad he was a Philly fighter, that's what ruined him. Being a Philly fighter. Those guys place a value on waging war in the ring, Taylor only had so much 'box' in him.
chingon28 02-03-2005, 12:28 PM ok i didnt know that. i thought that show was kinda old but i figured he was still fighting. but you would think that the boxing commission would not give him a license.
chingon28 02-03-2005, 12:30 PM what are you talking about theres is many ways to pay bills. what good is it going to do you to pay bills if you are a vegtable.

well either way
if he still wanted to fight
they might still let him
but then again they did decide to not let holyfield fight
so maybe they wouldnt let him fight
MikeHunt 02-03-2005, 12:35 PM His speech was starting to slur before the rematch with Chavez, ironically he was winning that fight yoo up until he got KO'd again. The sport of boxing just chewed Meldrick Taylor up and then spit him out.........
chingon28 02-03-2005, 12:35 PM thats what im saying thats just seems messed up. it really comes down to the fighters though. if they want to keep on doin it then thats there call.
it was sad to see him such bad condition
Kornhusker 02-03-2005, 12:42 PM what are you talking about theres is many ways to pay bills. what good is it going to do you to pay bills if you are a vegtable.
What do you mean what am I talking about? I thought it was pretty clear what i was saying. I know there are other ways to survive, and I agree that he should of retired long ago. Fact is he got licensed to make money the only way he knew how at any expense. They say the last thing to go is a fighters power, I say the last to go is a fighters pride.
hollister 02-03-2005, 10:15 PM Yeah, I felt pretty bad seeing him like that, and still talking about being a superstar, that's just messed up.
loangunZ 02-04-2005, 02:00 AM yea sad story but thats the downside of boxing
bonafuwa 02-04-2005, 02:19 AM To see such a fast, flashy fighter turn into that is just disheartening. I hate watching that particular legendary nights episode. It kills me each time I hear his speech now.
xrhythmxnxbluesx 02-04-2005, 02:46 AM i would think.. that if he hadnt lost the chavez bout... he wouldnt be the way he is...
MikeHunt 02-04-2005, 03:50 AM Did anyone see the chavez-taylor show after the gatti-leija fight? He'S FIGHTING BECAUSE HE WANTS TOO (DUH) AND HE'S TOO ****ING STUPID TO REALIZE THAT HIS EGGS HAVE BEEN SCRAMBLED AND HE SHOULD TAKE THAT JANITORS JOB AT PIGGLY WIGGLY.........
