‘I don’t think he really wants to fight me’

MANNY PACQUIAO yesterday belittled Marco Antonio Barrera’s challenge for a rematch and labelled his Mexican rival as “desperate.”
Pacquiao, who arrived from a four-day vacation in Hong Kong late Thursday night, told the Bulletin that Barrera has nowhere to go.
"He wants to win back the love, admiration and respect of the boxing world that’s why he wants to fight me again," said Pacquiao.
Pacquiao also doubted Barrera’s sincerity, saying: "He is afraid (to fight me)’. I don’t think he really wants to fight me. But he is being forced to say these things and if he can have his way, he will continue to avoid me. It seems that he has ran out of reasons.’’
Barrera relayed his intentions to fight Pacquiao through the World Boxing Council (WBC), the Mexico-based governing body that is poised to strip him off the super-featherweight crown in the event he decides to fight for a different boxing body or even move up in weight.
‘’Honestly, it is against his will to fight me. But the boxing world knows I am the best in the super-featherweight division and he knows very well that he can’t beat me in a rematch but there’s no other way but to call out my name’’ said Pacquiao, who beat up Barrera so bad in Nov. 2003 in Texas that ringsiders thought the Mexican will no longer fight again.
Pacquiao said Barrera fought hapless opponents, except for Erik Morales in late-2004, and this is the reason why he is longing to square off with the GenSan southpaw.
Since losing on an 11th-round knockout to Pacquiao, Barrera has won over Paulie Ayala of the US, Mzonke Fana of South Africa and Robbie Peden of Australia, while Pacquiao further boosted his stock by taking on solid campaigners including Mexicans Juan Manuel Marquez, Hector Velazquez and Morales (twice).
‘’With the exception of Morales, Barrera fought has beens and never-wases,’’ said Pacquiao, who is looking at a tuneup fight on June 18 or July 2 at the Araneta Coliseum as his priority.
‘’Barrera doesn’t send me the creeps and I don’t have any hesitation to meet him so I could beat him up again,’’ said Pacquiao.

‘’If Barrera’s handlers think Barrera can avenge the loss, they’re all wrong,’’ added Pacquiao.
