How is this possible while you are in Iraq?

Where do you get your food? Where do you live? How much do you have to work and how much free time is there?

Dude. I'm a Sergeant that is in charge of people so my soldiers do most of the work. I'm a Water Treatment Specialist so I don't go "outside the wire" too much. I did the first time but now things are different this year. The food in the dining facility sucks but I try to eat the healthy stuff. The blistering heat is going to help me the most. I can't tell you exactly where in IQ but it's remote. Suprisingly, they have a good enough gym and I order all my boxing equipment. I also run on an air strip.

That's so true. It was easy getting fit but now It's hard to get rid of the muscle weight for me. I think the over 100 degree weather will help me though. More cardio less lifting too.

Actually my problem is eating it all! lol.

I am a fat bastard and can easily drink a 12 pack of coors lite and eat a jumbo bag of cheetos in less than an hour.

But when I start eating healthy my body says "**** that ****!" And I feel like I am going to puke after every single meal.

Sometimes I do!

Just cutting the beer out though, I think I will loose 5 pounds this week probably.

Sure. I'm in. Frankly, I'm happy with my weight -- 180 -- I want to get my bodyfat down to 10-11% but I don't think that's going to happen in six weeks. Right now I'm at 20% according to my electric scale doohickey. It's probably lower if I use a skin fold measurement.

http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i311/Fraid_E_cat/79fc28b2.jpg

Daily Routine:

Morning, 5 days per week: 1 hour of stairs

Day: Maintenance work, walk 5-6 miles per day meausred with a pedometer (maintenance lead for 250K square foot manufacturing plant) carrying 10-15 lbs of tools (belt, etc.) Occasional heavy work -- lifting & carrying over 50 lbs, bending, squatting, climbing -- less than an hour of this per day total, though.

Run at lunch 45-50 minutes with some calisthenics, 3 times per week.

Evenings: boxing 3-4 times per week for 90-120 minutes. Conditioning, drills, light- to medium-contact sparring.

Diet is mostly lean meats and raw fruits & vegetables during the day. No actual lunch. Breakfast is fruit. Dinner is a Lean Cuisine. Biggest vice is my morning latte, 300 calories. Protein shake before I go to bed: whey and nonfat milk.

I wish I had some pics from three months ago, before I started boxing. Zero definition in my abs. I weighed about the same but I was 26% BF. Now I just want to drop this kidney fat and add some mass to my arms and lower quads (knee injuries when I was younger -- the vastus medialis is my friend.) I want to get to 10% BF, **** the weight. I'm a third of the way there.

1 week down.

It was a pretty bad week for me.

My Girl Friend dumped me.

Then I got the Flu.

I couldn't workout like I wanted to, but I didn't eat anything either.

Started the week at 194 pounds. Now I am at 189. It was bad weight loss though, and I think I actually look a little worse.

Hopefully I can work out more this week. I feel pretty good, and am pretty much over being sick.

I skipped the last few days 'cuz my allergies laid me out. But I kept eating lean, didn't sulk, didn't backslide, even jumped rope a little bit on my deck and kept hitting the chin-up bar. 178 this morning. FWIW, I'm on the tightest notch on my size 34 belts -- gotta go buy new belts, one size smaller, come payday! $30 apiece but it's a good pain. New pants, soon, too.

Sorry to hear about your GF, Joe. Keep at the gym. Play through the pain.

What's your tat say?

joeboxer
04-26-2006, 08:48 PM
I am on a new diet.

I call it the 50% protein shake diet. Every other meal is protein shake.

I start each day with oatmeal.

Then shake with water.

Then work out.

Then lunch, eggs and spinach or subway.

Then shake with bannana and milk, creatine, glutamine.

Then dinner, which is Tunafish pretty much, or whole wheat waffle sandwich stuck together with PB, or chicken breat.

Then before bed a muscle milk protein shake > Damn Good!!!

-------------------------------------------------------------------

I also bumped the green tea extract to 3x a day with each meal.

I bumped up the fish oil to 6 caps per day.

I added Vitamin C, as an additional fat burner.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Considering adding Sesamin, for fat loss and acne control.

Also considering vitamin B5 for acne.

Both are fairly expensive so I don't know yet.

God is with me

I've been on the cycle every day for about 30mins except on the day i do lifting I do 10mins of cycle.

I'll start running next week to the gym on the days i weight lift.

I'm not going to weigh myself till the end. i really want to but i want to see a big difference, which i hope i get.

What? So you're -28,000 calories in 3 days? Some of that HAS to be water weight. You need about 1200 per day for heathy body functioning. That's just rediculous. I mean, look at it this way...

If you ate absolutely nothing at all, lived life normally, and played 6-8 hours of hard basketball each day, you STILL wouldn't be -28,000...

Hmn.

Yo, guys I fell off the wagon a little bit on Thursday. The whole getting dumped thing, kind of caught up with me.

I ended up drinking a bottle of champagne, 5 shots of vodka, a beer, and a long Island with about 6 shots.

I spent all day throwing up. Missed my workout, and only drank Gatorade.

It sets me back a little, but tomoroww I will be out running again. It's getting sunny here, so I might try and get a little tan too.

fraidycat
05-29-2006, 04:55 PM
Alright. Not much difference.

EDIT: Okay, some difference. Now that I'm looking at these again, I notice a considerable change in the placement of my shoulders (posture), overall shape, and overall upper-body mass. I look taller, and leaner, though my chest is actually almost 2" bigger and my waist is 2" smaller. I've been working to stretch my pecs and rotate my shoulders back and get out of my "caveman" bodybuilder posture, into the upright, shoulders-back, take-on-the-world posture that boxers seem to develop. I would imagine that the visual discrepancy in the pics (looking smaller in the chest when I'm in fact bigger through the chest) stems from my pecs being smaller (more limber, hence, flatter) and my back being narrower through the lats, but thicker (front to back.)

I'm down about 5 lbs (weighed in at 176 this morning.) My Tanita scale says I'm at 15% BF -- I was at 20.5% according to it six weeks ago.

When the judging is over, I will be pulling these pics. I hate having partially-nude pics of me on the Internet. . . what would my mother say?

Impressive, but not impossible...

If he ate enough and worked hard on the bags, he can get that.

Please note: not flexing, not sucking in my gut, and not post-workout.

I wish I had before and after pics from December - Feb '06 -- I lost 14 lbs in a month doing "boxing fitness." I've been getting a lot stronger this summer doing compound lifts; I've lost 4 inches from my waist since February and some of my briefs don't fit anymore b/c my upper thighs are getting pretty built. My chest is 44" and my waist is 32" -- I just need to lose the last bit of handles and chisel down the abs, but the frame is there, IMO.

I'm definitely more fit, and my "shape" is returning to a wedge, which I'm really digging. I'm going to try to make 165 lbs. walking-around-weight by October 7th, really putting the heat on this month.

my story isn't unlike that of Jared's subway success story.

i really wish I had a before pic of myself. ill post a current pic of myself soon. 4 months ago when i walked into my boxing gym, i weighed 320 pounds. now I'm at 245, I could make 240 if I killed myself in the sauna, maybe even lower than that.

Been workin real hard on my abdominals, goin back for more when we do medicine ball resistance training, doin more situps and leg raises, etc.

my abs are starting to poke through...it's really a good feeling. It's unbelieveable how much quicker my hands are without all that added weight. when im fresh and have lots of energy and feel good, my hands feel so goddamn quick these days. I know i've lost a little power though, but ive been able to maintain much of my old strength just from doing burpees, clap pushups, and pushups, explosively.

This post was a great idea to inspire ppl to wanna work out n what not (well ppl like me thats lazy about it) Im in pretty good shape, I would guess thats naturally because my diet SUCKS, I eat Nothing for breakfast, Nothing for lunch, and then before boxing practice ill grab a fish sandwhich from mcdonalds, and then train, come home... and usually that be it for the whole day, or i might come out the around 2am and go to mcdonalds again for a strawberry sundae and a burger off the dollar menue.... lol I am 5'10 156

I dont gain, or lose weight... i stay at the size

I will think up a diet or w.e for this contest and start tomorrow since tomorrow is monday, so ill be posting tomorrow a pic and a plan for the week

SquareCircle

you should stop that diet immediately. im not a nutritionist, but wake up and eat something wheat or fruit etc. you'd have hella more energy at boxing if you ate breakfast & some pasta 2 hrs and 15 min before boxing practice starts...i top mine with italian dressing

Here's a comparison from my first week of "boxing fitness" in January -- 195 lbs, probably (I was 198 at Christmas) -- and then last month, at what's probably going to be my walking-around weight of 173-175. I'm already back up to 170; I was 163 last weekend after a week of chicken soup, Gatorade, and toast trying to stay at Middleweight.

Im already in good shape now i guess (120 pounds, and my height is about 5'8) so now basically trying to get as low fat percentage as possible and gain a **** load more muscle.

What I used to hate about working traps is the headache the couple days after. Same with the neck. I can handle muscle soreness, but walking around for two days with a screaming headache just sucks. You can hit the traps with a full clean or power clean, a hang clean, or shrugs. They should get plenty of work just through boxing, though.

I need to cut down to about 150LBS...I'm at 181 right now...down 13LBS from about a month ago. Its probably mostly water weight...but what I've done is change my eating habits...and finally get back into the gym, to do some weight training, but mostly cardio.

A typical day for me:

Breakfast:

8:00am

Oatmeal ( 2 Packs of raw sugar )
2 slices of whole wheat bread ( Lite Margarine )
1 Hard Boiled Egg ( Most of the time, I'll only have the white )

Mid Morning Snack:

10:00am

An apple or orange
Pineapple slices, pear slices...

Really any kind of fruit, just for the extra energy boost, to hold me down until lunch...

Lunch:

12:30 - 1:00pm

Tuna Sandwich on whole wheat w/ a slice of cheese in it

Or

A salad w/ dressing

Afternoon Snack:

4:00pm

Yogurt, or a fruit cup or some fruits

Dinner

6:00pm - 8:00pm ( it varies on the time...but I try to keep it as early as possible )

I'll try to have something like a Subway Turkey Breast sandwich...or a Lean Pocket, or a Lean Cuisine meal...

Now this is not exactly the same everyday...during the day while I'm at work, its a lot easier, because I have easy access to all of these good foods. Its when I get home that I have a tougher time finding healthy choices.

As far as excersizing...I started hitting the gym again a few weeks back, so just trying to get into the groove of things. I tried a boxing class, and it kicked my ass, and was sore for about 4 days after. So I figured I'd at least try and get into a little better condition before trying to take it on head first.

So, I've been pretty consistant for the most part, at getting into the gym for at least 4-5 days a week, for about an hour and a half, two hours at the most.

I'll usually start like this:

Stationary Bike - 10 minute warmup, low speed, low intensity...

Get up and stretch...

Hop back onto the bike, and go for about 30 minutes...going 2 minutes at a moderate speed, then kicking up a few levels for a minute, than going back down to moderate speed for two minutes. And repeat this cycle.

Haven't really gotten very deep into the weight training, so I'll usually do about 5 sets of light weight at about 12-15 reps per set.

So far, I've been feeling a lot more energized, but did eat a ****load of buffalo wings last night from Round Table. :nonono: And feel like **** today, from all the grease and what not.

So far, have went down from 194 to 181, since about the second week of January.

well as far as weight loss goes wuite simply i went on a pretty strict low carb diet.... while keeping very strict to working out and timing of meals etc...

for two weeks i would eat much more than the following...

Breakfast:
3 eggs omelettle w/ sausage and 2 strips of bacon

lunch:

caesar salad (always eat romaine lettuce) add chicken if you want

dinner:

steak with suteed mushrooms
grilled chikecn breasts
assorted wrap sandwich made with low/carb tortillas containg 11g Fiber (mission brand)

after two weeks you can relaz a little bit and allow more carbs, but to truly be effective you need to keep them below 25g a day (not including fiber or sugar alcohol) for at least two weeks

snack on pork rinds, if you dont like them, even better, theyll kill your appetite

------------------------------------------------------------------

as far as working out i lift weights 5 days a week on this schedule.

sunday- chest and back
monday- triceps and shoulders
tuesday- biceps and abs
wednesday- off
thursday- legs, all muscles..
friday- off
saturday- all around workout knocking out machine excercises i didnt get around to throughout the week... ab and calf work in between sets

--------------------------------------------------------------------

as far as supps go, get a good low carb protein powder to take during the first two weeks of your diet (optimum nutrition has best flavor)

also take glutamine for recovery, and a creatine pill if you want....

take care not to take any powder containing sugar or dextrose as many will have 30 g in one serving which will ruin your diet right off the bat..

good multi-vitamin (i take max-4-men)
----------------------------------------------------------------------

everyday i play basketball for a half hour before i work out, this gives me some good exercise without tedious boring ass jogging....

i then jump rope for 10 min (2 min X 5) and then i go and lift.

depending on how hard i work out if im feeling up to it i will hit the heavybag for 5-10 minutes after im done....

most likely youd want to invest in hydroxycut or something similar cause without any sugar in your diet you will need a decent dose of caffeine to keep your energy up long enough for a good workout

any other questions let me know....

i took a before pic and put it on my old cpu, which has a virus now...

im gonna try and get the hard drive backed up and hopefully i can recover that photo

obviously my now picture is pointless without the before...

one of my diet secrets is that i eat a lot of sauerkraut.... it has almost no calories or sugar and fills you up..... drain it and rinse it if you want a mild taste... but eat it with steak or sausage and you wont miss the potatoes as much... ill pan fry 2 or 3 italian sausages and then add 2 or 3 coups of saurkraut and let it cook together for 10 minutes...

How does that sauna suit work...?

You don't wanna run with those plastic like sauna suits, the pants I mean, they'll burn you up between your thigs after a few miles, if possible, just use the jacket and albolene.

I am at 165 again but the good news is that I gained muscle this time around.
My abs are defined although not yet perfect definition, they are very close to it.
The only thing that I changed was to almost completely stopped eating red meat and white breat products and switch to whole grain products. the protein to carbs ration is about 40/60 and I run 3 times a week now and box 3 times a week as well.

I now weigh 150 even, and Im in alot better shape than I was then condition wise, knocked off some of that mcdonalds fat I had on me... now Im skinnier lol... but now I am going to focus on puttin on muscle and toning

brooklyn, you're starting to look bigger than zab, now. you're never goinjg to make 135 ever agin, probbaly not welter either.

it's funny what age does to the body. i used to walk around at junior middle for years, all through my 20's, then i hit 30 and now i walk around at 180. the weirdest thing is, now i look almost the same at 172 as i did at 155 or 158 was up to 188 for a month or two after Xmas, **** i was fat, now am back down to 181 1/2, hopefully this summer with running outside instead of on a machine i can get down to 177 or 176 - that's when i start looking like a fighter.

Again, when I boxed at 132, I starved myself which led too a bunch of injuries and temprarely kidney problems. I will never get to lightweight limit, but I dont plan either. At this point, I destroyed myself enough, right now all my physical activities go to improve my health.

that must take quite a bit of discipline, i recall you saying you were in the military possibly?? i forget.... the only reason ive been able to maintain my diet is that ive found enough things i can eat to keep from eating the same things constantly

ive been on a diet for awhile now, a couple things you may/moy not be able to eat that would be beneficial

lentiles, black beans, white beans... very high fiber, no fat, no sugar

buffalo meat- much healthier than beef, less fat than chicken yet more protein than either

i also buy specialized low carb breads.. mostly tortillas.. many are also very high in fiber in addition to knocking out most of the bad carbs

sauerkraut- fills me up without calories, fat, very low sugar content

good luck!

buffalo meat is the best red meat i've ever had. lentils and black beans are really good too. the big thing, at least for me, is to stay away from the sugar, i can cut weight easy if i don't eat much sugar... man, sugar is so bad for u, i read something today that said sugar weakens the immune system, causes cardiovascular disease, and other problems. after reading that i think i can stay away from the donuts for a while

I've always done the low carb, higher protein thing.. but its important to note that I mean the starchy carbs... like no corn, all glutens and then rice and oats, and no refined sugars... that allows me to lose unnecessary blubber if you know what I mean. Then I load up on veggies with some fruit mixed in as my "cheating". NO dairy either. If you want milk I recommend an unsweetend almond milk. Great stuff. Then I get a lot of protein from beans and greener veggies because too much meat will make anyone bloated. Our body just doesn't digest it as fast. Try raw fish like sashimi if you want protein that is easier to digest... egg whites are a decent for too, but also in moderation...

Here it is, just started boxing last week.

alright. time to get in shape while i recover from this hand surgery.

the idea is to lose fat without losing muscle and get down to 225 lbs. Currently I weigh 276 lbs. so this will not be an easy task. but I am the weight loss king. It will come off gradually, naturally, and it will be tough, but I will retain all my natural power at 225 while producing faster crisper combination punching. I am not worried about building muscle or getting stronger..

I also run on an air strip.
hey we work with the armys QRF all the time, much respect. and people would be suprised how boring it can be on your off time i was at the gym all the time.

good luck man, the first twenty should come off no problem, i dropped from 235 to 185 over the course of 7 months.... it wasnt easy but it was worth the effort.

eating a lot of oatmeal, beans, lentils, soy products.. i even phased out beef in favor of buffalo meat which is extremely lean with high protein, its more expensive but i wait until the sell by date is coming up and i buy every single steak when they mark them down, freeze em, then eat em later.

Damn I wish I would have seen this post earlier, I would have tried it with you guys. I went on a diet about a month and a half ago. I am 6'0" and weighed in at 250 lbs. I know that sounds really fat but my body is built in a real crazy way. I have a muscular build with a wide backs and shoulders. If you were to see me you would not believe I weighed that much, my bones must be made of lead or something. No one has ever guessed my weight, they usually say I weigh about 185-190, thats what I look like I weigh.

I started boxing back again and eating right and have lost 30lbs in a month. My stomach is almost gone and I'm getting alot of definition quick.

My diet is:

7am-breakfast: Oatmeal & glass of fresh squeezed OJ ( not from concentrate)
10am- snack #1: fat free yogurt or fat free pudding
12 noon- lunch: Salad, no cheese, light dressing with veggies on salad
3pm- meal#3: Boca burger no bread and 1/2 cup of black beans
5pm- snack #2: fat free yogurt or fat free pudding
7pm- dinner: 4oz of fish or chicken baked with 1/2 cup of steamed veggies
7:30-9pm Boxing gym workout, 6 rounds of circuit training (rope, ring steps, jump rope)
Then 6-9 rounds on heavy bag
Finally, 30 minute speed bag workout
9pm- snack #3: whey protein shake before bed

I'n not a nutritionist but I would appreciate any tips on my diet.

my routine is basically cut around rowing at school. from the start of term 4 to the end of term 1 is full on training, 3 1.5 hour gym sessions (variety of wiehgts, core work and an ergo usually 20 - 30 mins) then rowing 3 time after school for 2 hours each time, and 4 hours on sat which is ually split between running and rowing.

inbetween seasons i do some running usually 6 - 8 ks (bout 4-5 miles i think) acoupla time a week and 3 gym seesion a week but with just core and weights and the odd erg.

i started boxing only a coupla months ago, but ive spent quite a bit of time on the bag at home, so im mainly working on fighting agianst people.im doing it 2 times a week atm but will cut back to one when rowing kicks in after the holidays.

ill get a pic up hopefullt tommorw night and will update.
ps sorry for the crappy writing its late and im tired as....

holy **** mate that is a massive workout how do you even have time for boxing? it seems to me if you include much more workout's that your body wont have sufficient time to repair the damage you do each training session. But that looks like a pretty intense workload, especially the running on top, how long does that normally take you?

RedArmySurplus
09-14-2007, 07:40 AM
well i only run when im not in the rowing season which is Term 4 to Term 2 so ive got time, 8 km take me about 37mins I think....I'm not very good at running but i like doing it. and as for the timing between sessions, it seems to be ok, I mean it's definatley working, I am way fitter than I was before I started rowing. And yeah i suppose it sounds like alot but once you get into it, its much easier, and of course you feel great:)

Anyone else here used ergos as part of a routine?

As it is Christmas and the time to be Jolly I am currently at a weight of 195 pounds.
At 5ft 9" I may well be classed as Obese but as you can see from my picture I am solid.
I have no real fat on myself but around my midriff.
Due to my love for Beer mostly.
I am also 32 yrs old so It is quite hard to lose weight at my age.
I am aiming to get back down to my fittest weight of around 160-168 by Summer.
I will leave these pix as my inspiration and call back in June.
If anyone can advise me on the Use of Protein shakes I would be appreciative.
How to incorporate them into a fitness regimen and also which ones are of any real use.
Cheers.

I use Optimum 100% Whey Protein...

It won best protein and best overall supplement for 2007. got it quite cheap off ebay aswell. I have one in the morning, one around dinner time then one straight after i've been the gym.

what did you do to lose all the weight mate??

i wanna lose weight then put on a little bulk i reckon when i get to my fighting weight i would have a very similar build to kelly pavlik.

i lost all the weight by

1. cleaning up my diet making all my own meals so i knew my calorie intake

2. ensuring a drank 4 litres of water a day

3. 3 cups of green/white tea a day

4. i now run 5-6k 3 days a week.

5. boxing twice a week

6. football (soccer) twice a week.

7. full body weight training 2-3 times a week.

8. jump rope, crunch sets (ton up) and push ups every night with out fail.

im kind of lucky that im working part time so have the time to do all this. Also i put weight on very easily but i also seem to shift it well easy aswell. ill try get a fatty pic of me taken before up and a new one aswell

Is this contest still going on? If so, Im in! Heres what's currently going on at my side.

Recently joined an Kenpo club, Tried one of their daily workout and i seriously underestimated the training that you go through in these sports

Right now i will be going there once every weekend (More frequently once the real thing starts in april) and do some jogging/stretching at home and see how much i will drop. Currently im at a blank 90 kilos (Yes i know im ****ing huge:grumpy:) and i will mainly eat stuff like meat, pasta, rice, veggies fruits and such.

Can't really put any picture up cause i don't have a webcam nor a camera but i'll try to hook something up later. (Im shy..)

EDIT :

I was thinking of making a blog of my progress, Anyone know some kind of site where i can write one? Would be fun to read later on once im more fit.

alright, I'm officially joining this thread, (After all, I'm the baddest mother****er on this ****box, it only makes sense...)

just kidding with the above, but anyway...

Right now I'm at 280 lbs. The weakest part of my body is my core, so this is what I will look to strengthen along with gaining stamina from the running. But aside from weave drills, jump rope, speedbag, and roadwork...thats about all I do, I don't even punch the bag now...I want to wait until I drop about 25-30 lbs and have a more developed core, so I can then test out my new core and see what kind of hooks it pumps out.

IMO if I can get down to 230 and get a six pack, and very good lateral weaving movement going on in my drills, the speed of my punches will be so much faster...i can only imagine how hard i'd hit if I had a ripped set of abs and obliques with my left and right hooks...

U know it only makes sense...in my case, strong legs, strong upper body, but weak core...Punch travels through the legs to the core, and that's where I believe my punches are weakening...once my core is strengthened enough to fully support the power from my legs in a coordinated fashion, ooooh, that's gonna be some hard shots

You must be pretty damn tall if you're looking to get a six pack at 230 pounds. Your body fat percentage has to be fairly low to have a visible six pack.

If you simply want a strong core, you don't necessarily need a six pack. You can do a ****load of core-strengthening exercises and have a fairly large body fat percentage at 230 pounds, but still be able to pack a solid punch because you've focused a lot of attention on your abdominal muscles.

if you guys need tips on weight lifting and dieting there is no better place than

www.stronglifts.com

also this is good

http://www.abcbodybuilding.com/magazin/13weekstohardcorefatburningdiet.htm

i wouldnt go by this diet whole heartedly there are some grey areas, but for the newbies it explains alot of stuff, you may have to re-read it a few times, but it will teach you alot about dieting in general

as far as weight lifting goes, get on the stronglifts 5x5, you wont regret it.

some boxers dont lift weights, do what you want, this is just my recommendation.

heres a tip...

muscle burns way more energy idle than fat, therefore just by merely HAVING more muscle on your body, you lose more fat, making it harder for you to gain weight. id say get into lifting weights, cardio helps a ton, but really if you do it right you dont even have to do cardio to lose the weight. weight training and proper diet can get you as ripped as you want, but cardio definitely helps. also weight lifting, if done properly, can have similar effects of cardio.

that said, weight lifting is definitely not necessary, but it sure does help.

once again, www.stronglifts.com
