View Full Version : Interval timer
tnerb 03-08-2006, 12:01 AM Ive tried searching the forum for info...
I am interested to know what everyone is using for an interval timer.
Do a lot people just use a burned cd or is there an inexpensive timer that can be bought..
Thanks.
triggerhappy 03-08-2006, 12:49 AM i use a digital cooking timer
Peterp 03-08-2006, 01:15 AM I have a Timex Ironman watch
I use it to record splits in my runs but it also has an awesome interval timer, duel countdown you can change, so you can program 3 min round, 1 min rest and it keeps on going until you stop it
Excellent watch, must for any athlete

the indiglo night mode is cool cos i often run early in the morning when it is still dark, so you set the indiglo mode on and any time you hit a button, say to record a lap split, it glows and u can see it, very cool
INDYFIGHTER 03-08-2006, 10:58 AM I thought about it for a really long time but I finally broke down and bought a interval timer from Title I think. I got it cheaper from Amazon and after shipping it was still $90. I have to say I ****ing love it! I plug it in and go. I don't have to take off my gloves like I did with my kitchen timer and I can set it up anyway I want. I usually do three minute rounds with thirty second intervals and 45 second rests. I jump rope to warm up for the first round, throw light punches for the second and then do at least three hard rounds.
yrrej 03-08-2006, 10:14 PM I just hang my wristwatch on the wall, but Ringside has a fairly inexpensive timer. I used to use an egg timer also. Guess it depends on your needs and how serious you want to go....
JoeTheRock7 03-08-2006, 11:12 PM If you have a laptop there is a site that has a timer on it for wither 2 minute rounds or 3 minutes rounds with optional 1 minute or 30 second rest periods.
The site is http://www.round12boxing.com/timekeeper.htm
tnerb 03-08-2006, 11:17 PM I like this one too.

LHWchamp5 03-09-2006, 12:38 PM Good thread i was curious about this myself..
Will any timer from sportcheck due??
What functions should i be looking for it to have?
tnerb 03-09-2006, 06:09 PM Some way to set two consecutive intervals fits the needs of most boxers.
ie. 2 minutes followed by 30 seconds...repeat...
As stated above, some of the timex ironman watches can do this, next chance i get im going to look for one.
In the summer I think i will seriously look into building my own, use some of the knowledge from my engineering degree program.
Does anyone else have any input as to features beyond the consecutive intervals?
