With so much debate on the forum as to his last fight, I contacted Ignacio "Nacho" Berstain and have set up an interview with Juan Manuel Marquez to take place early next week for "The Scene" audio show. Since my motivation for this were several threads regarding his last fight I felt that it would be best if I let you, the great fans, ask the questions and find out first hand what Marquez feels and what is his next move. Please post your questions here. JMM is currently in Cancun, Mexico, vacationing with his family but is expected back to Mexico this Wednesday. Make sure you speak your mind and get your questions on here. A winner will be picked for the questions selected and a prize will be given to that winner.

Thank you for your support

1) why, after its been so blatant, and detrimental to his career is he still with nacho? i will agree, nacho is a good trainer, its evident by his body of work - but he needs a PROFESSIONAL manager - not a guy who want to have an opinion in everything.

2) comment then question. i d'loaded the john fight, and it was a robbery, hands down, w/ the 2 point deduction (which was awful officiation) you had a clear 3 round victory, just want you to know the fans, of non-thailand decent know who won. now, where do you go from here, to 130lb?? te deseo mucho bien en el futuro campeon!

I have a good question. Why did he puss out of a rematch against Pacquiao? Is it because he knows he was lucky to get a draw? I'd also like to let him know that I laugh at him at least once a day for losing to Chris John for like a tenth (or worse, I don't really know) of the money he would have made in a rematch with Pacquiao.

No need to be disrespectful. Lets keep the questions respectful. Words like "puss" are not needed in the question.

dude, he didn't chicken out  he listened to a guy who was underqualified in making a correct assessment of his market share w/ pac. it was a bad decision, verrrry bad decision. he put it on pac, boxing lesson for the maj of the fight, and was trying to cash in, big time, and they failed miserably - you gotta live w/ your decisions - hopefully pac shows him mercy in the future and offers him 300,000 for a rematch.

You mean why did you not take the re-match against Pacquiao? I know that's what you meant to write. :)

Would you fight Pacquiao again after you saw what he did to Morales? If you would do you think you would have the confidence against him? You got robbed against Chris John, but Chris actually won some rounds in that fight, how well do you think you will manage against Pac man? Who will you be fighting next?

I agree with you, in my opinion the main reason why JMM had some success against pacquiao after the horrible first round was because all pacquiao really threw was that jab jab left 1-2 combination, and trying to go for the KO. Now Pacquiao has developed a nice counter right hand that has pop behind it (the same one that shook up Morales' knees in the tenth.) Pacquiao's attacks wont be as easy to read if they ever fought again...I would ask JMM if he believes it will be as easy to counter pac the second time around.

Many put you ahead of Barrera and Morales as the best technical fighter at 126/130 weight class after witnessing your great comeback against Pacquaioa. However, you have not fought either of the three following your terrefic showing against Pacquaioa.

The question simply is, are there some personal issues or promotional issues that are preventing you from fighting the other superstars in the division?

Mr. Marquez, there is no dought that you are a great fighter, However what in your opionion allowed you to loose this fight ageinst a solid but not world caliber like yourself fighter. I am most wondering what it was about this fight that persuaded you to take short money when you could have made 1,000,000 or more agienst Pac. That was a fight that you showed your heart and skill in more so than any of your victoies eventhough I belive you lost that fight. I would just like to hear your thoughts Sir on the choices you made, and why, over the last year and a half.

JMM, do you think, as one of the best technical boxers today, your being underpaid is somewhat justified?

Is there a possibility you could somehow upgrade your style to a combination of a tactician while taking some risks to make a fight more exciting?

If any promoter offers you 500k to fight Pacquiao, would you take it or demand a higher purse?

Papa Ace
04-12-2006, 10:32 AM
1. Pacquiao will always be the ONLY thing that will take you out in the doldrums right? However, Pacquiao does not seem to be interested in facing you right now because :

a. first, you do not command PPV buys as well as Morales and Barrera, whom Pac would opt to face since he is obviously after the money game right now.

b. second, Pac knows you are a dangerous opponent and would probably save you for later.

In this case, how do you while your time away, who do you fight and how often? do you still plan to stay on featherweight and wait for Pac or move on to higher weights and try your luck there?

2. There was so much criticism regarding your management and how they handle you, particularly on purse bids on which you cried over a "measly" $750K for a Pac fight that went on a draw but gladly accepted a $30K purse to fight in a third-world country only to lose. A lot of people have lots of respect for your skills but they feel you are not being managed well. Do you still plan to work with this kind of people?

It was obvious the judges screwed Marquez after he clearly beat Pacquiao. Question #1: Why didn't Marquez throw caution to the wind and knock him out? Pacquiao was clearly beaten mentally, and was ready to be taken down the last two rounds. Question#2: Why didn't Marquez take the rematch against Pacquiao. He had already drawn up the blueprint for beating Pacquiao, and as a matter of fact Morales studied the way Marquez beat Pacquiao and used the same sytem himself!

LOL, the judges screwed who? wha? don't you remember that one judge admitted scoring the 1st round erroneously, and pac would've won if not for that? jmm gave a great fight and i accept it's a draw, but pac was the one who got screwed in the scoring, if you want to get technical about it.

ok, but i'll go along with your questions. so why didnt JMM?
#1. he couldnt. pac's chin is tougher than jmm.
#2. he either ducked knowing he eked out a lucky draw, he has too much pride to take that 'lowly' prizemoney (lol :D) , or his manager is just plain dumb.

I think what happened to RJJ was way worse than what happened to JMM, because I don't know if there's a better thing for any sportman than winning a gold medal for his country. What happened to Jones was just plain criminal. I think he fed off it to become one of the greats in this era.

Starting tomorrow, this part of the forum is getting a major cleanup. We are running down the list and instead of banning users totally off the forum, they will get banned from the NSB portion of the forum.

someone like pacman everyone would respect more

he did clearly duck pacman for a rematch that much was obvious

boxers are thick skinned they can handle it but yeah maybe ur right and its disrespectful to them

theres chats you can do where its just screened questions and such so if any idiots said anything stupid to pacman like socks or something he wouldnt even see it

I'm just getting tired of journalists/fans asking the same boring questions over and over(no pun intended). Sometimes, you have rub them the wrong way to get your point across. Most of the questions here are so damn obvious I can answer them myself, and I know they are the right answers.

Why didn't he rematch Pacquiao? Why did he go to Indonesia for little money? Why is he still with Nacho? Does he hate Bob Arum? If you follow Marquez' career at all, then you probably know the answers to those questions.

Is Marquez even gonna tell something that we DON'T know? That's what the fans need to hear. If it's not boxing related, then it's even better. Ask him some personal questions, anything. I hope I get my point across. Don't tell me something that I already know, that's all.

Morales had a bad night, and everyone knows it. I want to know, do you think you could knockout, or tko, Pacquiao if you fought him again? I think that Pacquiao is barely a boxer, and gets lucky wins on good fighters, JMM would own him.

Is Morales and Barrera kindred spirits? :D

PAC was lucky for 21 rounds, I don't know of any other fighter that was lucky for 21 rounds
:D . So Pac must've had his eyes closed for 21 rounds against "El Pollo" and "Ugly Face Assasin".

Let me put it to you this way. It was "El Pollo" and "Ugly Face" who were lucky they didn't get murdered and just went to the emergency room.

Lucky was JMM that the judge had a "brain fart".

One thing I'll agree with is that PAC is "barely a boxer", but he sure knows how to FIGHT!
