You don't want to run the same distance or the same speed every day.

The goal with road work is to improve your endurance and overall cardio fitness. Don't be so concerned with distance or speed. Be more concerned with the length of time you do it for. 45 minutes 3 times a week with one long run on the weekend where you double that is a good place to start. Having said don't be concerned with speed, remember that it's still good to push yourself, especially at the end of your sessions. Go luck!

I was going to tell you about joining your HS Cross Country team but then noticed you just turned 23. I'll tell you one thing, that team helped me run more than I ever thought I could. One day I ran 9 miles straight at a moderate speed. try going 50% for 7 minutes,
75% for 2-3 minutes and then 90-95% for a minute if you can handle it. Then do it over again as many times as you want/can. Vary it up, make yourself work.

What I would make sure to do is jog lightly for 5-7 minutes then stretch. Then take on the main course of the workout.

Staten Island isn't too far from New Brunswick obviously..I'd say 30 minutes with normal traffic. There's gotta be something in Staten Island though.
