"To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public. -- Theodore Roosevelt, May 7, 1918"

This is typical of Teddy Roosevelt. Roosevelt, I feel is the standard against which ALL Republican party politicians should be measured.

The republicans are supposed to be tough, self made men like Roosevelt. People who say to the american people, "If you bite down and work hard you can do anything. Don't try to have someone else do it for you." Roosevelt himself is proof of this. When he was young he was a small weak child with severe asthma. By working hard he built himself up to be an excellent athlete and one who many remarked was a man among men.

These types of the Republicans are the ones who yell and scream when someone tries to expand government beauracracy.

These Republicans are the ones who say "We won't **** with you, you don't **** with us." (Roosevelt Corollary, great white fleet). You know, "walk softly carry a big stick"?

These Republicans make sure that if the government spends money, it has to benefit the American people directly.

Where have these Republicans gone?

Just look at "Walk Softly and carry a big stick".

Has the Bush Whitehouse done this? Hell no! Theirs is "Stomp loudly let everyone know you are here and bash everything in sight."

If Bush tried to amend the constitution to define marriage while Roosevelt was around, Roosevelt would go absolutely ballistic.

If Roosevelt was around when our government passed the tax cut while we had a PROJECTED surplus, he would personally lead a lynch mob into the house and senate floors.

Instead of trying to justify going to war in Iraq with "He tried to kill my dad." Roosevelt would send a written challenge to a duel to Sadam.

The Religious right is destroying what the republican party use to be.

Roosevelt was a huge boxing fan, too. He had a ring set up in the white house and sparred with visitors.

That's neither here nor there, of course, but it's an interesting bit of trivia.
