View Full Version : Danny Williams: Tyson or Harrison?
Truth 02-01-2005, 10:02 PM Danny Williams wants rematch with Mike Tyson
Danny Williams still has sleepless nights over his battering by Vitali Klitschko in December.
The 31-year-old Londoner was floored by his Ukrainian conqueror in the first, third, seventh and eighth rounds of the WBC world heavyweight title bout.
Williams has vowed to fight on and earn another world-title shot but first he wants a rematch with Mike Tyson, who he knocked out in July.
He said: “My right shoulder is healing but the main problem is stress. I was up until 4am last night. I wanted that title so badly. I had to go down to the gym and punch the bag to get my mind off it.”
Yet Williams, who still has not been paid for the Klitschko fight, is confident he will get another chance.
He said: “It’s not all over. The other world champions Chris Byrd, Lamon Brewster and John Ruiz are not in the same class as Klitschko.

Williams calls for Harrison fight
Williams vows to make return
British heavyweight Danny Williams has called out rival Audley Harrison as he bids to get his career back on track.
Williams, who lost his WBC shot to Vitali Klitschko in December, has ruled out other domestic options, preferring a European tilt or a return to America.
"I'm hoping to box next for a European title or against a named American," Williams told BBC Radio Five Live.
"But I'd lick my lips if Harrison wanted to fight me because I've been calling him out for ages."
"I think that would be a massive fight, but he just keeps turning me down."
Harrison has made it clear that he sees his path to the top involving a series of fights in the USA against American opponents.-bbc

I thought that he was going to retire after the Klitschko fight win or lose.
Well, you see what a little (hurt) pride can do to a man. ;)
Marjoh 02-02-2005, 05:09 AM He had his chance of the big fight. I don't think we'll be seeing him any time soon, or at all, in a big main event fight. And I don't think it's pride. He tasted glory by beating Tyson and getting a shot at the WBC belt against Klicthko, and he wants it back. And the fact that he wants a pieace of Tyson, again, even though Williams beat him bad (who goes out there telling everyone he wants a pieace of someone they already beat), shouldn't tell us otherwise. Because he knows Tyson is the only big name fighter he has a chance of getting a fight with.

i was about to say that...
Lol999 02-02-2005, 05:24 AM I'd love him to kick harrissons arse though. A nice 5 round kicking with a hell of a knockout to finish.
Lol :D
Truth 02-02-2005, 08:09 AM I would favor Tyson and Harrison over Danny Williams.
Toller 02-02-2005, 08:28 AM Harrison would be a strong favourite in my book when he's had a couple of fights after the layoff, he's just too big and skilled for Williams
Arrington 02-02-2005, 10:31 AM I'd love to see Harrison against a name opponent.
!! Anorak 02-02-2005, 03:28 PM First of all, I've NEVER read anywhere that Danny Williams said he was going to retire straight aftere the Klitschko bout. At some point after, yes, but not win and drop out straight away. It's one of those Chinese Whispers that's got repeated so many times on this forum that it's now being bandied about as fact.
As for the opponents... neither. Tyson is a high-risk fight, and how can he fight someone untested. Is Audley a good boxer? Or a lousy one? I don't know, and I've seen over a dozen of his matches. I still don't know if he's got a chin as he's not fought anybody. He's below-domestic level as he hasn't even gone for the British title yet. (And no one really counts his WBF title, do they?) Danny needs to look beyond both and get in with the others in the division... maybe he'd enjoy a shot at Vitali's glass-chinned brother?
paulmmv 02-02-2005, 03:34 PM you cant really blame williams for feeling like that but he should really just take the win he was over tyson and leave it as is and go back to fighting people around his rank cause if he fights tyson again tyson is going to floor him within 3 rounds unless tyson hurts himself again
!! Anorak 02-02-2005, 03:45 PM That's the thing, Danny has always fought at domestic level but showed promise. His one European level bout (against Samil Sam, which is always brought up) saw him reputedly ill and mentally frozen.
At world class? Well, can he mix it with Brewster, Rahman, etc.? Logic would suggest yes (he disposed of common foe Meehan in less than a minute, in the downloads forum right now) but there's no way of knowing. Going in against a man who's so much better than his peers proved nothing.
Casey 02-02-2005, 05:12 PM I think if he faces Tyson he get destroyed. But Audley Harrison is just fighting all the nobodys. He had the oppotunity to fight British champ Matt Skelton and he ran to America
!! Anorak 02-02-2005, 05:17 PM I think the BBC (who showed all Audley's fights) needed to make clear that Audley was just learning his craft. Instead would tune in for a headline bill which was a six-rounder against the man from the local pub. But that's not Audley's fault, I'm sure all of Muhammad Ali's first 20 pre-Sonny opponents weren't all that great, either. Though Audley IS taking his time.
According to Audley it was a contract situation, re: Skelton. It'd be risky for Audley, anyway. That talentless clubbing bear might beat him, but not through skill.
why the hell does danny want to beat up the old man
Tyson beat williams up pretty bad till he did his knee.
i reckon it contributed to his loss against vitali, he had no legs at all or balance.
if tyson regains any type of fitness he destroys williams

i hope danny williams shuts up !! he had the chance of a life time 2 fight for the heavyweight tittle and came in "fat" (over 19 stone!! ). Now he wants a rematch with Mike Tyson ( a fighter he already beat). He blew his chance. What has Tyson got to gain by fighting williams?
jack_the_rippuh 03-06-2005, 04:23 PM Danny Williams is a bum who is just after money right now. He showed the world how full of **** he is by sticking around after claiming he'd retire after "winning the world title"...
I want to see Williams fight James "Lights Out" Toney
"He destroyed my dream of fighting Mike Tyson.."
-Robo-Cop..

instead of williams fighting skelton, i'll like to see him with samuel peter or even in with lamon brewster(wbo champ who is no gr8 shakes).A win over skelton (not guaranteed) will do nothing for williams reputation.

nope !! tyson can not do more than 3/4 rounds at this stage of his career. if the opponent is there in the 4th / 5th round, tyson gets beat. williams won cos tyson was "out of breath and out of ideas", nothing to do with his knee.
Rumbler 03-06-2005, 04:33 PM why the hell does danny want to beat up the old man
cos he'll get very well paid 4 beating a shot tyson !!
Rumbler 03-06-2005, 04:42 PM tyson lost cos williams kept hitting him non stop and not cos of tyson's knee!! tyson has no survival instint when hurt. he just stand there (ala the holyfield fight) taking punches.tyson has nothing to gain by fighting williams again (who might beat him a second time !!)tyson might as well fight "softer" opponents and make as much money as he can at this stage of his career. afterall, boxing ia a business.

THAT MADE ME LAFF SO MUCH!!! GOOD KARMA FOR YOU, PLEASE DO THE SAME FOR ME!! :):)
TheFairPole 10-18-2005, 09:48 AM I would love to see Williams fight Harrison! This would be an entertaining fight!

He's a better boxer than Peter (who isn't?) but I think he'd lose both those match-ups. I still say he could take 80-90% of the current heavyweight division, no joke.
