Ok, so here's the deal, I started boxing about 5 months ago and wan't to be a pro boxer when I'm older, and I have talent, but I don't have the time to train hard enough until I leave school, because I can't concentrate on boxing unless I ditch school work and I easily run out of energy in amateur fights and last night put on a piss performance in a fight I had the ability to win (I lost on points in it because I virtually hadn't trained and knew it). I may leave school when i'm 16 (in a year) and then train hard, but will I have left it too late then?

No........and school is more important at your age anyway.Just train when you can now and then when you have the time do it full time.16 is not too late to get into full swing it is still somewhat early depending whom you ask.Alot of Pro fighters still maintain full time jobs and train and fight. You can do it just concentrate and prioritize.Good Luck.

It was the same with me mate don't worry. I started boxing when I was 15 and I trained as much as I could at home and at the gym. I found school got in the way a lot taking up time and also tiring me out preventing me from training to my full potential. Time became worse during my GCSE's but I kept my interest in boxing and trained hard whenever I could.

When I left school I did a few courses at college and made some money as well. I had a lot more free time when I was at college than when I was at school. My training really went up and I greatly improved, my gym became a second home! lol Before I knew I was winning fights and competitions and now nearing 21 I'm almost on the path to becoming a pro!

Ok, but my problem is if I go to the gym 4 nights a week the way I do now, I end up totally ****ing up in school.

I would cut down on the gym to be honest. Do the best you can at school and get it out of the way. You'll be leaving soon enough so make the most of it. You have to decide whats most important to you. I picked the gym and started to do badly at school!

Don't quit school
the most important thing for anyone is at least your highschool deploma

Even if you just last until graduation you'll make nearly double the money then if you dropped out, and more if you went to college (not pro boxing though)
now i'm not saying screw boxing go to school, not at all, cut going to the gym to 3 times a week, 4 times when you can. but seriously think about what your going to do once you retire, even if you go pro and get a decent record doesn't mean your going to be making the big bucks that contenders make. So always leave yourself the option to fall back on if you lose interest, etc. I mean God Forbid (happened to somebody i know) your ready to go pro, your young and have great potential then some dickhead in a sparring match takes a cheap shot, messes up your eye and the doctor says if you box you'll go blind. Always leave yourself something to fall back on

even if its just high school diploma, you'll be able to get a job go into college. Never depend on anything, you never know
even if non of this happens, you'll atleast have had the option ya know

good luck though :boxing:

Pretty much exactly same mate.

I work too, its hard to do well at school, homework, work, train effectively, and keep up a social life.

You could try going to be bed earlier and getting up and going to gym or train... that's what I do.

But I seriously don't recommend quitting school... most likely you'll regret it later on.

You might have to sacrifice a lot of stuff you do ie. social life and shit if you wanna train hard.

I believe you need to think this out a little better. You can't train enough because of school to win an amateur fight, and you want to go pro? Not a good sign.

i know how you feel, im in my fourth year of a computer engineering degree...barely anytime to study.

Personally I find that I am able to fit a lot of training in the mornings. I wake up at 6, run down to the gym for some weights and cardio. Eat breakfast at 7:30, shower and head to class for the day.
I am at the club 3 days a week and try to fit heavy bag work whenever i have a break.

Might disagree with you alot in regard to boxing, but that was brilliant advice.

Yeah but I can't find time to train hard enough. I was in the county amateur championships and lost on points to some guy who couldn't punch but landed more than I did, but I was far too tired by the second round to even remotely do my best. If school was shorter and I could train hard enough, I would have won that bout easily, but I can't train hard enough. So i'll wait until im 16 at least.

in a sense i may have worded it wierd

but what i'm trying to say is don't quit school too take up pro boxing, at least wait until you get a HS diploma because its good to have something to fall back on in case something goes wrong

the pay day's aren't good in the beginning

not really enough to live on even

I get what you mean rock. It's best to have finished school and have somthing to fall back on if boxing fails you.
