View Full Version : Short, powerful punches...
Do you think by standing closer to the heavy can help u delvelope this type of punch?
I like to get damn close and throw the classic 1-2-3. I try to make them as snappy as i can at this range.
Is this a good idea? To me it seems logical but i want other oppinions.
Any other drills i can do for these short, powerful punches?
AS always thanks for the replies.
ATTN: NazFan, what do u think bro?
All these views and no one has an opinion?
WTF
VERSATILE2K9 03-06-2006, 10:29 PM no standing close wont cause u will smother all your power.throw them like a prime tyson jus look at videos on how he throws them. or hell look at my video
yrrej 03-06-2006, 10:53 PM It's a double-edged sword. The closer you are to the opponent, the easier to hit.
Scottie2Hottie 03-06-2006, 10:58 PM technically i think it depends. if youre a long-armed guy with power at the end of your punches, i wouldnt bother trying to develop short-range power.
but i cant think of any way to develop that kind of power other than working on throwing your punches at a closer distance. work on making sure you can throw technically well-done punches from a short distance. what youre doing now seems like a good plan.
-GBGQ- 03-07-2006, 12:56 AM I've tried staying as close as I can to the bag but with my height and arms my trainer would shoot me if I ever tried to fight like that.
To build up on the short punches though I'll throw them in sets doing one punch at a time.
VERSATILE2K9 03-07-2006, 01:00 AM i tend to create power really close to the bag. i guuess it jus depends on how u throw them also
IM 5'9 168#'s
My arms arent too long, and i want to get comfortable on the inside.
I want to try to increase strong, sharp, straight punches.
thank 4 the replies fellas

ur a little more bulkier than me... but yeah, somewhat of a similar body type.
Ur a lot leaner too.
I got the chest and neck like u though :D
Its hard to tell ur arm length, but i would say my arms are shorter for my height

Zigga 03-12-2006, 02:18 PM If u want power when standing close u just need to use more twisting in the mid section and use ya feet more by turning them as well.
CUFreeze 03-12-2006, 03:19 PM Mystyal- you mentioned "your video" in an above post. where can I see this?
thanks man

People dont obsess over Tyson. Tyson was born with amazing physiological makeup that allowed him to fight that way. Watch Roberto Duran, his style isn't as taxing on stamina and is just as effective if not more.

joker 03-21-2006, 08:25 PM short punches are good
opethdrums 03-21-2006, 10:43 PM i think pivoting your feet and using your hips is the key to short range power. because thats the only way i generate good power up close with a lanky build
