I can take Merchant's terse interviewing style with a pinch of salt, but is Lederman's shouty/retarded style just that of an *******?

I don't no I have gotten so used to hearing Lederman's voice on HBO broadcasts it doesn't bother me. I think Lederman is very qualified for the job.

A loaded question by any chance?

I have a hard time getting past that voice too. But, I ****ing love it man, when Lederman steps into a Lampley/Merchant discussion to correct them. Lederman's voice is one thing, but what he says is another. So, I'd say no to *******, but agree to the shouty/retard thing.

I don't have any problem with Lederman's voice or what he says, I just don't like his reasoning on who he gives rounds to sometime..

I sometimes disagree with the guy, but I think he adds a lot to HBO boxing.

HBO IS PERFECT!

Hbo is perfect if you are only interested in hearing the commentators talk about how great the hbo fighter is doing during the contest. Lampley is by far the worst when it comes to this, anytime a hbo guy lands even a grazing shot he goes nuts telling you how pinpoint the guys accuracy is, all while calling a hard landed shot by the opponent a decent grazing blow! Yet this is exactly what they are supposed to do, clearly Lampley is the one that gets told by the powers that be to dominate the play-by-play with nothing but love for their fighters, and on the other end of the spectrum you've got Larry Merchant, who even if told to talk up the hbo guy will say exactly what's on his mind at the time, no matter how ****ed up it is. That is what I used to hate about Merchant but I have come to really appreciate his verbal spewage of the harsh truth (kinda like his little jab last weekend about Floyd's women sparring partners). Overall HBO is light years ahead of the competition as far as production value and commentating and quality of fights. One suprise that I actually like alot is Roy Jones' comments and what he brings to the table, plus it's funny to me that Lampley has at some point in each broadcast with RJJ at his side made mention of the back to back ko losses by Roy! Harold Lederman is very loud and annoying with his assesment on the fight but hey what are you gonna do he only talks every third round or so, so screw it. And lastly I am just really glad that Lampley no longer feels the need to wear that ****ing Hair-Helmut he sported for so long!!!

Yeah, Lampley pisses me off too. Merchant is cool though.

You're right, guys, this topic shouldn't have been discussed. Let's see a cut down on boxing discussion around here!

I favor HBO boxing, but I still love Shobox/broadway/ballroom boxing series also.. Merchant is my favorite of course, he's the signature of HBO boxing really.. Always breakin off poetry about KO wins and etcetra. ;-) boxin wouldn't be the same without those guys. HBO definately has some skilled screenwriters at their disposal, the introduction screenplay for the Legendary Nights is some of the best I've ever seen.

Harold Letterman is worthless. They should dump him and just have Merchant keep score for HBO.

I don't see why you would call him an ******* though...

Lederman is a cool cat. Lampley is also cool and makes fights more lively...I don't buy into the theory that a fight speaks for itself. It's good to have a colorful commentator and that's what Lamps is to me.

Marchant I like the least, but I still like him. He's old school and I respect and value that. He has good things to say like anyone even if he can be condescending sometimes.

Roy brings a fighter's insight to the table and that makes him an asset as well.

Oh so that's why they say Antonio Tarver looks like ET..Normally, he doesn't, but on that picture there's a striking resemblance..

Lampley's the bland stable voice, keeping it in control... Roy is a surprisingly wise (though sometimes misguided, ie. when it comes to Tarver and Johnson not being a challenge to him - run that past me again Roy) while Larry is a cheeky gin-riddled bigot with enough biting comments to last a lifetime.

So what does Ledermen bring to the party? He just shouts like a twat.

Loved Larry's comment "DLHoya is simply beating him (Hops) to the punch", to which Emannuel Stewart says something like "I really haven't seen Oscar do much of anything yet".

Larry's comment came while Oscar was continuing to follow Hops around the ring, throwing very little and missing alot.

God bless The Godfather, but he's the ultimately HBO fighter patsy.
