FeelTheA-Force 03-11-2006, 11:08 AM but why 8 years !!!!!!!! of inactivity !!!!!!!! Yaman 03-11-2006, 12:50 PM He's such a waste of talent. He could've been the best of the 90s. He was scared of Lewis...i dunno. I don't really think he was scared to death by him. It could've been the best trioligy ever between him and Lennox. Famoso Matador 03-11-2006, 02:31 PM wasnt he brain damaged by golota ??? doesnt any1 actually know that ???? no1 has stated anything?? No i think Holyfield is the one that hurt him. FeelTheA-Force 03-11-2006, 02:49 PM No i think Holyfield is the one that hurt him. he fought twice after that against golota.. so isnt that golota hurt him?? i havent actually seen the fights so anyone out there that knows? mrc213 03-20-2006, 08:45 AM I was readin a bit and its said hes punch drunk now so he dosen't know if he has it in him to overcome it and fight again. He was amazing though. Also he said he started to have trouble making weight so i dunno if hes commin back it would be nice tho also i would want lewis to come back that'd be awsome how can you not make the weight. all he has to do is watch what he eats and concentrate on cardio. i think hes brain damaged. have you heard how he speaks now? M26 03-20-2006, 12:38 PM how can you not make the weight. all he has to do is watch what he eats and concentrate on cardio. i think hes brain damaged. have you heard how he speaks now? He seems a bit slurred in his speech now I think. The reason why he hung em up, I believe is related to his lack of motivation. His trainer, Emanuel Steward often had difficulty getting Bowe to train properly. After he retired, he ran into some difficulty with the law, got arrested and so forth. A waste of talent. Damn shame. K-DOGG 03-20-2006, 04:29 PM What a loaded question. Riddick Bowe peaked during the first Holyfield fight and then succombed to the pleasures of being champion. He ate himself and de-committed himself out of the championship. By the time he climbed into the ring with Golota the first time, he was ready to be taken by a hungry, young talented fighter. If you take the low blows out of the equation, Golota still handed Bowe his own ass to him on a silver tray along with his retirement papers. Riddick's defense was always horrid, he ate punches as if it would have been an insult to his opponent to allow one to miss.....and all agasint mediocre punching heavyweights, never against a bomber. The average connect percentage for Riddick's opposistion was somewhere in the neighborhood of 50%. You can't have a long career with a steady diet of leather like that. Bowe did the right thing by hangin' em up at the end of the second Golota fight and should never be allowed to fight again, IMO. sleazyfellow 03-21-2006, 03:15 AM yeah hes a sad story..he was great in the first holyfield fight but after those 3 fights u could tell he wasnt the same, i didnt know he was still boxing, his brain must b mush.. knucks 03-21-2006, 01:26 PM he actually was arrested for kidnapping his family at gun point, not long after the golota fight while him and his wife were separated and headed for divorce.I think she had a restraining order against him at the time and it pushed him over edge.I believe he served 18 months in prison for that mokele 03-23-2006, 04:30 AM I saw Bowe's last fight with Billy Zumbrun, a good journeyman but someone who wouldn't have won a round against Bowe in his prime. It was a close fight, Bowe scoring a lot of points with his jab but occasionally getting caught laying on the ropes and on the receiving end of 10-15 punch combinations. He was never badly hurt but it's not good for your health to take shots like he did. John Sally and James Toney were guest commentators for the fight. Sally felt that Bowe had lost. A little while ago Bowe was scheduled to fight in England but I guess it fell through or Bowe backed out since it's not on his boxrec.com schedule: http://www.boxrec.com/boxer_display.php?boxer_id=001640 For those who lost track of Bowe after his 2 fights with Golota, I must say that I read a few years ago of how Bowe tried to become a military man but failed to pass boot camp (basic training). He had a reputation for being lazy but that took the cake. How can a professional athlete and former world heavyweight champ fail basic training in the military? It was disgraceful! Of course equally disgraceful was Bowe's behavior in kidnapping his children. Maybe that's water under the bridge now, but Bowe cuts a tragi-comic figure in boxing history. dave777 03-23-2006, 11:52 AM wasnt he brain damaged by golota ??? Unless his brains were in his shorts :p He did win 2 fights last year. http://www.boxrec.com/boxer_display.php?boxer_id=001640 He is 38 now, and it might be good idea for him to come back as there is little competition about and he could win world title. He only ever lost once :hitit: jason100x 03-28-2006, 01:23 PM I guess being punch drunk plus Burger King has worked against him. Too bad. Stiv Rex 03-31-2006, 08:57 PM No i think Holyfield is the one that hurt him. they all hurt him a liitle, it just added up too much Yaman 04-01-2006, 11:49 AM Bowe. Pretty amazing that he only has 1 loss. Such a waisted talent. Southpaw16 04-03-2006, 02:18 AM I was readin a bit and its said hes punch drunk now so he dosen't know if he has it in him to overcome it and fight again. He was amazing though. Also he said he started to have trouble making weight so i dunno if hes commin back it would be nice tho also i would want lewis to come back that'd be awsome He is a heavyweight, he doesn't have to make weight. K-DOGG 04-04-2006, 12:36 PM Bowe. .... Such a waisted talent. That's Bowe in a nutshell. Dempseyistheman 04-06-2006, 04:11 PM Bowe looked awful in that last fight. JoeTheRock7 04-06-2006, 10:17 PM yea brain damage is a cumulation of a lot of things not jut one fight or one fighter. I know holyfield and bowe had three fights though all three of them fights definately played a part. mr.thraz 04-07-2006, 01:44 AM after the golata fight, eddie futch made him take a cat scan and it was descuverd that bowe had severe brain damage. bowe tried to join the marines, then quit. he tried to fight again but futch wouldnt work with him. the word was another fight could kill him, so no one would work with him. But after watching Billy Zumbrum almost knock him out(he was about 2 punches away from the ref stopping the fight), I lost faith in any successful comeback for him. Bowe looked so bad and out of shape in his last fight, I don't know how he passed the physical and was allowed to fight. mr.thraz 04-27-2006, 11:23 PM for me it was the last golata fight. the word was he overtrained and decided to sweat off the weight to come in lighter. and well, when you sweat out that fluid in your skull protecting your brain from impact, your pretty much defenceless against a headshot causing some form of brain damage. he did drop golata in that fight but that was the end of any bowe greatness. Stiv Rex 05-02-2006, 08:33 PM hes ****ing nuts, he joined the marines, remember? then he wanted to quit and they didnt want to let him, finally let him out dishonorably. then he kidnapped his wife, did a little more than a year, i think. he looks like **** now, sounds punchy. **** him, big daddy my ass. more like fat daddy. Dick Waxwood 05-02-2006, 10:37 PM When a man weighs-in in a closed-doors situation, one can be sure that the stench of cattle refuse cannot be far off. Bowe's "comeback" was all about smoke, mirrors, horse**** and circus tents. I had no doubt when in the months before his first comeback match, they stated that he was 250 and in the best shape ever - straight out of prison. When I read that he was in negotiation with Playtex after bludgeoning professional mannequin Marcus Rhoades - I knew all that I needed to re his brain damage and the likely invisible agenda behind the scenes. No doubt Bowe is or was being lead by somebody hoping to make a buck off of his name. Falconetti 05-03-2006, 07:06 PM He came in in very bad shape though. If he got serious, lost some weight, and fought a few tomato cans i think he could once again make some noise, especially in todays division.
