Who do you think had the fastest hands p4p? Heavyweights that is.

I pick Tyson because he was small, was build huge at that size, and had incredible punching power with speed i've never seen before with that kind of power. So at that size, i believe he had the fastest hands p4p.

by far would be Chris Bryd, although he is not as powerful as Ali, he is much quicker. ALso i'd have to put Holmes in there.

so? tyson was only about 5 or 6lbs. bigger than ali, but ali clearly had the faster hands if you watch them fight. so it's ali, and a close second would be mike tyson.

I dont agree. They were not the same size because Tyson was like 4 inches shorter and nearly 10 lb bigger than Ali. Ali had faster hands, but p4p i think its Tyson.

height doesn't matter cause of people's different builds. forget the height. ali is about 212-213, tyson is about 217-218. so tyson is about 5lbs heavier. if you watch ali take out london in 1966 while having him on the ropes, you could hardly count exactly how many punches hit him, that's how fast it is. tyson is fast, but ali is faster, and since 5 lbs. is not that much, ali is p4p faster. tyson is a close second.

The diffirence is 10 lbs. NOT 5, its 10. And height does matter. If you have a 5,11/230 with almost the same handspeed as a 6,1/210 HW, the 5,11 fighter is faster p4p. My point is, Tyson was huge for his height and he he THAT much speed with it while Ali was not build THAT big for his size. Think about it.

I was giving an example. And you should relax man. Don't be mad at people who don't put Ali #1(Talking about the guy with the Byrd comment). Ali had the fastest hands ever for a HW imo. But things like p4p are debatable.

I saw some floyd patterson fights on sports classic and he looked really really fast but then again its hard to judge this type of thing.

However I would like to say this, I think Tyson in his prime 1986-89 had the best head movement of any heavyweight I ever saw..

The Muhammad Ali of 60ís was the fastest heavyweight ever. In the May 5, 1969 Sports Illustrated, Aliís jab was measured with an omegascope. Aliís jab, it was found, could smash a balsa board 16.5 inches away in 19/100 of a second. It actually covered the distance in 4/100 of a second, which is the blink of an eye. Jimmy Jacobs, who owned the worldís largest collection of fight films, said that on film tests with a synchronizer Aliís jab was faster than that of Sugar Ray Robinson. Jacobs contended that Ali was not only the fastest heavyweight, but also the fastest fighter he ever saw on film. - Monte Cox, most historians agree... they tested and watched all fighters, and concluded Ali was the fastest followed by Joe Louis and Floyd patterson. Ali is a notch above Tyson without a doubt, P4P the fastest hands without a doubt

Get the F out of here. I don't know what you're saying but Ali didn't use the bobbing and weaving style. Patterson had the best head movement ever, untill Tyson came along. In his prime, he moved his head like no one else has ever done.

Tyson had the best head movement ever, and he has the fastest hands p4p, and maybe even quickest feet p4p.

If does matter if you think about it. a 218 man who's only 5,11(Some people say he was around 5,10) is a very strong man. He's build huge at that size and that makes him faster p4p. Ali was pretty much ripped, he was not buffed. And he was very tall. Do the math.

Heckler
03-15-2006, 08:07 AM
How does height become part of a POUND FOR POUND handspeed discussion? Tyson in his prime was around 218 pounds opposed to Alis 212. Ali definately was a notch above Tyson in regard to handspeed. Ali fastest p4p.

nah, i think muhammad ali's head movement was even better.

I think Ali was more elusive in his prime than Tyson was but that is also largely based on his fighting style which was the classical boxer/puncher. Its easier to avoid punchs when your boxing and keeping your distance from fighters than if your attempting to get inside of them because of your smaller size and arm reach i.e. Tyson.

Dempsey 1919
03-15-2006, 12:57 PM

not really, because ali had longer arms than tyson, so they could have been the same size, maybe.

wrong. ali sometimes stood there and just moved his head out of the way of punches at blinding speed!

but height has nothing to do with it. it doesn't matter how strong you look, it mattrs how strong you are, and ali's muscle mass was definetely comparable to tyson's.
