View Full Version : UFC May Not Be Grabbing Boxing Crowd Now, But Give It Time...
BIGPOPPAPUMP 03-07-2006, 02:53 AM Mixed martial arts (MMA) is developing its own substantial following, but is it cultivating any of boxing's mainstream audience? Some, but not as much as its promoters had hoped. [details (http://www.boxingscene.com/?m=show&id=3314)]
Normal folks who dont watch MMA all the time dont like it cuz, most of the time their rolling arounnd on the ground. This **** can be just as boring as Winky.

I dont watch it cause It reminds me too much of wrestling,I dont mean that they wrestle, just the whole atmosphere of it.
Xanxicar 03-07-2006, 05:30 AM Yeah it also reminds me of WWE sometimes. but i know its all real and not fake. but still i dont like to see to much groundwork, it kinda gets boring and repetitve. i mostly like to watch good striking fight(like they in K1) so i stay away from UFC or pride.
yrrej 03-07-2006, 06:49 AM I don't think so. In the first place,it is perceived as too "brutal" by much of the general public. In the second place, "pay per view" is already killing it. There are only a handful of competent athletes at each weight in the entire world, and no incentive for anyone to develop in this sport, as the money isn't there without the TV, and even the money that is there isn't that great compared to boxing. Then there are the multitude of rules used by each organzation, which complicates the picture even more than simply have an alphabet of organizations, like boxing, fighting by the same rules. It's also a tough self-destructive sport, considering the paltry purses, which takes a lot of varied skills to do very well in, and then there is still no guarantee one has what it takes. Plus the high weight classes and necessity of strength lends itself to steroid and other drug abuse, and leaves smaller people out of the picture. I think mixed martial arts is a novelty act which will either go the way of WWF (which it already has to some extent) or completely fold at some point.
enadeus 03-07-2006, 08:00 AM Yeah there haven't been many spectacular UFC events in a while, while Pride almost always has a few good fights on their card.

same for me.
but boxing is better for me it have a different flavour of action that you fell you dont have to be volient to win you could win by tatics and stragy.
boxing is ranked the hardest sport after ice hockey
SquareCircle 03-07-2006, 10:06 AM i hate it when people think ufc=mma.
1stly, ufc sucks. less skilled competitors, and a childish wwf-like cage.
PRIDE is where it's at. as a boxing fan I can appreciate pride. the fighters there actually are really world class proven fighters and they all fight each other. and they fight in a ring..sooo much better than ufc. liddell, the 'ufc lhw champ', stepped up and went to pride and got his ass handed to him. same w/ jens pulver. gomi ****ed him up.
GunStar 03-07-2006, 10:16 AM Personally I don't enjoy UFC, MMA or Pride. I just love boxing.

I agree, the best part of MMA IS the BOXING! Who wants to watch greco roman wrestling?
AIR_KENG 03-07-2006, 12:06 PM when you love striking so much, stick to boxing... but what makes MMA so good to watch is the likes of royce gracie who show locks an art and very good to see... :D
enadeus 03-07-2006, 01:05 PM I like the Bushido shows the best. Ground fighting is great but when you got the one of the other guy just holding on and wasting time, thats what makes it boring. Good example is CroCop on the ground, the guy has no idea what to do except for hold and throw useless punches.
