View Full Version : Cotto Batters Branco To Win
-Antonio- 03-04-2006, 11:45 PM Man he slowly wore Branco down. It was similar to the abdullev sp? fight. He just slowly hurts people. I guess all you have to do is look at his opponents faces to see his power and damage. Although Cotto is fighting good fighters I think its time for him to word class fighters. Hatton, Mayweather, Castillo....
BIGPOPPAPUMP 03-04-2006, 11:51 PM Puerto Rico has a storied history in the sweet science and has produced many legendary fighters most notably: Felix Trinidad, Hector Camacho, Wilfredo Benitez, Wilfredo Gomez, Carlos Ortiz, Edwin Rosario, Sammy Serrano, Jose Torres, Estaban De Jesus, John John Molina, Wilfredo Vazquez, Alfredo Esealera, Miguel Cotto, Pedro Montanez, and Juan LaPorte. TheEvilSaint 03-04-2006, 11:51 PM cotto's turning into the guy who can TKO the toughest of opponents. he was the 1st to stop corley and was the 1st to stop branco and torres.
im impressed with cotto, but he still has his flaws.

I agree, he has flaws, but he is young and willing to learn. What is respectable about Cotto is that he understands that each fight gives him experience and exposes him to different styles. His management is doing a great job in providing solid opposition with differnt styles to improve the capabilities of this young and somewhat green star. He admits that he has alot to learn and that is admirable. Its true what Emmanuel Stuard said, "I don't recall when was the last time a guy has beat so many fighters that end up quiting because their arms or bodies hurt so much". Ceballos, Abdulaev, Bazan, and now Branco all had to quit because of the utter beating that Cotto dishes out.
SquareCircle 03-05-2006, 11:18 AM some of those body punches cotto was landing sounded like gunshots. i would not want to get hit in the body by that guy!!!just by looking at italy's face and body reactions when they landed on him, you knew they were serious.
-Antonio- 03-05-2006, 11:25 AM Cotto is being managed perfectly to this point. Hes opponents are hand picked, however they are not "bums" they are good fighters. Im not gonna lie and say I dont want him to face Hatton and Gatti now, hes not ready for mayweather just yet though.
PapiShasho 03-05-2006, 12:15 PM I think after Malignani or whatever his name is, he needs to step up to some better fights...
there's a lot of good fights out there for him, but i'd stay away from mayweather for now...hatton, gatti, or castillo are all good fights that would earn him some respect.

ur sig is so ****ing kool....
anyway, i think Malignaggi's speed and movement might give Cotto trouble, but i dont think he has the power to keep Cotto off of him
Derranged 03-05-2006, 12:35 PM Branco just did not look comfortable, just like how he looked against Gatti. He has fast hands and counters very well, but his lack of power is what prevented it from being hard competion for Cotto. I agree that after Paul, if that fight even happens, he should fight stiffer opponents. Corrales might not be a bad option, and there was talk about a fight with Gatti if he beat Baldomir.
Hitman932 03-05-2006, 01:13 PM branco laid back on the ropes and just let cotto rip away at him, its no ****in wonder he couldnt move his arms.
cotto looks like hes a weight class above everyone he fights
borikua 03-05-2006, 01:15 PM Pauli must have seconds thoughts bout fighting Cotto now...

ive been saying for awhile that pauli doesent really want this fight for any reason besides money.
he has very brittle hands and hes flashy but no power. at this point cotto provides a big money opp being an HBO fighter who is still fighting solid guys but not quite ready for the world class. none of the other top guys would even say pauli's name in public. so pauli sees this as a chance to get paid now knowing that he could hurt himself or lose to a lesser fighter and never have the chance for the dollars again.

That might be true. Also you have to see it from the business point of view, a Puerto Rican Vs an Italian in the MSG the day b4 the Puerto Rican day parade, you know it will be a sell out. But the theory of Pauli trying to get a big fight b4 getting injured is really interesting. The same has been said bout Reid when he fought Tito.
But you know my man, the best fight out there is Cotto-Hatton at 140 or 147. They both should leave Floyd alone, and imo I think that a Cotto-Hatton fight would sell more than a Cotto-Floyd or Hatton-Floyd fight right now.
branco was scared of cotto..thats why he kept trying to be his friend and slap gloves with him every 5 seconds

Derranged 03-05-2006, 03:49 PM I dont think Paulie wants to fight him at all, I think he may just be tryin to get more exposure by calling out Cotto.
Branco had a good idea though.
Cotto cuts off the ring better than anyone in boxing.....we've established that in the past. Branco simply decided to lay on the ropes and say "**** it" at certain times.
Nobody is going to run from cotto....and it's not going to be Malignaggi. The only way to beat him is to fight fire with fire and take the fight to him.
