View Full Version : weight on a string
Scottie2Hottie 03-07-2006, 10:24 PM ever done that thing where you take a piece of wood (i used a broke hockey stick), and tie a string around it and have a weight at the end, and you roll it up and down? i just did it with a five pounder and it hurts to type!
i figured it could only help, anyone hear bad things about it?

It's actually a great exercise for the forearms. If it felt like a waste of time, add some more weight.
Scottie2Hottie 03-07-2006, 10:34 PM yeah man, i did it like 20 minutes ago and the burn's still with me. i think tomorrow im not gonna be able to move my hands.
i know forearms are a big part of punchin power, so i figured id make them bigger.
SlightlyStoopid 03-07-2006, 11:10 PM Roberto Duran did it.... just kidding I have no clue if he did or not. :)
LightsOut Le 03-07-2006, 11:44 PM i do iot once in a while..i use a skinny stick so its more work..its a gay way to spend 10 minuites tho...
sizu24 03-08-2006, 01:59 AM It's great for your forearms. Bruce Lee did a lot of forearm workouts and this was one of them. People said that he was like a real life Popeye with his forearms.
JoeTheRock7 03-08-2006, 06:54 PM Yea forearms hepl with punching power a lot. Use the string for a while, but there are plenty of other forearm workouts, such as behind the back barbell curls. Bodybuilding.com has a lot of good excercises.
Pugnacious_Z 03-09-2006, 12:40 AM stop talkin shit, forearms have absoluetely nuthin to do with punch power, except holding ur wrist together when u land the punch and u get dat from punching

Do you even know what talking shit means? Forearms play a role in punching power, clench your fist and you'll feel your forearm move. The harder you clench, the harder and more solid your fist is which makes the impact all that harder. Shitty forearms = weak clench = loss of power. Also, weight plays an important role in punching power. At the way a hook lands you are throwing all of your forearm's weight into the punch first. The more your forearm weighs, the harder it comes.
Pugnacious_Z 03-10-2006, 01:46 AM i think every1 can clench their fist hard genius, u dont need to do foreman workouts for that unless if ur a girl. second of all the weight of the forearm doesnt play a role, seeing that ur punch cums from ur whole body, a few grams of extra muscle on ur forearms isnt gona get u to punch like foreman

If you can clench harder than average then you got a jackhammer in your hand moron. Forearms will always play an important part in punching, arm punches or full body weight punches. When you throw an arm punch, where do you think the power and weight is coming from?
Mick Hucknall 03-10-2006, 10:24 AM I though power mainly comes from your hips and legs. Seeing as you have to pivot your lower body for most power punches.

Its is good for developing the forearms not sure it assits punch power though?
Another good one is to scrunch up a newspaper page by page one handed, start at the corner of the page and scrunch it up into a ball and repeat until the whole paper is done, its works well and you get a superb pump from it in the specific forearm area!
Scottie2Hottie 03-10-2006, 03:35 PM punching power comes from a lot of places. good footwork, strong calfs, strong hips, strong waist, strong lats and pecs, strong arms, including strong forearms. i happen to have naturally massive calves and legs, but ive got flimsy forearms. i can already feel the difference the exercise is making.
unstoppable sam 03-10-2006, 09:23 PM i made one with a pvc pipe and a shoestring (and a 10lb weight i stole from my friend) i do 3 sets 3 days a week with it. i havent seen a noticable size difference in my forearms though.
