Larry said a Casino is puting up money for them to fight, and that family of Foreman called to say he wants to fight, he was just on Fox News.
Kimmy 01-26-2005, 04:40 PM Erm...it can`t be a rematch. They never fought!
Sir_Jose 01-26-2005, 04:44 PM Yeah Holmes was on the radio out here talking about how he still wants to fight Foreman. He just needs to let it go.
prime for prime I would favor Holmes sharp straight punches against the wide punching Foreman
Marjoh 01-26-2005, 04:48 PM Can you imagine Vitali in his late forties to mid fifties still saying he wants a rematch with Lewis?
Just joking...or am I?
Warrior Spirit 01-26-2005, 05:18 PM I think the world of both Larry Holmes and George Foreman but Larry needs to give this whole thing a rest. Both men should bask in the glory of their accomplishments and feel good about the fact that they are both boxing legends.
Johnny_Rocket 01-26-2005, 06:30 PM What are you serious!!! Neither of these guys has anything to prove. They both were great fighters and to see them slug it out in a boring match would put a major dent in their careers. I wanna remember these guys for what they were not what they are now.
SweetScience 01-26-2005, 07:00 PM Grumpy old men.
fist-of-fury 01-26-2005, 08:19 PM To save boxing?? C'mon, guys! Holmes and Foreman are history. And while they're legends in their own right, people will not take their fight as seriously as the prime fighters of today. People will watch them fight, yes, but only as great entertainers, not serious contenders!
Toller 01-26-2005, 08:27 PM This 'proposed' fight would be bad for boxing. Let's focus on the future!
Zaphod 01-26-2005, 09:33 PM Yeah, these guys are both in their 50s. I love both of them but who wants to see old men circling each other for 12 rounds? If this actually happened and was hyped it would do more to damage the credibility of hwt boxing than save it.

I think for everyone when I say: No ****ing thank you.
jack_the_rippuh 01-26-2005, 10:24 PM Man that fight would look bad..
jayschre 01-26-2005, 11:20 PM I don't know what's worse the fact that this fight could actually take place, or the fact that I'd actually give either one a decent shot at beating alot of the so-called "contenders" in the present heavyweight class, **** I'd pick Larry Holmes to probably beat Ruiz by 2 or 3 points! Sad indeed!!!!!!!!
The Phantom Menace 01-26-2005, 11:23 PM This wouldn't be a rematch because they never have fought each other which is a travesty. If they do fight now it's too late for anyone to really be interested.
Zaphod 01-27-2005, 01:16 AM There was never a period where they were both active and considered top contenders. Holmes took the title in 1978, which is right around when Foreman first retired, and Holmes was pretty much done after his fight with Holyfield, which was just around the time Foreman was coming back. The window of opportunity for them to fight was narrow and each of them had bigger potential fights.
Had they fought around, say, 1979-1982, assuming George still would have been close to prime then, I'd say Holmes more or less does to him what Ali did. He had the jab and the great straight right just like Ali, and a good chin. He would have stayed away and put him to bed in the late rounds after George tired out. George might catch him mid fight, but if he could take that Shavers right and keep coming, I can't imagine George being able to keep him down.

Zaphod 01-27-2005, 01:16 AM Sorry, double post
The Fix 01-27-2005, 01:31 AM in their primes it would have been a hell of a fight. not even the current batch of heavys would lose to these guys that are far past their prime. foreman did win he has 45 but ten years have past.and holmes doesnt posess the power that allowed foreman to win in his return.
adeelr 01-27-2005, 01:47 AM its not a very good idea...both these guyz went out gracefully, you live once and you die once..once you are gone there is no coming back..so neither of these should set foot in the ring with gloves on..
