View Full Version : Floyd Mayweather: "I'll Bring it To Oscar De La Hoya"
Rick Reeno 01-25-2005, 02:19 AM Floyd Mayweather Jr. has taken the final step towards a pay per view mega-fight with Arturo "Thunder" Gatti this Summer. Mayweather is awaiting the results of this weekend's bout between Arturo Gatti and Jesse James Leija. Should Gatti handle business as planned this coming weekend, a bout between him and Mayweather should land in May.
BoxingScene caught up with Mayweather over the weekend to discuss his plans for the Gatti fight, possible matches against Kostya Tszyu, Miguel Cotto and a move to welterweight for possible bouts against De La Hoya, Mosley and Spinks. [details (http://www.boxingscene.com/?m=show&id=593)]

FINALLY SOMEONE IN HERE AGREES WITH ME FLOYD AIN GOING TO WIN AGAINST GATTI AND DE LA HOYA FLOYD IS GOING TO LOSE IN 2005
adeelr 01-25-2005, 07:57 PM floyd has a good chance of beating gatti but he cant crack oscar...oscar wins by TKO.
Kimmy 01-25-2005, 08:37 PM I agree. I`d favour Mayweather to bust Gatti up in 8 rds but De La Hoya is too big and i doubt Mayweather can dance around him for 12 rds and steal a dec, Oscar would catch him and i believe Mayweather`s chin, although still untested, will cave in. I seriously suspect Floyd of having a glass jaw. I know he hasn`t been hit properly so no one can tell but he strikes me as over protective of his chin, we`ll wait and see. As for aq match with Oscar, stupid mistake!
xrhythmxnxbluesx 01-26-2005, 01:49 AM de la hoya would win by decision...

I'm with you on that one.

he hasn't been hit because he is a good defensive fighter. Not only good but an excellent one. His chin may be his weakness, but no one knows, yet, and if so, he's good in protecting it. Every boxer has his own weakness(es), even the great ones. But the best fighters in the world are at their best when they are not exposing them (weaknesses).
He reminded me of Ali. For a very long time, Ali reigned the boxing world and everybody thought he has no weakness. Yet Frazier exposed it in their first fight. Ali can't throw an uppercut! Frazier kept on pounding on the body with his head down. Ali could not keep up with Frazier's pace; and late in the 12th round he throw an uppercut, he missed. And it was the opportunity Frazier was looking for the whole match. Ali missed and Frazier countered with a nasty right hook, on Ali's chin.
But I still think Mayweather is the best. Gatti/Leija will be his biggest challenge. If Mayweather will prevail, it will be because of defense, and he is good at it./
Floydmayweather 01-29-2005, 01:04 AM He will bust Gatti up we will not find out about his chin until he fights Zoo.
paulmmv 01-29-2005, 02:18 AM i would love to see that de la hoya would knock mayweather into next week
Jose Rizal 01-29-2005, 03:26 AM I think Floyd Sr. messed up DLH's style pretty good. The Floyds must have figured out by now how best to combat DLH. Interesting scenario if that fight pushes through.
SonnyJ 01-29-2005, 08:58 AM mayweather is an excellent timer. and he does know a lot about the de la hoya style. i'd probably back him. definitely not 100% though. only if he were naturally 7-10 lbs heavier
QueenCity 01-29-2005, 02:09 PM I don't know if Floyd will be willing to take the pay disparity. DLH would get a much bigger payday than Floyd, I don't know if PBF's ego could handle that.
jack_the_rippuh 01-29-2005, 03:22 PM Well if Floyd was to fight Mosley first...beat Mosley and then go after De La Hoya...maybe he could argue the whole money thing..
De La Hoya would still get a 65-35 split at least..
Floydmayweather 01-29-2005, 04:06 PM Dlh is still the favorite but if Floyd could get DlH in the late rounds were he is known for getting tired Floyd could steal it from Dlh.
The Italian Stallion 01-29-2005, 11:23 PM It would be a good fight and I respect Mayweather for challenging Oscar but De La Hoya is going to take Mayweather to school...
Dynamite76 02-13-2005, 04:13 PM Let Mayweather clear out 140 before challenging anyone at 147.
nezahualcoyotl 02-13-2005, 04:53 PM PBF is going to fight my gardener next that' what i heard. And then he's going after my mailman. Then the guy who works at McDonalds. To be the best you got to fight the best, hence he's #1 P4P.

thanks for the props Joe...if PBF goes to jail he'll be the biggest waste of talent since...Mike Tyson.
love2_punch 02-20-2005, 03:16 PM De La Hoya would win all bouts again them, Unless Oscar wears a mask to look like the mother of Mayweathers children, in which case all bets are off.
