Deeznuts 03-09-2006, 04:33 PM I used to train and my trainer started teaching me for like a month after that, it was curtains. He had me sparring his pro's and ameteur to get them ready for fights. I used to tell him that I wanted to learn more but he just put me in there to spar. Sparring can discourage anyone especially when they don't teach us shit. I stopped going for a while then I went bac cuz it is the only boxing gym around but guess what. All he told me to do was hit the bag this week and next week ill be sparring and I never went back. -GBGQ- 03-09-2006, 04:38 PM I used to train and my trainer started teaching me for like a month after that, it was curtains. Mine watches me while I hit the bag and tells me different things to do, we do focus mitts standing and while walking around the ring, and alot of other stuff. Manfredo Jr 03-09-2006, 05:30 PM i sparred after 2months. i got hurt lol but i still go. theres a "SNAP" in my punches now. when i started there wasnt much snap. yeah man but if u went in the ring on ur first week and got hurt it wud probs of disheartened u abit u not think? tnerb 03-09-2006, 06:13 PM ya seriously how do you think you can get in the ring when you dont have the tools? Before you get in the ring you at least need some sort of jab and a right cross. (hooks come eventually, they can take time to master) FeelTheA-Force 03-09-2006, 06:57 PM yeah man but if u went in the ring on ur first week and got hurt it wud probs of disheartened u abit u not think? i just went in to kill him. i know i was being cockey. but he was 30lbs heavier than me. and 5 years at the gym. i was dis heartened for sure. and cudnt sleep for a couple nites. jus thinkin shit i did baddddd butyou get over it trust me Manfredo Jr 03-10-2006, 06:53 PM i just went in to kill him. i know i was being cockey. but he was 30lbs heavier than me. and 5 years at the gym. i was dis heartened for sure. and cudnt sleep for a couple nites. jus thinkin shit i did baddddd butyou get over it trust me yeah , i got disheartened a bit when i lost a fight :( Gio 03-10-2006, 06:58 PM Your trainer will let you spar when he feels your ready You couldnt be good after a week...n00b asshole :lol1: I think he should learn a lesson and go for 3 rounds or so. I pretty sure next he wont be so damn eager to step into the ring after a weeks worth or training. Manfredo Jr 03-10-2006, 07:14 PM :lol1: I think he should learn a lesson and go for 3 rounds or so. I pretty sure next he wont be so damn eager to step into the ring after a weeks worth or training. lol , someplaces i bet they wud just chuck him in the ring and let him get his ass whoooped lol but tht aint nice  , theres a guy who has been coming to our gym for a while got in the ring for the first tym tonight and got ko'd lol , he took a hook to the chin and off he went . he got up and was ok though , the boy tht ko'd him is a really really good amature and just cant control his power and speed VERSATILE2K9 03-10-2006, 07:21 PM i tell u this sparring aint no joke. when u get hit in the head by a hook your like DAMN! yrrej 03-10-2006, 07:53 PM Dump the trainer and fight the toughest guy you can find.... TonyRingside 03-10-2006, 08:33 PM i been boxing for like a week and im good but my trainer has'bnt let me spar yet when should i b starting you're not good if you've only been boxing for a week, your trainer will have you spar when you have enough skills to do it, and even then you're going to get your ass kicked because you still won't be good. it takes a while. unstoppable sam 03-10-2006, 08:53 PM u sound like how i was. my trainer put me in after about a month and i thought i was more than ready. i got my ass worked. u always think your good when u start because u havent compared yourself to anyone except for what uve seen on tv. SlightlyStoopid 03-11-2006, 10:25 PM I have a good scenario for you. (similar to the guy wanting to spar) I've been at the gym now for 2 1/2 weeks and a few days ago the coach decided I was ready to spar. I went 3 rounds and actually did really well, bloodied the guys nose pretty good and didn't get hit hardly. SO the coach invited me in today to spar with his golden gloves fighters, and I did good for 3 rounds, obviously wasn't kicking his ass, but got alot of solid jabs and crosses, and then on the 4th round I took a hard one to the nose, and for the rest of the round I was bleeding all over and getting jabbed in the nose. I still feel I did well, my double jabs and counters actually worked good, but obviously i've only been there 2 weeks so I haven't LEARNED any defense or other punches yet. I think after 3 rounds the guy figured out that I didn't have much diversity in my punches and picked me apart pretty well. So I wouldn't rush into the ring quite yet, you could be a quick learner or slow, the coach will let you know, he'll test you out on different fighters and see where you are at. Obviously I'm not at a golden glove level as I learned today, but I wasn't expecting that. :) good luck! dangerous dave 03-12-2006, 02:02 AM My friend has been boxing for 5 years now and I decided he wasn't anything so I decided to do some training with him at a gym about a year ago. I thought i was superhuman because id never been knocked down from a punch in my life but had been able to knock people down. Got the biggest suprise of my life when we started sparring because he really went for it and i decided head gear was for pussies! I was ko'd on my feet so he stopped and I was completley disheartened after just 5 mins. Its just something you learn from and be a bit more humble because of it. Got better now and ive never been knocked "down" still. LightsOut Le 03-12-2006, 03:39 AM sparring...is probally the best hting you can do...but yuou have to pay for your mistakes....its the only time you will ever be 100% concentrated comapred to when your working the heavy bag and a hot chick walks by.... sparring is great, but if the guy your sparring is relentless and better then you(wich he mostlikely will) your gonna get ****ed up... find someone who is your size and experience or better... and ask him if you can move around vBulletin® v3.7.1, Copyright ©2000-2008, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
