View Full Version : dont get carried away with calzaghe
Moschino045 03-06-2006, 01:03 PM he was fighting a rubbish oponent, yes he looked as good as ever at 34 or what ever but Lacy was pure crap. any body with any skills would of schooled Lacey, he was just walkin forward & tryin to land with one big shot but arching with the punches, & remember if Lacy did manage to land just once then JC would of been down & out ! plus Lacey was muscle bound on the night,
Calzagge is still not in the same class as RJJ, Eubank, Toney, Benn or Nunn,,
RJJ would of beat him becos hes faster than JC & JC relies on speed alone, Eubank easily beats JC just based on how close their actual fight was when Eubs was weighin 193 with six days to go, Toney is a different level plain & simple imagine wot Toney would do to Lacy!, if Mitchell knocks calzagge DOWN then Benn knocks calzaghe OUT!, Nunn is a southpaw like JC & JC relies on trickin orthodox with his southpaw stance,
Tarver, Hop, Winky, jermain Taylor all beat him !
paul750 03-06-2006, 01:04 PM Yeah right mate, time for your medication now.
medium-deek 03-06-2006, 01:06 PM Yeah right mate, time for your medication now.
LOL. Classic :D
RAESAAD 03-06-2006, 01:06 PM Yeah right mate, time for your medication now.
:lol1: The only thing in the whole post that was slightly accurate was that lacy could have KOed him with a big shot and that was probably only true in the first half of the fight.
ottoevans 03-06-2006, 01:08 PM i always thought Lacy was just a strong power puncher and not that great, and this was my 1st time seeing Joe.
But Joe is a ****ing beast. I dont think Roy would have had the legs enough to run away all day against Joe.
iron mike tyson 03-06-2006, 01:08 PM but didnt calzaghe beat eubank :S

Lacey was muscle bound on that night? Your right as opposed to that flabby more flexbile Lacey that foguht Pemberton or Reid...bad comment.
All Joe has is speed? Wrong again son Joe has an incredible hart...you will never see a fighter that dominates the first 11 rounds and comes out for the 12 firing like he has to iwn it to win the fight. Just speed?
Either your post is geared toward getting a rise out of some like me (which it did) or your retarded...I'll let you take your pick. (keep in mind I have always been fond of retards)

The problem with having power is that you have to make use of it... I would even go as far as saying Calzaghe had more power on the night, simply because he could land them, and Calzaghe's power is massively underrated also.
Moschino045 03-06-2006, 01:14 PM but didnt calzaghe beat eubank :S
that wasnt the 90/91 Eubank !
Eubs took the fight at six days notice becos 'the celtic worrier' collins backed out, Eubs was a big underdog agenst JC & it went accordin to plan altho if u take away the three knockdowns (2 of which slips) & it would makes the fight quite close. the Eubank of five yrs earlier would of made JC look abit silly,
Moschino045 03-06-2006, 01:16 PM Lacey was muscle bound on that night? Your right as opposed to that flabby more flexbile Lacey that foguht Pemberton or Reid...bad comment.

Yes, just speed. Take JCs speed away & he wouldnt be very good !

if Lacey wasnt so damn muscle bound, he could of landed a few big shots & won the fight earlyu. it was just that JC got abit lucky that Lacey was so slow on the night, & that Laceys big shots were just missin him slightly. credit to JC he ducked well, his hands are still fast, he had home advantage etcetera but dont get carried away
iron mike tyson 03-06-2006, 01:20 PM of course ppl are gonna get carried away wev all just witnessed the most 1 sided fight ever
Moschino045 03-06-2006, 01:22 PM yeh but a big puncher vs a fast boxer & it is going to be one sided becos the big punchers only chance is to land big punches (which Lacey couldnt do becos he was away from home & nervous on the night)
GunStar 03-06-2006, 01:24 PM Lol, some Cal fans from another board think that he would've knocked out Hagler & Toney. The 2 of the best chins in the middleweight history.

Yeah i also thought a lot of people jumped the gun on lacy. ;)
Joe did look good his hand speed made the difference he saw lacy's shots coming and he kept popping him with shorter quicker punches.
JuicyJuice 03-06-2006, 01:34 PM he was fighting a rubbish oponent
The same rubbish opponent who was supposed to be the 'next big thing' in boxing?? Okay, whatever.
T to the T 03-06-2006, 01:36 PM he was fighting a rubbish oponent...
...Tarver, Hop, Winky, jermain Taylor all beat him !
IDIOT ALERT!!!
Face it, a Brit beat one of your overrated Yanks from here to Timbuktu :boxing: White men can't jump, but they can definately box!!!
Hitman932 03-06-2006, 01:36 PM i thought his name was calzone.....
so much for his big future in the pizza business
JuicyJuice 03-06-2006, 01:37 PM any body with any skills would of schooled Lacey
Well 35-2 Syd Vanderpool (who beat Glen Johnson, but lost to Bernard Hopkins), Robin Reid and others couldn't manage it. Guys at the 2000 Olympics couldn't manage it where Lacy got a medal.
Give me a break.
Everybody knew that if Calzaghe could roll back the years, he could easily get the better of Lacy because Calzaghe was That Good. It's just that nobody expected him to be able to roll back the years like that.
JuicyJuice 03-06-2006, 01:42 PM Calzagge is still not in the same class as RJJ, Eubank, Toney, Benn or Nunn,,
Well, I don't go along with these word games. There are things that Calzaghe does that Jones Jr couldn't, and there are things that Jones Jr did that Calzaghe can't, etc. They are all in the same class - top-class middleweights/super-middleweights, and they all have their own styles where they do some things better than others and other things not as well as others.
Calzaghe beats Toney on styles, IMO. Nunn was never at his best at 168, and if Steve Little can out-hussle Nunn then just imagine the workrate, speed of hand, sense of timing/distance of Calzaghe against a faded Nunn at 168. Eubank would of beaten Calzaghe, yes. Benn, yeah if he was at his best then yeah okay Benn gets Calzaghe out of there. Jones beats Calzaghe on styles, nothing to be ashamed of.
Super_Lightweight 03-06-2006, 01:49 PM But Joe is a ****ing beast. I dont think Roy would have had the legs enough to run away all day against Joe.
Roy had legs for days at 168 and Joe would be taking abeating while trying to land on Roy. It wouldn't be some scenario of Roy trying to "run" all day. Joe was a beast vs Jeff Lacy. Like the poster, let's not get carried away.
But, I don't agree with everything the poster said and it sounds like too many excuses honestly.
IDIOT ALERT!!!

Uhh, no. Moschino is not from the U.S., buddy.

You might want to do a grammar check before submitting such a response thereby saving yourself from ridicule. :lol1:

Everybody knows that grammar isnt observed properly on this site by everyone, so bringing that up is like stating the obvious.
"Hahaha, your grammar is bad on a site that nobody gives a **** about grammar"
The people who make the mistakes could no doubt submit a decent quality English essay, they just dont try and add all the little apostrophes every sentence... its easier to just write like Manny_P.

You should be a boxing coach :boxing:
If only Lacey took the advice of some internet warrior he would have won easy :boxing:
