View Full Version : Should Gatti retire after Baldomir?
paulkimlax 04-12-2006, 11:40 AM Should Gatti retire after the fight with Baldomir? I would love to see Gatti fighting other fighters after fight with Baldomir but he has taken too much punishment in his 15 year pro career. I don't want him to turn out like Meldrick Taylor.
medium-deek 04-12-2006, 11:42 AM He wont retire. A Hatton fight would be too tempting for him to walk away from.

but Gatti has to beat Baldomir first. hatton-gatti will be a great fight if it happens.
it will be perfect,
Gatti beat Baldomir for the WBC title, Hatton beat Collazo for the WBA title and they could have a title unification fight. And the winner(Hatton) of that could face PBF (IBF champ) for the U.D. welterweight chanpionship.
hope this **** happens :D
Easy-E 04-12-2006, 11:57 AM gatti shouldnt look past baldy, he could get upset

i agree with you there. baldomir is a tough guy, just like gatti. it should be a great action packed fight. i wouldn't mind if i pay $45 to watch this fight if it was on PPV.
do you think baldy would be favor on the betting odds or gatti?
Left2body 04-12-2006, 12:12 PM Why does anyone want to see Hatton vs Gatti? I think if Gatti beats Baldomir that he should have 1 defense in AC and retire. He should'nt fight Hatton, its a mis-match and takes time away from real fights of Hatton possibly fighting Cotto, Margarito, PBF even Hatton vs Zab would be more interesting and entertaining.

hatton gatti would be a good fight, closer than alot of people think
gatti can take a ****load of punishment, and can dish it out, too. they both also have similar styles, it should be interesting
Left2body 04-12-2006, 12:24 PM Gatti has been in a lot of wars. PBF beat him bad but didnt have the power of these guys and if Gatti can seriously get hurt fighting elites such as Hatton, Cotto, Margarito because they have power.
It would probably be exciting for the first round or 2 then all those wars Gatti has been in will show there effect. I dont even doubt the outcome, does any here even doubt the outcome? I would much rather see Hatton vs someone that has a realistic shot and not someone past there prime (who even at his prime was a B-Skill level).
Now thinking about it, its pretty funny how people are calling out to see Gatti vs Hatton but ragged on PBF for fighting Gatti  I mean the favoritism is overwhelming.
Kid Achilles 04-12-2006, 12:31 PM Hatton is several classes above Gatti. I really don't think he will get by Baldomir to be honest. Gatti is used to bullying smaller physically weaker men but Baldomir is actually stronger than Gatti is IMO.
All Gatti has going for him against Baldomir is a bigger punch and it won't be enough because Baldomir has a great chin. I think Baldomir outworks him and wins a decision.
Dirt E Gomez 04-12-2006, 12:36 PM Whether he wins or loses, he'll do 1 more basic fight and a retirement fight in front of atlantic city against a quasi-bum to say goodbye. So I'd say at least 2 but probably 3 more (including Baldy obviously)
joeytrimble 04-12-2006, 02:56 PM this guy is like insane who knows what he'll do hes the type of rugged guy that can go on 5 more years and win big who knows
he'll go out on his shield knowing him

After watching baldomir fight judah, i think hes too slow to beat gatti. the only reason he beat judah is because he outworked him which is because judah didnt fight half the time.
whoami 04-12-2006, 03:55 PM gatti will whoop hatton's ass.
MetalVomit 04-12-2006, 04:28 PM Win or lose, he should definently retire after Baldomir.

I would love to see a Warrior who has given so much to the sport retire on top with all his facilities. If he wins I dont want to see that marred by him getting a beating to an elite fighter.
But what made us love him (his heart)might be the same thing that hurts him in the end.

Remember PAULKIMLAX, if Gatti beats beats Baldy he would be considered the champ at 147, which means he is the linear champ, WBC champ and Ring champ, and will go in the books that he is man at welterweight. technically he would be undisputed, but its kinda hard to get ppl to believe that since PBF is @ 147.
and im foing to agree w/ PBF34 here I think what needs to be done if Gatti beats Baldy (which the odds might be 2-1 for Gatti, since Baldy is the champ)and ur right PBF34 Gatti should not be looking past Baldy, he is very tough, but like I said in a previous post Gatti should make his first defense aginst Urkal or the Estrada Cintron winner.
Then a possible shot against Hatton, the only fact is Gatti would be 35 and Hatton would be well into his prime, and it really comes down to if Gatti can box Hatton better than Tszyu, b/c I think Gatti is a stronger puncher than KT and Im only basing this on Leija said and he fought them both and Gatti actually stopped Leija a RD earlier too. But the age and the battles Gatti has been in will worry me if he fights Hatton in 2007
TheEvilSaint 04-12-2006, 07:43 PM i think gatti should retire after his next loss (which will NOT be to baldy).
the_truth_1984 04-12-2006, 08:29 PM If Gatti beats Baldomir he should retire and go out on top.He deserves that much for being a warrior and giving the fans so many great fights.
UntouchableM2 04-12-2006, 08:30 PM no...i dont think he should....
i love arturo gatti and i never want to see him leave. but on the other hand i dont want him to get hurt. maybe a couple fights after baldomir then call it a day.
JohnL 04-12-2006, 09:27 PM if he beats Baldomir he should retire. This would be the absolute peak of his career. Historically though how many fighters have been able to go out on top?
Don't you wish Ali had quit after Spinks II or Foreman after Moorer? It's in a warriors nature (maybe everybody's nature)to believe success will always follow success. Boxing more than anything shows how that ain't so.
