View Full Version : Gatti's CROOKED camp
SacTown1 01-31-2005, 11:33 AM Arturo Gatti's crew is at it again! Let's hyper-analyze the events of last Saturday:
- Both fighters weigh-in at 140 the day before, but for some odd reason, HBO's scales conveniently don't make it into the fighter's dressing rooms prior to the fight. Hmmmmmm is this maybe because Gatti was around 160 the time of the fight, while Jesse James was around 144 or so?!?!?! Hmmmm.....
- at the post fight press conference, Plain Events announces that Gatti's next fight will once again be in A.C., because they KNOW that Mayweather would get jobbed if her were dumb enough to fight on Arturo's hometurf. Gatti's people are trying to geographically deal Floyd out of the hand. Plain Events knows that Mayweather-Gatti is a total mismatch, so they will do everything possible to prevent the fight, and step #1 was at the press conference.
No disrespect to Arturo, one of the most entertaining fighters of this or any generation, but he has the most crooked team this side of the Atlantic (No disrespect to Frank Warren, he's still the King, all pun intended).

jack_the_rippuh 01-31-2005, 11:35 AM If he fights Mayweather he might be in there at 205lb. by fight time..
marvelous_TG 01-31-2005, 11:40 AM How the **** does he do that? weigh in at 140 and the next few hours blow up to 160. Does anyone no what gatti's walk around weight is? i know they dry themselfs out or something but how exactly do you do that? and i heart it's bad for you internal organs like kidneys liver hart etc.
That would be a nice thread to start fighters walk around weight like:
-tszyu's
-tyson
-gatti
-lacy
etc.
SacTown1 01-31-2005, 11:44 AM Gatti's walk-around weight is about 165 I've been told, then he comes down to 140 and ends up around 157-160 by fight time....I pray for Joey Gamache, gatti's criminal camp almost killed the poor f*ck....
jack_the_rippuh 01-31-2005, 11:48 AM There is nothing I can't stand more than a fighter who doesn't fight at what weight is natural to him, instead decideds to dry himself out to go fight naturally smaller guys. For instance, Corrales, the guy walks around at 160, maybe even 168...take your ass to middleweight if that's the case...or Junior Middleweight at least..

Yeah but Chico's from SacTown, so I give him a free pass :)
spinksjinx 01-31-2005, 11:59 AM If you can make it at the time of the weigh in, Why not? I realize it is bad in a sense but the other guy has the same amount of time to put weight on he can. Also I think if one day I was 140 and the next day I was 165, thats 15 EXTRA POUNDS overnight, I think I would feel it and be a little bit slow myself. But who knows.
DR. FREECLOUD 01-31-2005, 12:07 PM most fighters go into the fight heavier than the weigh in weight. its nothing new.
spinksjinx 01-31-2005, 12:14 PM most fighters go into the fight heavier than the weigh in weight. its nothing new.
Andre Ward comes in lighter, he weighed in at 165 I think and came in at 164....That boy should fight at middleweight or 154.
Kornhusker 01-31-2005, 12:21 PM If it isn't illegal than what does it matter? As for HBO's "unofficial scale", I wish more fighters would decline that ****, it does nothing but cause controversy.
PRboxingfan 01-31-2005, 12:45 PM That **** won't help him against a naturally faster fighter such as Floyd or a fighter who does the same thing such as Cotto. If Gatti climbs in the ring with either one of these two fighters he can kiss his title good-bye.
marvelous_TG 01-31-2005, 12:49 PM That **** won't help him against a naturally faster fighter such as Floyd or a fighter who does the same thing such as Cotto. If Gatti climbs in the ring with either one of these two fighters he can kiss his title good-bye.
I have to agree with you if he climbs in the ring with them and tszyu his ass is done, i think hatton takes him too.
jack_the_rippuh 01-31-2005, 12:51 PM But the **** I don't get is why not fight at a higher weight, is it because they fear they won't be competitive at that weight?
jack_the_rippuh 01-31-2005, 12:51 PM You see I naturally weigh 126, if I was to box I wouldn't go down to 105 to try to beat up smaller guys..
BrooklynBomber 01-31-2005, 12:56 PM But the **** I don't get is why not fight at a higher weight, is it because they fear they won't be competitive at that weight?
You are right. Fighters go down in weight and fight in lighter weight divisions to have an advantage. I dont think that Gatti would have a chance against guys Like Winky or, God Forbid, Hopkins
The1God 01-31-2005, 12:57 PM You do what you have to do to win. If I could have gotten down to Cruiser or Lt HW, I would have. It is a safer fight, it can help build your record and confidence. I do give Gatti a chance against Mayweather, Cotto would be a lot harder, due to styles. Leija looked so small compared to Gatti though.
But the **** I don't get is why not fight at a higher weight, is it because they fear they won't be competitive at that weight?
What you are really suppose to do is come into the fight at your natural weight so if you come in at 126 and you can go down to 115 and then put on 11 pounds you will be at you natural weight but beating up on 115 pound guys. Also these guys train very hard so it is natural for them to lose weight during training anyway. Go run 5 miles a day and then so how much you weigh
PRboxingfan 01-31-2005, 01:27 PM But the **** I don't get is why not fight at a higher weight, is it because they fear they won't be competitive at that weight?
Equality is an advantage to no man. If one person is able to lose 15 pounds and step into the ring at 140 then the other man has the same ability to lose 15 pounds and fight at, say, 130. A fighter choses to fight closer to his natural weight so he doesn't feel drained. If someone else has the ability to do it and still be effective on fight night then so be it.
Also, if they fight at a heavier weight they will be fighting against fighters who will come in a lot heavier then them on fight night since they, too, drain themselves to make weight and gain 15 pounds in the 36 hours since the weigh in.
bonafuwa 01-31-2005, 02:03 PM All fighters lose weight before fights, it's just that Gatti's (as well as Corrales and Tarver) have to kill themselves to get to their fighting weight. That gives them an advantage over guys who fight closer to their natural weights. Props to guys like Spinks and Winky who are true welterweights and jr. middles.
jack_the_rippuh 01-31-2005, 02:15 PM Nah, but the case with most of these fighters is that they struggle to get down to the weight they're suppose to get it, but they know if they were to move up in weight they'd get their ass handed to them..
Eyeh8you 01-31-2005, 02:33 PM You see I naturally weigh 126, if I was to box I wouldn't go down to 105 to try to beat up smaller guys..

Floydmayweather 01-31-2005, 04:33 PM Its not illegal and the hbo scale weighing is pointless.
gatti has been doing this for years.... all the way back to when he nearly put gamache in a coma... its no surpise to anyone, least of all gatti's opponents....
