Hey guys does anyone know these fighters? Jackson Chanet was the European (EBU) Super Middleweight Champion. He was ranked 4th after Joe Calzaghe and Jeff Lacy. Mger was KOed by Calzaghe couple years ago. Are you guys familiar with these fighters and do you think they have a future?

Ex-Calzaghe foe Mkrtchian scores big upset

Mger Mkrtchian, the Russian who Joe Calzaghe hammered to defeat in a one-sided WBO super-middleweight title fight two years ago, is the new European Champion.

The St. Petersburg born fighter, 23-2 (17), scored a big upset, knocking out unbeaten and hyped-up Frenchman Jackson Chanet, now 26-1 (15) in 11 rounds Friday night at the Parc des Expositions de Reims in Reims, France.

In an absorbing contest, Chanet finally wilted and slumped to the canvas after yet another furious exchange where the challenger got the better of him. The home fighter was counted out, his WBA title shot against Mikkel Kessler going up in flames.

Also: Frederic Klose won the European welterweight title with a 12 round decision over Antonio Lauri for the vacant belt. It is Klose's second reign as champ.

Calzaghe absolutely dominated that guy! And Chanet was actually supposed to be a really, really good prospect.

Makes you appreciate just how good Calzaghe is.

Chanet had already given up on that shot at Kessler. His manager came out and officially told the WBA, that his fighter wasn't ready for Kessler (Now how often does that sort of thing happen - you get a tittleshot but don't want it?? ).

The right to be mandatory challenger was supposed to go to the winner of Green/Mundine next, but I guess this happening fecks that up too.

Hard to get exiced about Kessler-Mger :(

Chanet was always one step away from being exposed. The French are so deprived of good boxers that they overhyped the bloke.

Very nice, another Armenian with a major boxing title.

1) Arthur Abraham (IBF Middleweight)
2) Vic Darchinyan (IBF/IBO Flyweight)
3) Mger Mkrtchian (European Super Middleweight title)

Now we need my boy Vanes Martirosyan to get a Super Welterweight title soon to join the group.
