View Full Version : WWE Royal Rumble 2005: Politically Incorrect?

I saw WWE's Royal Rumble last night, my first time seing a WWE show in months. Something that really caught my attention was when the guy with the arab gimick came in. He came in ****y and all (which was part of his gimmick of course) and when he got in the ring during the rumble, every single wrestler stopped what they were doing and looked at him. Then they proceeded to gang up on the arabic dude. They then lifted him up and threw him over the ropes which was how you got eliminated. I know it's fake and all but it's the statement that they made. I thought it was pretty tasteless and had I have been of arabic decent, I would have found it seriously seriously offensive. They have a warning message before but still I thought it was crossing a very thin racial line. Anybody else caught it?

Wow that's crazy man. I haven't seen a WWF (I refuse to say WWE) program in years. I haven't watched it since HBK was a prominent wrestler. Anyway...that's bull**** that they pulled that kinda thing. Wrestling is too much about shock value and fugazi wrestlers these days. Give me Koko B. Ware and Ricky the Dragon Steamboat anyday.

It's not an isolated instance. Shortly after 9/11 they had the "Un-Americans" from Canada; around the Iraq conflict La Resistance, another Anti-American group from France, debuted. (later they were introduced as from French Quebec). It's a cheap way to generate heel heat.

Heck, they've got a mentally handicapped wrestler now named Eugene and they were quite insensitive when exploiting one-legged Zach Gowen's stint in the fed.

Remember Rodney Mack's gimmick - he beat up white guys. Teddy Long would accompany him and call white people devils and offer up a "white boy challenge"

I remember Vince McMahon once suggesting in a worked interview that the "T" in Booker T's name stood for "troglodyte."

Jerry Lawler once made a joke about Ahmed Johnson tripping over his bottom lip.

Let's not forget The Iron Sheik and Sgt. Slaughter as well...

Neils,
There was also the "Nation of domination" if you remember was the pro-black faction they created. In sunday's RR they also made a parody of Forrest Gump with Eugene. The stint with the arab gimmick one just stuck with me cuz the way it was visibly potrayed was just tasteless. They had a arab guy getting his "ass-kicked" (we all know its fake but still). This was PPV on top of this ****. Anyweyz guys thanks for the insight.

Not too long ago, WWE did a show in Germany and John Bradshaw Layfield (JBL) was throwing Hitler and Nazi salutes to the crowd while they were booing him. I don't know of the exact details, but doing those types of gestures, or anything to do with Hitler and Nazis is against the law in Germany. It was a huge story in Germany, it was front page news material.
JBL was a guest on The Howard Stern show and addressed the situation. I believe he defended his actions as part of his wrestling character.

What was the greatest finishing move ever?

My favorite move ever...the one that got me SO amped up everytime it was about to be executed...was Sweet Chin Music by HBK. Maybe it's just because he was my favorite wrestler ever.

I think the worst finisher ever was Hogans Big Boot followed by the Leg Drop...what a ***** ass move.

Rey Mysterio Jr's Shooting Star Press was ****ing insane too.

yah OG, loved the heartbreak kid and his sweet chin music. Always got me pumped. Worst one I find was the bronco buster by XPAC, it just looked fruity. I like Rikishi's when he just smeared his big ol ass on the peoples faces lol but the best vintage supermove I find is taker's tombstone.

Macho Man's flying elbow off the top rope was awesome.

The pile driver was pretty good too. When i was a kid I couldn't figure out how they didn't split their heads wide open or Break the guys neck.

The figure 4 leg lock was a submission hold. I slapped my brother in that once when we were kids and almost broke his leg. I got grounded for like 2 weeks. :D

But the man is very smart in the financial world. He even published a book on it. He's pretty much a Texas Wallstreet Tycoon in real life. Pretty similar to his character in wrestling.

I loved the Ultimate Warrior and became sad when I found out he was a complete joke later on. When he's off the roids he looks like a little *****.

I always thought that Tito Santana was the Latino version of the Texas Tornado.

I never liked that Virgil was The Million Dollar Man's *****. He was always like, "Uh yessuh boss I'll give him duh power slam na."
I was happy when he finally smoked him in the back of the head with the Intercontinental belt.

Hulk Hogan is the most well known wrestler but also the WORST actual wrestler...he had the most unathletic set of moves ever.
