Miguel Cotto showed why he is the best young fighter in the game tonight as he was spectacular in stopping undefeated Kelson Pinto in 6 rounds. This was billed as a grudge match as Cotto was defeated twice by Pinto in the amateurs.

In a fight which didnt have any high expectations for drama, it turned into a very good brawl. Daniel Santos defeats Antonio Margarito by way of a 9 round split decision. The scores were 86-85 for Santos, 86-85 Margarito and 87-84 Santos.

The first round started with Santos slugging instead of boxing as everyone expected. Santos came into the ring weight 170 pounds and showed the weight difference as he rocked Margarito bad in the first round with a left cross. Margarito adjusted well in the second round and came back with a heavy amount of body and head damage.

The third round saw Santos come back midway with great combos to back Margarito up. Santos got rocked by a right hand from Margarito but was able to get out of trouble when the two men battled against the ropes.

Clash of heads in the 6th round saw a bad cut above the eye of Margarito and it was bleeding very bad. Santos targeted the eye for the remainder of the round and blasted Antonio with combos. Margarito came back to dominate the 7th and 8th rounds with a heavy amount of body damage. The 9th round was pretty even between both men and could of been the deciding factor of the winner in this close bout. As the 10th round started, the dcotor took another look at the deep cut above the eye of Margarito and stopped the fight. teh fight went to the cards and only the previous nine rounds were scored.

Daniel Santos was the 154 lb champion when Margarito moved up in weight and traveled to his hometown to fight him, and he still only lost by split decision in a shortened fight. Those are the facts.

75% of this forum told me that moving up in weight isn't a valid excuse when fighting someone who isn't the very best.

Daniel Santos FTW!

Well if you had bothered to read your copy/paste job, you'd see that the fight was at 154 and Santos came in weighing 170. Very close fight which Tony probably would have won if not for the headbutt. Tony was WW champ for 5 1/2 years, and had 7 successful defences. No one else ranked in the top 10 at WW today can say the same thing.

I'd never call Santos a nobody and it was a good fight.

this fight was all BS... Margarito was winning before the cut happened, and then after the cut he started ****ing up and lost a few rounds because of it, they should of stopped the fight right after he got cut, Margarito would've won...

Santos was a 147 lbs power house prior to getting KO's by Kofi Jantuah. He was getting real props, cuz of his real power. He later stepped up to 154 and won a championship. He changed his boxing style after that KO, but still carried plenty of power. He was also a 1996 Olympic standout for PR. If he ever decides to fight again, he should still be a force to recon with at 154. The fight with Margarito got stopped early, it was wildly entertaining though as both were trying to knock each others head off. If you haven't seen it yet I suggest you do, feature the everlasting PR vs Mexico theme and it was a great fight, too bad it was stopped prematurely. I believe it as stopped due to a cut and Santos was barely ahead at the time of stoppage, but Margarito was coming on and probably would have stopped him, both were hurt during the brawl.
