GUAYNABO (EFE) - Oscar de la Hoya está bien claro en que este año será su último como boxeador. Lo que no se sabe es si le faltan dos peleas o una.
De la Hoya dijo hoy que si pierde con el nicaragüense Ricardo Mayorga se retirará definitivamente, pero si gana hará una última pelea en septiembre con la que celebrará su despedida del deporte que le ha dado fama y dinero.
De la Hoya (37-4, 29 kos) retará a Mayorga (28-5-1, 23 kos) por el título súper welter (154 libras - 69 kg) del Consejo Mundial de Boxeo el próximo 6 de mayo en Las Vegas.
"Con una derrota me retiro. Por eso es muy importante ganar esta pelea porque quiero llegar victorioso para mi pelea de despedida. Es un riesgo muy grande por la presión que me he puesto yo mismo porque quiero hacer esa pelea de despedida", dijo hoy De la Hoya previo a un entrenamiento.
El llamado "Golden Boy" aseguró que tiene mucha motivación para este combate, aunque admitió que hace poco estuvo preocupado.
"Estuve preocupado hace un mes porque mi cuerpo no se sentía con el ritmo, mi rapidez no estaba como antes, pero hace como dos semanas como que mi mente y mi cuerpo hicieron click y ahora no tengo preocupaciones. Estoy en óptimas condiciones, rápido y fuerte", afirmó.
De igual manera, el ex campeón mundial admitió que la preparación para este combate ha tenido que ser distinto a otras anteriores. De hecho, es la primera vez que se acuartela en el gimnasio Wilfredo Gómez, de esta ciudad, y su entrenamiento ha sido desarrollado en Puerto Rico.
"Esta preparación ha sido distinta a las otras. Lo he tomado bien en serio porque reconozco que Mayorga es un rival que aguanta mucho, pega fuerte y tiene un estilo único. No se puede decir que es un técnico o pegador. El viene a pelear con lo que sea. Pero estoy preparado para todo porque será un combate fuerte", indicó.
"Lo nuevo que hemos hecho es que comenzamos a entrenar cerca de mes y medio antes de lo usual. Estoy acostumbrado a entrenar siete semanas antes de las peleas y esta vez ya voy para tres meses. Vamos a terminar en 130 asaltos de preparación", explicó.
"Y sobre la condición física estamos corriendo más millas, boxeando más asaltos. Estoy fortaleciendo más mi cuerpo para poder aguantar los golpes, especialmente en el área abdominal".
Aseguró que entrenar en el gimnasio Wilfredo Gómez ha sido beneficioso para él ya que el calor isleño lo ha ayudado a hacer el peso fácilmente y recibe mucha motivación de parte de los demás púgiles que entrenan aquí.
Finalmente, dijo que si Mayorga pretende derrotarlo tendrá que estar en la mejor condición física de su vida.
"Ojalá que esté bien preparado y venga en buena condición porque va a ser una pelea fuerte. Si cree que me va a noquear en el sexto asalto, está equivocado. Eso no va a suceder. Estoy en buena condición física. Llevo ya tres meses de preparación, me siento muy bien y no veo ninguna manera en que me pueda noquear", manifestó.
"Mi plan de pelea es pelearle al frente pero con movimientos de cintura. Tengo que ser inteligente y hacerlo fallar mucho para cansarlo. El ataque al cuerpo y mi jab serán muy importantes para mi victoria", concluyó el ex campeón.
