Jose Luis Castillo vs. Diego Corrales.

I am so pissed this fight isnt happening. Personally I think JLC would terrorize Chico. I like both fighters, but I think that Chico is just a little overrated. He was getting easily beaten by Acelino Freitas until Popo tired himself out. JLC by mid to late stoppage.

I also think JLC would have stopped Corrales. And after looking at Corrales' chubby self on espn its no wonder he pulled out.

Chico would stretch Castillo. The reason I say it because I watched Castillo's last 2 fights closely. He didn't really dominiate Lazcano, he outworked him to pull the victory by winning the last 3 rounds. In that fight Lazcano landed great straight rights & some solid left hooks. He just didn't have the power to make Castillo respect him. Castillo was buzzed on a couple of occasions with his fight with Casa. He even admitted to it after the fight. Casa landed some solid punches & we all know he's not known to be a puncher. With those fights in mind I think Corrales would KO because he hits harder than both Lazcano & Casa. If Chico lands some of the shots that either of those fighters landed, he gonna be hurt bad.

The official word is that Showtime canned the fight in favor of a different opponent for Castillo. It wouldn't surprise me if they are protecting one or both of them from each other, trying to get one more decent viewership for a fight each of them has before letting them at each other.

At least, that's what I'm praying for.

Also, I think this is a pretty close fight. As slow as JLC looked against Cassamayor, I've never seen him seriously hurt, and think Corrales would have a tough time putting him out, but it could happen. Combine that with Corrales' chinny tendencies and you have the makings of a pretty even fight. Irresistable force with a weak chin vs. the immovable, but plodding object

whoever would have won should have given casa a rematch. none of the two fighters wins over him were convincing and imo he went at least 2-1. i thought he beat castllo when they fought

I really like your analysis man. I wasn't sure how to feel about the matchup, but after reading you post, I think I agree with you. You made some pretty good points and you've swayed me. Corrales would have won the fight had it come off.

Good point about Showtime protecting the two, that's definitely the case. I have to say, while I really want to see the fight, neither guy can really afford the loss right now. Hopefully they'll pick up a couple of good wins, and meet later this year.

I heard the official word was Chico kept telling everyone he would sign, the contract sat on his desk forever and he never did. Therefore fight is off.

JLC would have made it a tough fight but i think Corrales patient power would have won him th fight. I was never convinced how hard he hit until i watched a few of his recent fights, very impressive. His style is alot better too.

Castillo would win a late stoppage...I can picture Diego crying out to his corner is his ***** ass voice "no" just like he did against PBF.

Say what you want about Castillo, slow, plodding etc...he gave Juan Lazcano the worst beating of his career and Juan LAzcano can flat out fight!

Granted he started slow against Casamyor but when he decided to turn it on he gave Casamayor by far the worse beating of his career...I was shocked that Joel made it out of the last couple rounds. Sure the fight was close but the war was being dominated by Castillo. In my mind if Diego fought Joel ten times he would lose 7 of them...the way JL beat Joel
I seriously doubt Casamayor wants to see him again.

Corrales has a great punch and has shown that he can box when he has too (Casamyor 2). However has Diego ever won a shootout, JL has been winning shootouts for a long time, his chin is as prepared as it can be and sure Diego is going to buzz him a few times but Diego is going to get buzzed too and when it all comes down to it how can you not go with the tougher of the two guys, how can you not go with the guy who fight in and fight out goes to war in the ring...

Diego is a really good fighter but he is not the killer many think...his corner will stop this fight in the 11th..both men will look like hamburger but the experience factor and the fact that both men are fighting JL's preferred fight will most likely tell the tale.
