We are 6 hours ahead of you US guys, it is 9:40 pm now, the show begins in an hour, but they might show a European championship fight first and lots of interviews first.

Oh boy, I hope Sven Ottke won't be there again.

Ok, 30 minutes to go.
My final prediction: Wlad will win, but I think that this time Byrd will give Wlad a much tougher challenge. Dont forget Chris got some pop behind these gloves, he just never uses it. But this time I think it will be different. For Chris its do or die time, and I think that he will answer the call, Saying all this, I still believe that Wlad will beat him. Just not as easily as some of the fellow members think.

I look for a UD from Byrd. Lots of speed and skill.

BrooklynBomber
04-22-2006, 04:32 PM
Not much speed anymore. Byrd's feet were never that fast anyway.
He mostly relied on his upper body movement.
He is now what, 36, his speed has definately decreased. he is def. not as elusive.

BrooklynBomber

Its his heart and his experience that can help him a lot, but than again Wlad also got heart and experience.
Anyway, good luck to both fighters and may the best man win.

He looked good against McCline.

BrooklynBomber

He looked good against McCline.
No, not really. When McCline still had some gas left he was having the fight in his hands. Kd'ed Byrd (in second I think, though I might be wrong). but McCline was his usual self and gased by round 6. Thats where Byrd started doing his thing. But than again he only won by like 1 point margin.
Again, if Byrd is gonna fight his usual style, he is in deep, deep ****.
Only if he decides to bum rush Wlad at some point of a fight is his chance. Nobody ever outboxed Wlad, only ko'ed him.

He is fighting a guy tonight that poops out pretty quick. I think it will be a good fight.

Again, incorrect. In his last fight Wlad showed a good stamina. He fought back and controlled the fight for 12 rounds. As of recent history he only gassed out in Brewster fight. In Sanders fight he did not have time to gass out. Also a lot of Wlad's ko's against decent to good opposition were after round 6. So yet again if Wlad comes prepared(not just in shape but with a good fight plan) he does not "poop out".

Round 1:

Wlad comes out pawing. Byrd lands a straight left to the midsection. Both guys pawing at eachother, Byrd has the gaurd up high. Feeling out process between the two.

Wlad shooting the jab through the gaurd. Byrd landing another straight left to the body. Both guys standing still exchanging little jabs.

Wlad lands the jab and keeps pawing. Not much action...and Byrd is missing his punches.

Even round, I can't score it. But Byrd looks a little timid.

The handspeed is too much for Byrd at this point, Another crushing right hand on Byrd. Lead right hand lands on Byrd. Wlad walks him around with the left hand. Byrd not landing a damn thing.

Great job RWK.

Thanks.

My final thoughts go as follow. The fight was pretty much how I expected it would go, because we have to keep in mind Wladimir was fighting Chris Byrd. He doesn't have the punch to hurt him, and that's just awful. There is nothing Byrd does better than him, with the exception of duck punches.

The arsenal of punches Byrd was hit with reminded me of the Pre Sanders Wlad except the key difference this time...is he clinches a bit.

That's how Steward trained Lennox to protect himself and I must say....Steward and his new training influences are the best thing ever. At this point in time Wlad is fighting alot like Lennox did. Jabs, Nasty rights, and that little quick clinch.

I also agree with what Larry Merchant stated in there is nothing wrong with the way Wlad clinches. It's a fast grab, and he doesn't do it all that often.

I like the idea that he can do that against a guy that punches really hard, and he can stay on the outside landing the hard right hand. That's a frustrating style for anyone in the division to fight and it's only going to get better.

Credit Byrd for fighting like a man, putting his gaurd up and trying to wear WK out. It was a horror show, but he went out like a warrior, and even admitted it himself.

He's not on Wlad's level as a fighter, but he recieved a great payday and earned alot of respect.

man,,,that reminded me a lot of lennox lewis. the way he kind of had his left hand out there to keep byrd at a distance and push him back and occasionally clinch briefly to get a rest. great coaching by steward and great execution by wlad. if he fights the same way against everyone else he has a good chance of keeping that belt for a while. the only guy I could see giving him big trouble is if he rematched peter again. because of peter's chin and right hand. I think he'd spank brewster in a rematch and easily kayo rahman who has no defensive ability or toney who just doesnt have the reach or power to trouble him

some people are clueless when it comes to clinching or holding. wlad was not holding against byrd,,,,he was clinching briefly. this technique is done to catch a brief rest. ali did it brilliantly throught his career. steward also had lewis doing it later in his career and it served him well

If you watch the way he absorbed punishment against Tyson and Vitali.....you'd see a guy that can remain dangerous with a punch even after getting pummeled.

I agree, in that we need to see the Skelton endeavour first, but if you notice....Williams was getting shallocked by Vitali with nasty hard punches, and he still had the wits about him to throw that hard Right hand.

And it's fast and straight out of a video game.

Come on man, You and I both know Williams aint giving Wladimir no trouble..Skelton beat him, Wladimir would pound him bad probably worse than Vitali did.

Williams has got a lot of heart, NO question...Lets see the Williams/Skelton rematch and If that is any good, then I might consider it.
I agree. my god,,,danny williams is so awful defensively and wlad would have a field day with his accurate punches. wlad doesnt have vits chin,,but is much quicker and more accurate with his punches and he'd probably finish what vitali didnt in the first round. easy early knockout for wlad

That's the trouble, the ease at which Wlad would handle him could leave him lax for a right hand counter. If Williams had better defensive skill and forced Wlad to fight him cautiously for 12 rounds he would, ironically, be LESS of a threat. It's William's vulnerability coupled with his courage and ability to land a big punch when in trouble that makes him a dangerous matchup for Wlad.

That's my exact point.

He's dangerous because he can take a punch and fire back. I never claimed he'd beat Wlad because I don't think he would.

I think he would get knocked out in the mid rounds, but I'd be really nervous watching that because I'm a fan of Klitschko.
