View Full Version : Superbowl Picks - It's Showtime!
Soundtraveler 01-27-2005, 05:37 AM Well my friends, here we are at the end of another season of the second best sport in the world!
So here we go, it's time for armchair quarterbacks to call it - who is going to win this very evenly matched Superbowl?!
Logic tells me it's going to be the Patriots getting yet another ring, but I have to say, I really like the Eagles chances in this one!
As a matter of fact I am willing to bet 5 million points  on the Eagles winning it, no point spread stuff - just a straight up bet on the winner.
Who wants it?!
neils7147933 01-27-2005, 06:28 AM I'll take it.
Soundtraveler 01-27-2005, 07:03 AM I'll take it.
All right Neils! You've got it my friend, good luck!
I am really looking forward to the game, and I may just be going to it, my buddy Larry Michaels has invited me, but I don't know if I can make it, as I have a fight that weekend too, but if I can swing it I will be in Jacksonville!

Neils beat me to it. Can I get in on some of that action? I've got 1,080,000. Are we on?
dodge 01-27-2005, 10:09 AM PATS BABY!!! Should be a good Super Bowl.
Explosivo 01-27-2005, 10:12 AM I would like to see the Eagles take it, but in a big game you can go against the Pats. If I was betting on the game I go with Pats, but I would like to see another team win it.
Bombardier 01-27-2005, 10:24 AM I gotta go with the Pats 17-10. Think it will be a low scoring game. Ultimately the Eagles will miss T.O. You need to have a lot of weapons to punch through the Pats secondary.
dodge 01-27-2005, 10:30 AM The Pats Linebackers are so good.
The Pats Linebackers are so good.
....I think this is a classic superbowl blowout in the making. The Eagles will struggle on the big stage and Belichek will be at his coaching best. I'm gonna say 45-17 as the final score with New England getting a couple of touchdowns from their defense.

Damn...that would be awful, but it could happen. Hasn't been a big SuperBore blowout in a while. Last one I can remember is the Broncos over the Falcons. I guess the Ravens over the Giants counts too, though a Ravens-style blowout is like a 14-0 win.
jabsRstiff 01-27-2005, 01:34 PM The Eagles have a good chance of winning.....but I'm expecing them to fall short.
I just hope Andy Reid is gonna go for it.
Philadelphians don't want to see them playing conservative on either side of the ball.
Make a go of of it.....& if the aggressiveness costs us the game, so be it.

Cowher blew it against the Pats when he didn't go for the touchdown on fourth and goal late in the game. The Pats will hold onto the ball for minutes at a time when they're trying to eat the clock. You gotta score majors when you have the chance against them.

T.O. is playing, I believe, he sure seems to think so and the coach did say he would be playing in that interview he did with Terry Bradshaw on the winners podium right after last weeks game.
This game should remain close throughout, I really think it will come down a turnover, hell, it may just be decided in overtime - which would really be cool!

Oh man, I was so ticked off last year when that Panthers kicker shanked the kickoff at the end of the game so that Brady and the gang got it on the 40. I thought for sure that game was going into overtime.
T.O.'s doctor doesn't want him to play but he's insisting on it anyway. May mean he's not 100%.
Soundtraveler 01-28-2005, 04:16 AM Sure Sonny I'll, cover that one too, straight up - no point spread. Good Luck buddy...
SonnyBGood 01-28-2005, 09:47 AM I hope the patriots lose. That's all we here about and their games are the only one's they show in New Hampshire. I like Donovan McNabb.
oldgringo 01-28-2005, 12:44 PM Pats will take this game 24-21...or something close to that. Expect a couple of scores from McNabb and maybe one from their defense. Brady will toss a couple TD's and Dillon will run for one. Sorry kids...no last second heroics from Vinatieri this time.
bigdlb12 01-28-2005, 01:59 PM It will be a tie and go into infinite overtime
Boxhead2012 01-28-2005, 02:19 PM Eagles-21

pimpin2 01-29-2005, 11:57 AM Eagles will win 20-17
m00ks 01-29-2005, 12:01 PM I would love eagles to win, but Pats are gonna bring it home...again.
The Fix 01-29-2005, 03:19 PM eagles shock the pats 35-17. brady is not going to get anything done and dilon will rush for less than 40 yards. its a stretch but i hate the pats

A "stretch" huh, if the game goes that bad for the Patriots, I'm going to watch the "Weather Channel" because it will be snowing in hell!

.....Yeah no ****!!!
Soundtraveler 01-30-2005, 06:53 AM The key to the game will be how well the Eagles can defend against the offensive arsenal that Brady has at his disposal. I really think if it is a low scoring game the Patriots will have the advantage, but if it goes into a shooting match the Eagles may just shock everyone and pull out the win....
I like Brady, he is not just cool, he is absolutely ice under pressure in big games - nothing gets to him, he is like Joe Montana was back in the 80's.
But McNabb has played long enough and paid enough dues to warrant him getting a ring. It will be all the sweeter if he wins it WITHOUT "T.O. the mouth" playing in the game though....
SonnyG8R 01-30-2005, 10:50 AM As impressive as Brady has been up to this point in his career, I really think it is too early to start comparing him to Joe Montana.

How? He plays almost the same way with a flair for stepping up in the biggest games of his career. His numbers are actually BETTER at this point in his career. Kobe to Jordan isn't a good comparison IMO but this one is actually legit.

Yes, "at this point in his career" it's hard to argue with 2 super bowl MVP's. But he's still got a long, loooooong way to go before he's considered one of the greatest qb's in nfl history the way Montana is.
trinidadpr87 01-30-2005, 04:31 PM Who wants to bet i got 5 mil. on the pats.
Soundtraveler 01-30-2005, 10:09 PM I really think Brady has Montana style, he has that touch pass that you can't teach, and he will look off the defenders just like Montana, who would check off 2 or 3 receivers, all the while knowing he was going to throw to the 1st one. It's his whole style of play, and the way he releases the ball that to me at least, looks like a young Joe Montana.

....Montana had a ton of come from behind wins in the closing minutes of games to go along with his superbowl wins. In his heyday he was also more mobile than Brady and could run well enough to find the open guy at the last minute or scramble for a first. He was also in an era with super teams. That guy won alot of games by himself and not so much with the help of his team. Brady is a team player and his supporting cast is better(believe it or not). A much better defense than San Fran in Joe's day, better special teams, equal or beter running game, damn good receiving core that I feel is deeper than what San Fran had, better offensive line, and IMHO better coaching. Brady can't hold Montana's jock right now. Talk to me in 5 years and we can realisticly have this convo. He shouldn't even be mentioned in the same breath with Montana and if I keep hearing people support this crazy **** I'm gonna have to root for the hated Eagles to smack his ass down and for all of this talk to go away. :)
boxingexpert 01-31-2005, 03:36 AM New England would win it and it won't be close this time. They can run, pass and have a great defense. There is no way New England will lose :( .
Soundtraveler 01-31-2005, 06:05 AM [QUOTE=pbds]IMHO better coaching.QUOTE]
Are you saying that the Patriots' Coach now is better than the 49ers Coach Bill Walsh, the guy who invented the offensive system that Pats' use as a pattern on offense to this day?!
--That's Crazy
trinidadpr87 02-01-2005, 03:25 PM Who do you guys think will be the mvp?
oldgringo 02-01-2005, 03:33 PM Who do you guys think will be the mvp?
Pats - Brady or Dillon
Eagles - McNabb or Westbrook
jedihillis 02-01-2005, 03:52 PM I don't really care too much who wins this, but, i think I'll pull for the eagles. Just because it's been a long time coming for them. The Patriots are a freakin hard team to beat though. that's for darn sure.
Soundtraveler 02-01-2005, 05:54 PM Pats - Brady or Dillon

Good safe calls, I think it will be Westbrook or McNabb myself...

lmao, you read my mind. I was reading pbds's post and generally agreeing until he said the Pats have a better coach     Bill Belichick better than Bill Walsh? That's ****ing NUTS!!!
Walsh might be the best NFL coach of all time.
SonnyG8R 02-01-2005, 06:14 PM Who do you guys think will be the mvp?
I'm going to go out on a limb and say Adam Vinetari. He'll kick 3 fg's including the game winner for the Pats.

Set to retire?
- JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) _ Running back Emmitt Smith is expected to announce his retirement Thursday, according to several media reports.
Smith, a free agent, will make the announcement three days before the Super Bowl in Jacksonville, Fla., according to Tuesday reports by ESPN.com, The Dallas Morning News and the Fort Worth (Texas) Star-Telegram.
ESPN.com cited ``confidants'' of the star running back that it did not identify; the newspaper reports, posted on the papers' Web sites Tuesday, cited unidentified sources.
Contacted by the Morning News, Smith, 35, said: ``Did you see my year last year? Do you think I'm ready to retire?''
Smith rushed for 937 yards and nine touchdowns this season for Arizona, his second year with the Cardinals. Smith played 13 years with the Dallas Cowboys, the team with which he won three Super Bowls.
He said Monday that he wanted to retire as a member of the Cowboys.
Smith, the league's most valuable player in 1993, holds the career rushing touchdown record with 115. He has 18,355 yards 164 TDs overall.
Neither the Cardinals nor Cowboys had any announcements planned regarding Smith.
Former Cowboys safety Darren Woodson told the Morning News that Smith had been thinking of retirement for weeks.
``I've known about it for a while,'' Woodson told the Star-Telegram. ``I didn't know it was out yet.''
Asked about Smith possibly retiring, former teammate Troy Aikman said: ``I hate to speculate on it. At some point it will end, maybe this year or the next. Emmitt's had a terrific career. I'm sure the last two years have been difficult for Emmitt in Arizona.
``One thing in this game, when you play on a team that has been together for as long as we were in Dallas, and then you lose guys, it takes a toll.''
Smith was lauded by several players in this year's Super Bowl as a role model, a man who conducted himself the right way on and off the field.
``It would be a great loss for the league,'' New England running back Corey Dillon said. ``I'm going to miss him. I looked up to him, watching him win Super Bowls.''
Added Patriots linebacker Ted Johnson: ``He's such a low-key, classy individual. And what he's been able to achieve hasn't been given just due. He's such an ambassador of the game. Football's been good to him, and I hope he reciprocates it by staying close to the game. I hope he doesn't completely walk away; I hope he doesn't fade away.''

.....Yeah I would love to see him go out a Cowboy. I wouldn't even mind if he actually played his last year with them with the full understanding that he is Julius Jones backup. We could use a veteran running back behind Jones that can still play and give us production in spurts.

IN a close game where Philly just runs out of time.
Bill Bellichecks time management skills are super.
Soundtraveler 02-02-2005, 03:57 PM I really think this is going to be one of the "great" Superbowls, I think it will be much closer than some sports broadcast teams are calling for.
What is everyone doing this sunday? As for myself, I am grilling some cajun sausage, a half dozen or so polish sausages too, a rack of babyback ribs and I am cooking up some of my world famous chili that will have people beggin' for rolaids and tums!
I have the projector out, so the game will be on a 12' x 12' screen! Huge Friggin' Picture!

Soundtraveler 02-04-2005, 04:32 AM Just 3 Days until the big game, and now Brady has a death in the family and their coach said he has never seen Brady so withdrawn from the team - hmmm, could be a distraction for him unless he turns around and has a Brett Favre moment and turns in the game of his life as Favre did after his Dad died....

The women was like 94 years old. It couldn't have come as that much of a surprise. I'm sure he is sad but I doubt he's distraught. I think it will motivate him to dedicate the game to her if anything.
I had a thought on the whole Terrel Owens thing. That ankle is gonna be sore and prone to being a problem if it gets hit hard early. How long do you guys think it will take Rodney Harrison to zero in on that ankle? I see him taking a dive at that ankle on the first offensive series in which Owens sees action.
Soundtraveler 02-04-2005, 02:33 PM I don't think it is as bad as you may think, he was walking on it in just 3 weeks, so I think while it will be sore, he will get some passes thrown his way and I see him catching a touchdown or even two if he stays on the outside and doesn't get hit on a crossing pattern. It's the open field stuff that worries me, but if he is just getting hit and knocked out of bounds - he should be able to go all day. I do look for him to have a decoy role in the game as well.
Harrison is a bigtime hitter for sure, but he is more of a headhunter, I don't think he will zero in on the ankle, but who knows - it's the SUPERBOWL!
joeboxer 02-04-2005, 02:42 PM You can't count out the Pats, you cant count out the Eagles, the only thing thats going down for sure is a big ****ing bowl of Nachos and a twelve pack of budweiser. Thats right budweiser, screw you miller light!
Dempsey_Roll02 02-05-2005, 03:19 AM i would love to pick the eagles with all the disappointment they've had but the pats are tough to beat. I would'nt bet against new england and they have Corey Dillon now which makes them even more formidable on offense with a legit run threat. Guys, will donovan mcnabb scrambling and running around help the eagles or not especially with the patriot linebackers?
