View Full Version : What has Hatton does vs other fighters that he can do vs Zoo?
Super_Lightweight 01-31-2005, 11:14 AM Looking at Hatton's other fights, what do yall think he can vs Zoo that he did vs other opponents. Will his body punching be a factor?
Can he outbox Zoo for any period of time?
I've only seen him fight once so I wouldn't know, but everytime I do he's unleashing some hellish body blows.
Champoreeno 01-31-2005, 11:17 AM Good question. I've never seen Hatton fight. How does he take a punch, and has he ever been in with anyone remotely as powerful as Tzsyu?
same post i put in another thread but you get the jist, he fought vince phillips (who was on the slide but he had the power to ko zoo so.....) he can adapt he did so against tackie anyway.....
Everyone has written off hatton, thats a dangerous thing to do. Im not saying hatton will win but here is a reasoned argument why he stands a decent chance.
Kostya is knocking on now as a light welter he is ageing. You never know when I fighter is gonna turn old and Hatton has a workrate to expose this if Kostya starts blowing a bit.
Secondly since his injury Kostya has had three rounds when he dismantled Sharmba Mitchell. However while Kostya was impressive Sharmba looked shot to ****. He fought the wrong fight and seemed terrified to me, again as an ageing fighter Mitchell's style relies on reflex and speed, he had neither on the night. Hatton would also have dismanlted Mitchell based on that performance. So Kostya may not be quite as ring sharp and prepared as he may like, Hatton could expose this.
As a "protected" fighter we just dont know how good Hatton is, nobody has extended him simple as that. Could he be better than he is being given credit for after all he has been stopping guys who have never been halted before who have fought at the top (stewart oliveria).
Desire Hatton wants to prove the critics wrong he wants it so bad.
Home advantage, its gonna be one of the biggest events in the british sporting calender, the support and hostility to Zoo (especially as he is an adopted Aussie and the Ashes are on in they UK this year so the banter flying between us poms and the Aussies will be in full force)
Has Kosta fought a man who is in his prime, whose workrate is second to none and who is likely to test his stamina of late. Simple answer is no, so it evens it out a little in my book.
I still have it 60-40 in favour of Zoo and that big right hand BUT if hatton can work out a strategy to negate that honey punch, I can see him pulling off an upset.
Super_Lightweight 01-31-2005, 11:27 AM Hatton better cowboy up and gaurd that grill.
onikami 01-31-2005, 11:32 AM Hattom will charge out to Zoo from the first round, just like he did against the Oliveria. I predict Zoo will take some very powerful punches in that very first round. And they will hurt.
Cletus Funk 01-31-2005, 11:56 AM If Hatton can avoid being KO'd he will make Zoo work harder than he's ever had to before and we'll find out if he is as super-conditioned as alot of people on here say that he is. Zoo's never been subjected to the kind of body abuse that Hatton will give him so that's another question he needs to answer.
elveiel 01-31-2005, 12:10 PM As usual Hatton's just gonna take the fight to Tszyu and let the best man win, even when Hatton try to box his opponent he never takes a backwards step so i predict a war.
IMO Hatton chins looked solid thoughout his career, Tszyu's on the other hand hasnt, maybe thats the level of opponents but when even the weak punching fighters have hurt Tszyu.
oldgringo 01-31-2005, 12:18 PM Hatton is going to take a lot of punishment regardless of whether he beats Tszyu or not. He'll have to be able to take a few of Tszyu's best shots in order to win. I think Hatton's workrate could really trouble Kostya if Ricky's chin holds up.
spinksjinx 01-31-2005, 12:20 PM What about the fact that the fight is at 4AM!!! I think this will effect Tszyu and Kostya has *****ed about fighting at this time as well.

2am is far better, i'll still be fully awake at that time.

If I can get the tickets I'll be there. Are you going too?
elveiel 01-31-2005, 02:38 PM If I can get the tickets I'll be there. Are you going too?
Yeah, I dont want ringside or the gods, i want seats on the lower tier or i'll be watching on TV.
Hopefuly we will get our tickets mate, My girl hasnt seen a live Hatton fight yet so she really wants to go to this one.
I've heard a lot of people put off by the violence rumours, i know people will be a lot more drunk at that time but i'm not expecting too many problems.
hitman7hearns7 01-31-2005, 02:40 PM i think if hatton can expose zoo early he has a chance but if zoo gets to hatton first hes gonna get knocked out
hatton will have to put zoo under pressure to win and it will probly be on points i think hatton just gotta stay alive and his workrate will win him the fight.
jack_the_rippuh 01-31-2005, 02:42 PM Hatton can probably hurt Tszyu. Tsyzu isn't easy to hurt. I just watched that Zab fight and Zab had him hurt in round 1. I think if Hatton can hurt Tszyu and apply pressure he can put him away but the way the fight is most likely going to go is Hatton boxing cautiously and end up getting KO'd

Caution and Hatton dont belond in the same sentence, lol :D
Its a real hard fight to pick, i've slighty favoured Tszyu for a while now but i'm seeing flaws in Tszyu that Hatton's style would/could expose. I'm

I've not been to one yet either so I'm really looking forward to it. I think I'm going for the lower tier too, hopefully at the front of it. I'm gonna be stalking the website all night to make sure I'm straight in there when they go on sale.
I don't think there will be much trouble, possibly a couple of dickheads who can't hold their beer, but I'm going with quite a few mates and most of us are big lads and can handle ourselves so I'm not too worried. It's usually a pretty happy atmosphere from what I've seen on TV but I suppose it could potentially get a bit nasty with the combination of a Hatton loss and too much beer.

When i first walked in to the arena its like walking into Manchester crown court mate!! :D There are some thugs but i've never seen any problems.
Like you say, everyone wants to enjoy the show more than cause trouble.

I used to go over to Manchester quite a bit to see the Inspiral Carpets and Stone Roses back in the late eighties, and to the Hacienda, and there are some pretty dodgy ****ers about, you're right. :D

I've had the pleasure of staying in one of Longsight police stations best rooms mate :D its rough round there, a lot of crazy bastards.
The M.E.N's in a cool part anyways, there's some nice bars around the Deansgate area. I was there on saturday night for a while before we headed to a club.
Eyeh8you 01-31-2005, 03:58 PM Man i can't fukin wait for this fight. I also go 60/40 in favor of Tszuy but by no means would be suprised if Tszuy got dusted by the English duster! Iv'e seen like 6 fights of Hatton and the kid only goes for the kill from the first ding. Alot bigots here hate on Hatton or have never seen (probably both) I say this will be a fukin wafr with Tszuy commin out on top, but Hatton gainin support after the Haters see his heart and grit!
Floydmayweather 02-01-2005, 12:50 AM I think Zoo will win but i have seen some tapes of Hatton this kid is for real.
jedihillis 02-01-2005, 02:17 AM Anyone with a name like "Zoo" deserves to have their ass beaten.
Nodogoshi 02-01-2005, 04:48 AM I like Hatton alot but I dont think he is the same caliber a fighter as Tszyu. Tszyu grew up training for the Soviet national boxing team and he has got to be one of the best professional fighters ever to come out of Russia. His power is astonishing and I have no doubt that he knows everything about the game. Plus Hatton punches too wide. Tszyu will punch inside Hatton's wild swings and catch him with solid straight punches, and Tszyu is one of the best at roughing guys up on the inside. I think Hatton does have a chance to win though with his youth, aggression, and rapid fire punching. If Hatton can survive the first half of the fight I could see Hatton rallying late to score a KO in 10 or 11. I am picking Tszyu by KO in 5.
