View Full Version : Leija KTFO? I thought he was too "seasoned"..
GattiFan 01-30-2005, 02:56 AM Bring on the pretty boy cause the "Crafty ring veteran that was too slick for Gatti to beat" is STILL OUT. So silence you fans of over the hill boxers that havent held a belt since leaving the 130 division. 80 something jabs? This fight just made the Floyd fight a lot more interesting to me. Gatti is still going to be a big underdog...but his chances got a lot better in my book after tonights showing.
First Mayweather...then Tzsyu.

Why are you bragging so much because he beat a damn near 40 year old washed up fighter. A prime Leija would kick Gatti's ass. If a win over this guy made his chances look better to you in the Mayweather fight then you must didnt think much of Gatti in the first place. This is the same guy that HBO refused to let Mayweather fight last year
GattiFan 01-30-2005, 03:19 AM Well..because its fun? Because I had to read for a week about how that "40 year old washed up fighter" was going to win this fight? Because a prime Leija would still have gone down after eating those punches? And...well..yea..Gatti boxed better than he ever has? Maybe you think adding a facet to your boxing skills makes you a..worse boxer? Looks like HBO is going to let them fight now doesnt it?
Eyeh8you 01-30-2005, 03:24 AM he lost so what!

He's been boxing like this for a few fights now. I dont even think he looked that good boxing tonight actually. I thought he was too cautious against an old fighter and he still got hit cleaned too much. My point is that you cant judge his boxing skills by what he did against Leija. It will be 100x harder to out box Floyd. The only chance he has is to brawl and hope he catches him with a big punch. He doesnt look like a good boxer at all to me
Yes, Gatti has become a much more disciplined and well rounded fighter. However, who did he prove his boxing skill against? Ward, Bronco, and now Leija. Now, i love Ward and he's one of the ballsiest and most exciting fighters today, but he's barely above an average fighter. It's not too difficult to outbox straight ahead sluggers and past their prime fighters. Gatti has been impressive as of late, but hasn't shown he can beat with a fighter like Mayweather.

And who has Mayweather proved his boxing skills against?
Im very surprised and pleased that Gatti could change his style this late in his career. That he didn't let out the brawler even when he took two right counters. instead he continued jabbing.
I also like how his trainer used steps to work Gatti up. First he wanted Gatti to just jab, then told him to start feinting and then start with the double jab to set up the right. In the break for the last round Leija looked worned out and didn't look like he wanted to fight anymore.
Good fight.
(oh and first post in this part of the forum ^^;)
Smart Money goes on Gatti and Mayweather being on their feet at the end of their fight, and Mayweather wins by a very big points spread. Or money on Mayweather by TKO from pokin' at Gatti's face until it's a big red marshmallow.
Chance money .... Gatti connects and down goes Mayweather.
I pick Gatti to undo Mayweather in the mid-late rounds. Unlike Leija, Mayweather will totally outgun Gatti but not serious hurt him. Gatti will sacrifice his face. Mayweather will get slightly lazy because he's sensing that Gatti is a beat man and he'll get caught sleepin' and won't get out of that round.
Smart Money is still on May.
PRboxingfan 01-30-2005, 10:58 AM And who has Mayweather proved his boxing skills against?
Oh, let's see, there's the second JL Castillo fight, Victoriano Sosa, Carlos "Famoso" Hernandez, Jesus Chavez, Diego Corrales, Chop-Chop Corley, Genaro Hernandez, and Carlos Gerena, just to mention a few.
Floyd's resume reads of the Who's Who in the 130 and 135 pound divisions. He is still to fight a champ at 140 but, if Arturo doesn't get too scared, he might be next.
Fistecles 01-30-2005, 11:05 AM Maybe you weren't looking close enough. Gatti has improved, and is still going to improve until the summer. I don't know if you noticed how much more methodical his movement was. The best example of all this is how, on the ko punch, he stepped back rather then keep swinging. This tells us that he's paying attention and he's ontop. He's going to give MAyweather a good fight.

Have you even looked at Mayweathers Resume?
Corley
N'dou
Sosa
Castillo
Chavez
Hernandez
Corrales

The lower tier guys Floyd has fought is still better than Gattis winning record.

I think by beating Bojado, you can throw that washed up comment out the window.

Beating Bojado proves that your not washed up? Bojado has never done **** and he's already been beaten by a scrub

Bojado was a nice prospect. He was just too damned inexperienced and refused to let his hands go. For some reason he didn't want to jump all over Leija, who really showed up to fight that night. I think beating a young, skilled prospect after everyone has written you off as washed up shows that you still have some gas in the tank.

Good point, but being undefeated isn't everything, look at Glen Johnson. or Gatti. look at Estrada's last two, he rolled over both of them, and they were undefeated. Boxing is a sport that judges play a large part in, and hometown favoritism produces terrible decisions sometimes. (harrison)
AintGottaClue 01-30-2005, 05:25 PM i think gatti will be mayweather as was wlad klitschko was to chris byrd
tri4ben2 01-30-2005, 05:46 PM i think gatti will be mayweather as was wlad klitschko was to chris byrd
What in the hell does that mean?
Gatti will not just stand there and let Mayweather pound on him all night.
Mayweather should be the favorite based on boxing skill, but it the intangables, Gatti will be able to take the best of Mayweather much better than the other way around.
AintGottaClue 01-30-2005, 05:57 PM wlad klitschko beat the **** outta byrd who reminds me of mayweather i think gatti will do the same
m00ks 01-30-2005, 06:29 PM Beating Bojado proves that your not washed up? Bojado has never done **** and he's already been beaten by a scrub
well beating Bojado deosn't make you a superstar but still proves tehres SOME fight left in you. In any case, if Leija was shot then Gatti disposed of a shot fighter pretty well.
QueenCity 01-30-2005, 07:00 PM Was Leija even trying in there? Yeah I guess so because its hard work making Gatti look that good.
Floydmayweather 01-30-2005, 07:06 PM Gatti will beat the **** out of Mayweather ha ha. I cant wait for this fight Floyd is going to eat Gatti alive. He is going to be cut open after round 1. And as for Floyds resume it is much better and he has disposed of fighters that Gatti lost to (Manfredy) ;)
