I know but it was the best fight in many, many years! Total power shots back and forth the entire fight! That was Rocky 6!

You are either Russian, or you have never seen any of the Holyfield-Bowe fights.

Good ass fight man.. I hope they fight again. I thought Brewster would KO him while he hurted him. But i was wrong. Both good fighters. Sergi is fast and hits hard. He deserves the title.

Yeah Sergei kind of had a Calzaghe thing going on with that hand speed (not the same defense though). I swore this fight was over 10 different times going in both directions. How did you score the knockdown and the 9th round where BRewster was out on his feet? I went 2 point rounds both times and I gave the 12th to Brewster to make it 114-112. That ref was awful. He botched the end of the one round and I think he wasn't going to step in and make sure a fighter was ok no matter what. Someone could have got killed. He wasn't even yelling in to the battered guy to say to throw back which you usually see.

I saw those fights live but it has been so long since there has been such a back and forth powerfest that it seems like the best. I was just kidding when I said it was the best but know doubt it was great! I don't know if Brewster will ever be the same. He is definately gonna stutter in a couple of years from all the punishment he takes in every fight.

I guess you can say it was the best heavyweight fight in a long time, possibly right next to Wlad vs Peter in the time span following Vitali vs Lewis.

the 12th to Brewster to make it 114-112. That ref was awful

Sergei won the last round very easily. I think you are the only person who has scored it this way.

Great heavyweight scrap!!! Sergei def won, but Brewster just won't quit. they both took huge punches. i thought Brewster turned the tide in the 7th, but liakhovich came back. the problem still in this division is that anybody can beat anybody else at any dam time!!!!!! nobody stands out from the pack, but i could deal with more fights like this

Come on guys, both guys deserve the props for the best HW fight I've seen in years. How can you compare this to Toney/Rahman, Toney/Ruiz or Byrd's fight? The only fight that even comes close was Lewis/Vitali. This is what HW division needed for a long time.

Listen... good fight, sure. But Ali-Frazier 3 puts that fight to SHAME!!!!!! Come on, Frazier landing big huge shots.. ALI landing COMBINATIONS in succession... guys today land three punches in a row and everybody gets crazy.. Ali at his peak would repeatredly lands five or six FLUSH shots in a row on opponents.

it had alot of drama, i never thought it would make it to the end. the ref gave brewster alot of leeway, which i think is good because his rep tells you that he can come back. brewster threw one combo to the body all fight, and it made sergei take a knee. that was a huge mistake. but sergei's body work was excellent

It was a great fight.Back and forth action throughout.Lyakhovich showed me a lot tonight and I was impressed. He took some vicious shots and gave some vicious shots.Fight of the Year no doubt.I would love to see a rematch. This fight is what the hw division needed.

Hey, what was up with the ref stopping the action and ordering the guys to their corners with six seconds left in the round?

FibreOptic

I have something to say. Brewster's chin is too strong for his own good. If he keeps taking beatings like this, he is going to end up with some form of brain injury.

gattifan24
04-02-2006, 01:29 AM
Yeah I felt Sergei ran away for too much of the round to win it though I concede the threw a good amount in the 2nd half of the round but I felt on the whole round-he played it safe and lost the round. Didn't matter though since my card needed 2 knockdowns to force a draw

Yeah, i thought it was very odd...

On second check I think there might have been a discrepacny with Showtimes watch and ringside watch that got the ref confused, but yes at first I thought it was a fixed fight when that happened. The reason I say this is lateer round there was 5 seconds left on Showtimes watch and the bell rang.

I know man! I got a little over excited when I started this thread but what made this such a great fight was how tough Lamon is! How long has it been since we've seen two great chins like this? This was a total slugfest besides a little bit of jabbing by Lyakhovich. This fight deserves a rematch. I don't know if these guys could put up such a great fight again knowing how bad they must be hurting right now.

i agree they both took real good shots there were times were i thought the fight was going to be over for one of them....the hw div. has not had a good fight like this in a long, long, long time probablly since tua vs. ike .....this is def. the front runner for foy so far ..

fought at a slower pace...maybe Lewis vs Vitali...yes Lewis was out of shape and both men are just large and pretty slow...but it was very good for their size...both men were holding on...I had it even while most had Vitali by a round

I think it is just because Sergei and Brewster were not as significant. This fight caught me by surprise. I was like, "oh ****, they are fighting." Both were getting hit hard. Nevertheless, this fight, if it were bigger names, would be an instant classic. It was that good.

Bowe was not that big a name at heavyweight when they fought. He was a former sparring partner of Evander's and Holy was expected to walk right though him.

Anyways....back to the topic.

The fight itself was better than Liakahovic v.s. Brewster because there was even more drama, and the punches landed were so furious and at such an astonishing pace for heavyweights it was unreal.

Name some heavyweight fights that were better in recent history.

Reccently, Brian Minto vs Vinny Maddalone, Beck vs Barrett, Mesi vs Jirov,

Going a bit farther back: Lewis vs Vitali, Tua vs Ibeabucchi, Grant vs Golota, Rahman vs Sanders

90's: Tyson Holyfield, Lewis Mercer, Mercer Holyfield, Morrison Ruddock,

The list goes on.

Bottom line: the title of this thread is ridiculous, and there have been a ton of better fights since the 1st Bowe Holyfield fight.

I'd say Beck v.s. Barrett was about equal to this fight in discussion. Similar circumstances, highly entertaining, both guys faced adversity.

I think since alot of us were starving for a real heavyweight fight we began to savor it a little too much.
