View Full Version : Biggest liars after a loss
Bombardier 02-01-2005, 11:33 AM It's nice when guys like Leija admit that they were simply beaten by a better fighter when they lose, but I understand if a guy doesn't want to lose any more face after a pounding and makes a flimsy excuse or two in the post-fight interview. But I am sick and tired of these guys who continue to throw out stupid excuses months AFTER the loss. Now Sharma Mitchell is telling us that he lost of Kostya because he was so weak from losing weight? (got this from *********) Give me a break. He claims that Kostya's punches didn't really hurt him, but that he was just a bit weak in the knees. Right...
Sharmba's always been one of the worst for this. Syd Vanderpool's another guy I can't stand after a loss. He'll tell you over and over that he beat the guy until he's reminded that he actually lost...then he goes silent.
Can anyone name any other notorious excuse-makers?
Kornhusker 02-01-2005, 11:44 AM What's your excuse tonight Roy?
elveiel 02-01-2005, 11:46 AM Sharmba Mitchell after the first Tszyu fight!!
Mitchell was caught on TV asking his corner to stop the fight and said after the fight he was forced to quit by the corner/doctor :D
The1God 02-01-2005, 01:45 PM Everybody has an excuse when they lose. There is an excuse. A loss is a loss with or without an excuse. Tyson's knee blew out on him, but he isn't *****ing about it. He excepts his loss. Trinidad didn't make any excuses after his loss to BHop. DLH on the other hand, the only time he excepted his loss was after BHop, then they are partners..... You make the call here.
The only thing you can say after a loss, is the best man won.

Exactly, for all the people who hate Jim Grey this was certainly a reason to like him...
Sharmba flat out lied to his face and Jim called him on it, not many guys would have done that...I love watching Sharmba being put on the spot!
Mr. Ryan 02-01-2005, 02:32 PM I thought Pernell Whitaker claiming he beat Trinidad was humorous. Erik Morales and Marco Antonio Barrera are famous for saying "They had a bad night."
jabsRstiff 02-01-2005, 03:24 PM Fighters need to lie to THEMSELVES.
Boxing's all about confidence....if you convince yourself that you lost because "you weren't yourself", it will motivate you to go on.

Pacquiao is famous for wearing the wrong socks.

that one is the best, mitchell is like, "i wanted to continue but my corner wouldnt let me" then they play the footage and the doctor is like "do you want to fight" all he kept saying was that he cant feel his leg and cant move, he wouldnt acknowledge her in the hopes that she would stop the fight. which is what happened. very weak
Fighters need to lie to THEMSELVES.

Exactly...when a fight is somewhat close there is not a fighter on the planet that will say..."yeah he beat me." Sure 99% of the people scoring the fight may have had it two rounds for one guy but the other guy most likely believes that he was the victor...he has to at the very least convince himself of that.
I remember boxing six hard rounds one particular day and afterward I thought it was a no brainer that I had won the fight...to my surprise the few people that watched the fight thought the other guy got me by a bit...I was arguing/pleading my case but they saw what they saw. I still think I won this particular fight just like real prizefighters argue...
When you go to war it is damn tough to admit defeat if the fight is anywhere near close, fighters say they won not because they are lying about what happened...because they really truly think that they got the better of the opponent, remember there is no real scoreboard.
elveiel 02-01-2005, 05:29 PM that one is the best, mitchell is like, "i wanted to continue but my corner wouldnt let me" then they play the footage and the doctor is like "do you want to fight" all he kept saying was that he cant feel his leg and cant move, he wouldnt acknowledge her in the hopes that she would stop the fight. which is what happened. very weak
I remember his corner saying "what do you wanna do champ?" but i like to remember it as "what do you wanna do CHUMP?" LOL
jayschre 02-01-2005, 05:40 PM I still like Roy Jones Jr. after he got waxed by Tarver saying that bull**** about how "it's easy for guys to get up for a fight wit Roy Jones, but it's hard for Roy Jones to get up for a fight with guys." No **** Roy, well at least he was half right, HE didn't get up!!!!!
Slipx 02-01-2005, 06:20 PM Oscar DLH after Sturm gave him a beating, and oscar got the win. When merchant got to him after the fight, merchant worded his question something like..
"Some of the crowd feels the decision was wrong, how do you feel about the decision?"
oscar went on to talk about the good things he did in the fight, as if he actually won it. didn't say I think he beat me or anything like that. I lost respect for Oscar after that bout.
bonafuwa 02-01-2005, 08:31 PM I don't consider saying you just had a bad night is a bad excuse, especially when you really did (like Barrera vs. Pacquiao). Saying **** like hand wraps were illegal, I won't make excuses but I had the flu n **** is definitely making bad excuses.
Tyson NEVER makes excuses though. Even after the Williams fight, he never mentioned the knee. His camp sure did though.

damn u beat em to it but ya DLH and hopkisn r both horrible liars after sturm beat up oscar i love how hopkins says that DLH pulled through in the alst 3 rounds when IMO thast when sturm beat up oscar the worse dlh and hopkins knew that he lost

yeah I got a good laugh that night. +k :)
AintGottaClue 02-01-2005, 08:41 PM back at ya slip
The Golden Boy 02-01-2005, 09:44 PM i agree with bonafuwa thats saying you had a bad night isn't an excuse. The fighter is acknowledging they didn't fight well and the other person won. Although when you only have three bad nights in your career and they are all against the same fighter (Morales - Barrera), then it starts to get a bit suspect.
On the other hand you can only fight as well as your opponent lets you.
jack_the_rippuh 02-01-2005, 09:53 PM What kind of a boxer would say they loss?

I lost Respect for DLH when he fought,
J.C.C and old man who was way past his prime,
altought i feel pitty for when he got the Triniday and the MosleyII fights stolen
Solo322 02-01-2005, 11:56 PM I like Tyson, he's got so many fans that'll make excuses for him that he doesn't even need to say them.
miron_lang 02-02-2005, 12:00 AM Pacquiao is famous for wearing the wrong socks.
Hey boy he didnt lose. he won it actually. but it was declared a draw because of stupid clemens. THE Thread is about fighters who lost :)

Marco Antonio Barrera : It wasnt me in there
2 years later : Its a bad night, i have to talk to my promoter if im going to fight him again :D
QueenCity 02-02-2005, 12:09 AM After both losses to Winky Wright I remember Shane Mosley saying he thought he won the fight, I quess some guys just don't can't admit they got their ass kicked.
dafrza3 02-02-2005, 12:59 PM I didnt like the fact tarver made excuses after the johnson fight. Its like wtf? didnt you just have a fight with jones where leading up to the fight you bashed his excuses and even said the infamous quote to the ref? but then after your loss to johnson you make up excuses about hurting your hand?
Ive spoken to Tarver before and like him but that to me was very bytch like.
Tha Greatest 02-02-2005, 01:15 PM After both losses to Winky Wright I remember Shane Mosley saying he thought he won the fight, I quess some guys just don't can't admit they got their ass kicked.
ya good one man
I remember mosley jumping with his hands in tha air cuz he thought he won, he wasnt even close to winning, how retarded is he, when people say they won the fight when they get beat it pisses me off, Winky was playing around with him all night, not even close to a win.
bigdlb12 02-02-2005, 01:18 PM how bout wald klistko or however the hell you spell it
dafrza3 02-02-2005, 01:51 PM hahah yeah WLAD and his conspiracy theories as to why he was KTFO.
The1God 02-02-2005, 02:06 PM WK had energy draining vasoline on his legs. I thought he said that he had an anal probe from aliens the night before when he fought Sanders. Both those excuses are legit. Have you ever tried to fight after an anal probe? (Don't answer that, please)
