View Full Version : Who had a better chin, Mosley or Chop-Chop?
SquareCircle 03-14-2006, 07:14 PM opinions... factor in their level of opposition with your pick, if you don't mind.
im voting chop chop, because he's been in with tougher people than Shane imo. And he's caught some bombs and I've only seen him take voluntary knees.
dansweeney 03-14-2006, 07:16 PM not even close, mosley has a good beard. chop chop is a *****
-GBGQ- 03-14-2006, 07:17 PM Sugar Shane has fought way out of his weight class and has only been dropped in one fight. Mosley/Forrest 1.
By the way, Sugar Shane has NEVER been stopped.
Speaks for itself.
SquareCircle 03-14-2006, 07:17 PM corley fought tougher fighters and never went down, unlike shane, but ok
Roberto_Roldan_ 03-14-2006, 07:20 PM Corely cuz he never went down.
-GBGQ- 03-14-2006, 07:21 PM Corely cuz he never went down.
See the Mayweather and Cotto fight.
GunStar 03-14-2006, 07:23 PM Corely cuz he never went down.He was down against Mayweather twice. I do agree Corely chin is good, but Mosely chin is also good. It's a tough call for me.
Square....I see what you're getting at.
But lets keep things in perspective.....Chop Chop was hammered by Floyd and Cotto and went down 11 times between the two fights. Yes he did take a knee.....and was not necessarily knocked down...but that's still a knockdown and he was hurt.
Shane's chin is made of some sort of space aged steel. He's been hammered by plenty of guys and the only times he went down...were in the first fight with Forrest.
I'd have to say Shane's chin is better.

I'd have to say Shane's chin is better. Not 11 times, I don't remember Cotto knocking Corley down 9 times. I think he also went down twice against Cotto, but he really did took a knee. Cotto hurt him more with the body punch.
I also think Mosley's chin is overrated. Both guys have good chins, but not great in my opinion.

Yeah I was exxagerating. 7 to be exact...he went down 5 times against Cotto.
-GBGQ- 03-14-2006, 07:58 PM I also think Mosley's chin is overrated. Both guys have good chins, but not great in my opinion.
I have to disagree a little here.
Mosley isn't the hardest guy to hit. He's taken big shots from Oscar, Vernon, Vargas, Winky, etc... And other than 1 fight has stood up to it all. Mosley is an extremely durable fighter with, considering how he has given up size on all of his big name opponents, a really good chin.
AintGottaClue 03-14-2006, 08:01 PM werent most of them KDs in the cotto fight body shot KDs? i know the first round was a flash KD when chop chop was off balance
Easy-E 03-14-2006, 08:02 PM mosley
fights with dlh, vargas, forrest and others and never stopped.
didnt zab drop corley in the 2nd?
-GBGQ- 03-14-2006, 10:15 PM Everyone vote!
Mr. Ryan 03-14-2006, 10:21 PM I think Sugar Shanes chin is very good, but that Chop Chop has beaten up more in his career. Sugar Shane took alot of heavy shots from Forrest, De La Hoya, Rivera, Vargas, Molina and others yet has only been down twice. He has a great chin. Only Forrest has ever wobbled him.
Bozo_no no 03-14-2006, 10:24 PM corley fought tougher fighters and never went down, unlike shane, but ok
Shane's fought Delahoya, Forrest, Wright, and Vargas.
Those guys bang harder than the likes of the guys Chop Chop has faced at 140.
Mosley by a long shot.
-GBGQ- 03-14-2006, 10:25 PM vote in the poll guys.
thanks
mic573 03-14-2006, 10:32 PM Mosley has the better chin. He's only been down twice against Forrest in the first fight.
Corley has been dropped by Judah, Mayweather and Cotto that I know of.
oldgringo 03-14-2006, 10:49 PM Mosely easily. He's fought more dangerous competition, much bigger guys on many occasions.
Poll speaks for itself. And of course this is not to say that Chop Chop has a bad chin or anything.
GunStar 03-14-2006, 10:50 PM Shane's fought Delahoya, Forrest, Wright, and Vargas.
Those guys bang harder than the likes of the guys Chop Chop has faced at 140.
Mosley by a long shot. Will I don't know about Wright being a big banger. I know he was a 154 pounder, but still I don't consider Wright a big banger. I know Wright power is a little underrated, but the way he fights, he doesn't throw big bombs, because he doesn't want to get countered.
Also Vargas is not a big banger anymore, especially when Mosley fought him. Forrest did hurt Mosley at 147 with the knockdown & Forrest power is good, but not great. Oscar good power at 147, but great power at 135.
Also Cotto & Judah P4P wise hit very hard.
Both Mosley & Chop Chop had good chins P4P wise, but I don't consider them to have great chins.
If we had an option of even, I would've voted even. Very similar chins in my opinion.

Wright's not a big banger, and I didn't even think anyone would need to comment on that. Common sense. He is however, bigger than anyone Corley has ever faced.
And don't tell me Vargas isn't a big puncher anymore. He's a bigger hitter than anyone Corley's faced. Hands down.
Mosley has a great Chin. He's up from 135 trading punches with guys at 154. He's never been knocked out, and has only been down twice.
Corley has been dropped several times, and has been stopped.
Memorex 03-14-2006, 10:58 PM http://gamma.applepics.com/5/userfiles/4162be3f26582.gif
the_truth_1984 03-14-2006, 10:59 PM While Corley does have a very solid chin it's not as good as Mosley who has fought from 135 to 154 and has only been down twice against Forrest who is a decent puncher and a natural welterweight.
Bozo_no no 03-14-2006, 11:00 PM That clip speaks for itself. 9 out of 10 guys wouldn't have got up. That was all chin and heart. Reminded me of Ward getting up from that show Gatti dropped him with in the 3rd round of their 2nd fight.
GunStar 03-14-2006, 11:01 PM Wright's not a big banger, and I didn't even think anyone would need to comment on that. Common sense. He is however, bigger than anyone Corley has ever faced.

Corley has been dropped several times, and has been stopped.Mosley was also bigger when he fought Wright, people do move up & that's not a good excuse for a chin.
Vargas use to be big banger, but I don't see it anymore. Lol, maybe he needs a little more steroids in his system.
Corley was stopped with a body punch & I did question that stoppage against Cotto. Also Mayorga has been stopped & I think Mayorga's chin is way better then Mosley's or Corley's chin.
Bozo_no no 03-14-2006, 11:05 PM Mosley was also bigger when he fought Wright, people do move up & that's not a good excuse for a chin.

Corley was stopped with a body punch & I did question that stoppage against Cotto. Also Mayorga has been stopped & I think Mayorga's chin is way better then Mosley's or Corley's chin.
Mosley is not anywhere near a natural 154lber. The fact he went up that high and trades shots speaks for itself.
And Vargas is a big guy, and a powerfull hitter. More powerfull than anyone Corley's fought. Period.
Easy-E 03-14-2006, 11:05 PM Mosley was also bigger when he fought Wright, people do move up & that's not a good excuse for a chin.

corley would have been stopped anyways, even if that stoppage was premature.
after seeing the tito fight, i cant help feel as though mayos chin is overrated
GunStar 03-14-2006, 11:13 PM corley would have been stopped anyways, even if that stoppage was premature.
after seeing the tito fight, i cant help feel as though mayos chin is overratedYea being hit cleanly like 500 time by Tito is a overrated chin. Forrest couldn't even hurt Mayorga, but he almost killed Mosley.
Bozo_no no 03-14-2006, 11:18 PM Yea being hit cleanly like 500 time by Tito is a overrated chin. Forrest couldn't even hurt Mayorga, but he almost killed Mosley.
Mayorga is much naturally bigger than Mosley and Corley. That's an unfair compairison.
after seeing the tito fight, i cant help feel as though mayos chin is overrated
I don't think so.
He dropped his hands and let Trinidad load up on his best power punch. He took one, and mocked him.
His chin is made of space aged steel.
GunStar 03-14-2006, 11:21 PM Mayorga is much naturally bigger than Mosley and Corley. That's an unfair compairison.Don't tell me you think Mosley's chin is as good or better then Mayorga.
Bozo_no no 03-14-2006, 11:27 PM Don't tell me you think Mosley's chin is as good or better then Mayorga.
If Mayorg's chin is a 10, Mosley's is an 8 - 9.
You're compairing them directly is unfair, because Mayorga is much bigger than Mosley naturally.
GunStar 03-14-2006, 11:32 PM If Mayorg's chin is a 10, Mosley's is an 8 - 9.
You're compairing them directly is unfair, because Mayorga is much bigger than Mosley naturally.I don't know why you keep mentioning size with chin. If that's the case, then Toney has the greatest chin of all time, he's fighting guys now that is almost 100 LBS heavier then his natural weight & hasn't been down yet in the HW division.
Bozo_no no 03-14-2006, 11:36 PM I don't know why you keep mentioning size with chin.
This is why:
Forrest couldn't even hurt Mayorga, but he almost killed Mosley.
Mayorga's bigger, so he took the shots better.
When you're making a comparison like that using guys who are different in size, it's flawed.
GunStar 03-14-2006, 11:46 PM This is why:
Mayorga's bigger, so he took the shots better.

But don't get carried away with this natural weight thing, people get older & get heavier, that's natural. Right now Mosley considers himself a true welterweight, he says that is his natural weight. I think fighting in the same weight class like Hopkins did is much harder thing to do, then a guy that moves up in weight.
It's natural to gain weight over the years, I personally always been shape, but keeping the same weight that I had when I was 25 is a hard thing to do. It's a natural thing & when a boxer moves up he gets too much credit for it, but the fact is he needed to move up.
MachineGunFunk 03-14-2006, 11:50 PM Bozo, you're sooooo cool. How many videos did you sell today? Raking in those big bucks in you parent's basement.
So what is your prognosis Bozo for a loser like you? Getting laid is my prescription for a nerd like you.

That doesn't change the fact comparing him to Mayorga is flawed because of their natural difference in size.
Somone's natural size does effect their ability to take a shot when the venture farther up in weight.
To go back to the discussion at hand, Mosley's chin is top 5 - 10 in the sport for sure. He went from 135 - 154 and traded shots with guys much bigger than him his whole career.
The results of the poll speaks for itself.

Account # 12?
Nothing like walking home from work to come to a site your actions have shown over and over you're not mature enough to belong to.
Grab a life junior. You're pathetic.

The results of the poll speaks for itself. But did I vote for Corley??? I said both Corley & Mosley has good chins & are about even.
Of course Mosley will win any kinda poll against a guy like Corley.
But for anyone say that Corley chin isn't good, then they really haven't seen much of Corley.
Both guys good chins, but not great.

I don't see anyone saying Corely's chin isn't good, it's just not on the level of Mosley's.
Mosley has one of the best chins in the business. I'd say that's great.

SquareCircle 03-15-2006, 11:11 AM bah!!!!!!!!!!! ****roaches..all of you!
TheEvilSaint 03-15-2006, 11:17 AM i voted for chop chop on accident...
SquareCircle 03-15-2006, 11:33 AM it's wild how people think shane's opposition was better than Corley's. Mayweather Jr. counts for 2 of Shane's notable opponents...
Shane's fought Delahoya, Forrest, Wright, and Vargas.
Those guys bang harder than the likes of the guys Chop Chop has faced at 140.
It's just that IMO, DLH & Forrest (Forrest, really) are the only real big bangers Shane ever faced. Vargas' wasnt worth a **** when they fought, and Wright isn't even a puncher. I take nothin' away from Shane though, Forrest was a tough contender. It's just that Shane has been dropped, nailed hard enough on the chin to actually give way and fall down, dazed, on the canvas. While Corley has taken hella punishment and been all ****ed up, and managed to keep it together, hold himself together and throw that knee down rather than crumble to the canvas. Of course he never got caught with a Forrest uppercut while he was dazed either, but still. I still think ChopChop's chin is superior, because Mayweather Jr., the '03 Judah, and Cotto are more dangerous than Forrest, DLH, Wright and a washed up Vargas. While Forrest may have a harder punch, Chopchop's opponents had better delivery methods, and were much higher up on the skill ladder.(esp MW Jr...)
jabsRstiff 03-15-2006, 11:50 AM Corley has faced two guys who are the hardest lb4lb hitters out of both he & Mosley's opponents....& that's Judah & Randall Bailey.
Bailey is actually the biggest hitter faced by either, though certainly not anywhere near as good an all-around fighter as most Mosley foes.
Mosley appears to be harder to hurt than is Corley...of course, Shane's being a plain better fighter has a lot to do with that.
You can say Shane has faced bigger opponents, & that is something to consider.
But...remember that Corley faced a Cotto who weighed 150+ the night they fought.
Tough call.....lots of ways to look at it.
Easy-E 03-15-2006, 11:51 AM I don't think so.
