View Full Version : Maine Events giving Floyd a deadline
Who the **** are they to give Floyd a deadline to sign the fight. I think there trying to get out of it for real. They have no authority. They act like there the WBC or something. If Gatti backs out, then he loses his belt. Simple as that. Does he care about that? I dont know but they still have no authority. They are making too big of a deal out of Floyd's legal troubles. Mayweather has been trying to fight him for over a year and Gatti's camp put it off, and now all of a sudden they wait until Floyd has legal problems and thats all they talk about and there like he better hurry up and sign. Part of them want this fight but most of them dont. This fight shouldve happend this past weekend instead of that bull**** we got. Floyd wanted the Gatti fight but Gatti chose to fight Leija so he could get one last easy check before the Floyd fight which could end his career. HBO approved the Leija fight after telling Floyd a few months earlier that he was a unacceptable opponent for him. Next thing Gatti will come up with some fake injury

I have a hard time believing that Arturo Gatti is the type of man to run from a challenge.

I dont think it's him pursay but his management. However I do think Arturo has something to do with it. You can see it in his interviews. After he beat Dorin and Merchant was asking him about Floyd he was like "well, I dont know, my management was saying something about Leija but Im not scared of Floyd and I do want to fight him" You could tell that he didnt want to and now all he talks about is Floyd's legal stuff. What does that have to do with anything. He just doesnt want the fight. Theres no way the Judge would lock Floyd up before June 11

Maybe his management tells him not to be overzealous in anything, not to commit to anything too hardcore. That's never a good thing. Arturo Gatti fights. He doesn't really call out fighters like Ali or other loudmouths do. He just takes them as they come. But he is going to fight Floyd. No matter what. It will happen and I'm lucky that I'll be able to see it.
DiegoFuego 02-02-2005, 01:25 PM I like Gatti, but I definitely think he is trying to get out of his Mayweather showdown any way he can. Mayweather has been calling him out since 2003 (watch the interview after the N'Dou fight). Gatti knows he loses this fight, and he does not want it. Simple as that.

Where did that news come from? Floyd has personally stated that he signed for fight some time ago. Main Event's confirmed that Floyd signed as well.

We both know if Tszyu challenged him, he'd duck Tszyu.
(if he didn't duck him, he'd suffer a ko loss)
dafrza3 02-02-2005, 01:48 PM I completely agree with the initial post.
Mayweather wants the money from this fight but mainevents is obviously protecting thier money fighter.
Truth 02-02-2005, 04:49 PM Main Events Gives Floyd Mayweather Deadline Of End Of This Week
02/02/05- Main Events, the New Jersey promotional company representing Gatti, has set an end-of-week deadline for Mayweather to resolve the legal problem or scuttle the proposed June 11 pay-per-view fight, according to Mayweather's promoter Bob Arum.
Jury selection is scheduled Feb. 25 at Grand Rapids District Court. Talks will cease if Mayweather follows that schedule, according to Carl Moretti, Main Events' vice president of boxing operations. "Our time frame is dictated by what they do," Moretti said. "But if we just knew what they had planned and what their schedule is, if we knew when they were going to enter a plea, or if we knew they weren't going to enter a plea, that would help a lot."
Moretti said negotiations absolutely could not extend beyond next week, given the advance promotion time necessary for a pay-per-view telecast. But Arum said Main Events attorney Pat English set the deadline at this week.
"As far as Main Events is concerned, Mayweather caused this by missing his trial in December," Arum said. "Their position is they'll start looking at other fighters for June 11 if Mayweather isn't available by the end of the week. "My position is different. If the legal situation is cleared up by the beginning of March, we're OK. But I don't represent their fighter and I understand their position."

PRboxingfan 02-02-2005, 04:55 PM Looks like a way to get out of the fight to me. Gatti's people are running scared.
Truth 02-02-2005, 05:00 PM I wonder if this deadline is really legitimate though because sometimes theses deadlines are phony and they extend them.
Arrington 02-02-2005, 05:06 PM I think they would definately postpone the deadline for a big PPV fight.
chingon28 02-02-2005, 05:09 PM i dont think gatti is scared of mayweather. there are other fights out there that gatti can take without having to wait for mayweather. its like he said he is going fill the seats not mayweather.
Truth 02-02-2005, 05:23 PM i dont think gatti is scared of mayweather. there are other fights out there that gatti can take without having to wait for mayweather. its like he said he is going fill the seats not mayweather.
Gatti might be scared because he relizes that he is going up against a better overall boxer.
chingon28 02-02-2005, 05:26 PM true but i dont think that he is scared enough to make up an excuse to not fight mayweather. he can fight someone else and still get paid and then mayweather's legal issues will be over. gatti doesnt come off to me like a guy that is scared of anyone. he might want to stay active and get paid. i would think that
enadeus 02-02-2005, 05:29 PM If this fight doesn't happen do you think we will see Gatti dodge Tzsyu and take on Harris?
IwatchBoxing 02-02-2005, 05:30 PM Gatti, scared? Of what? Getting beat up?
chingon28 02-02-2005, 05:31 PM man i dont know that is one person that probably makes gatti think twice about a fight. if he did fight harris that would be a big fight too so it doesnt really matter. i would like to see gatti zoo. but i dont know if that fight would be made this soon.
borikua 02-02-2005, 05:32 PM fuk that...let's see Gatti-Cotto!
Truth 02-02-2005, 05:35 PM fuk that...let's see Gatti-Cotto!
Nah, how about Cotto-Mayweather?
IwatchBoxing 02-02-2005, 05:36 PM Nah, how about Cotto-Mayweather? :cool:If you want Mayweather in a casket , and it will happen too, this is why Cotto is facing Chop Chop.
Champ-Tszyu
1-Gatti
2-Harris
3-Mayweather
4-Mitchel
5-Cotto
6-Hatton
7-Corley
8-Ndou
9-Leija
10-Urkal
The only clear cut victory for Gatti in this list is the guy he just fought...he is running out of opponents he can beat. I think Corley, Ndou and Urkal all could beat Gatti...they would be close fights but I give them a good shot. Everyone else on this list would kick Gatti's ass.
I love Arturo but he is not a great fighter and never was...he is an exciting fighter, maybe the most exciting I have ever seen. This deadline **** is wierd, does main events want to start the fight promotion tommorrow?
If PBF is out then who is his next opponent? Ill bet you it is no one in the top 6 or 7...Ndou maybe a guy they would look at but then again too me that fight would be a u pickem. Chances are Gatti's next opponent is not even ranked by the ring...it is smart business to be careful with Gatti for as long as you like...he can sell out at will and he can't beat a top guy...why risk it?
My money is on Gatti fighting a couple of fringe contenders in the coming year.
enadeus 02-02-2005, 05:42 PM Tszyu will demolish Gatti.
Truth 02-02-2005, 05:43 PM If you want Mayweather in a casket , and it will happen too, this is why Cotto is facing Chop Chop.
Mayweather in a casket? that might be going to extremes. I think it would be a good fight.
borikua 02-02-2005, 05:47 PM Nah, how about Cotto-Mayweather?
Even better...much better than Floyd-Gatti or Cotto-Gatti.
Mayweather in a casket? that might be going to extremes. I think it would be a good fight.

That Gatti can fill the seats stuff is bull ****. He never filled the seats until the last couple of years and why is that? because he has every fight on the board walk in his home town. If he went out West or down South he wouldnt fill the seats

Oh really I didn't know
psychopath 02-02-2005, 09:01 PM Where did that news come from? Floyd has personally stated that he signed for fight some time ago. Main Event's confirmed that Floyd signed as well.
If that's confirmed then no FUZZ about it . . . it's going to happen.
aztec13 02-02-2005, 10:02 PM Man they must still be in pretty good shape since neither one of them had much of a fight these last 2 week. If Mainevents is so worried about floyd's legal problems why not make the fight for next month since they both probably put on some weight, plus I don't think it takes 5 months to get in shape since you just had a fight last week, then we would know if they are scared of floyd or if they really give a crap about his personal life.
Floydmayweather 02-02-2005, 11:23 PM It will happen and Gatti is going down. Also cotto would not kill Floyd, lets see how he does against chop chop first. He would be taking a huge jump up in competition to fight him.
DiegoFuego 02-02-2005, 11:31 PM Gatti, Harris, Cotto, Tszyu, they're all going down to Mayweather
