my coach wanted me to help out this guy cause he had a fight coming up. but the only bad thing about sparring at my gym is that i cant use half power on ne 1. the the first video u will see in the first 10sec i throw i medium power left hook and the guy goes flying into the ropes and my coach tells me to use less power then that. and on round two i throw a jab and a right and i think another jab and he goe sflying outta camera view. and u will see my coach picking up his hands as in saying wha the ****. i told u less then half power. those were the only times i used half power shots. but as u can see the other guy is using all of his power. but it didnt phase me though. i tend to go to low whenever im in defense im going to start staying alittle higher now. but mostly in the video i jus decided to work on defense. and a few times with we were close to a clench (me and the other guy) i would instuct him to do somebody shots so he can improve on those also.and i havnt sparring in over a month so at times i take a few shots.but hell who doesnt :D http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p0FKTH22NPk http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AJr1fnokHbk

Looking good, some of the head movement was nice, some of it was over-used and unnecesary.

I saw those power shots, now you need to see mine :D , because for my height and weight I also hit very hard... although I need to actually show it, which I wont be able to do for a little while at least.. The funny thing is I am succesfully dropping weight, yet I am still gaining power. For instance yesterday, I was the lightest I have been in around 6 months, and my power was better than ever, not to mention the speed on the pads... now that is something I would like to film, me on the pads.

Anyway bro, nice going. How comes you said he is an amateur but not yourself?

Its real unfortunate you are in that situation... it appears you are being held back some, is that right?

You need to get over to NY man, and start training to the full potential, its only gonna bring out the best in you that way...

When I first started sparring, I was sparring with younger kids, and only in the recent months have I had the chance to go to the older ones, but when I first started I was told also to not use any speed or any power. Take it from me though. It was the worst bit of advice I ever received, since now I am worried about using speed and power and I am more open to shots... I never feel that I can start opening up in sparring, because of what I was told way back. :(

cause i dont have ne fights at all.and its good to lose weight and gain more power. thats how i am also once i start losing my power increases for some odd reason. and like i said in the video i only threw two power shots 1 in the first 10 sec when my coach stopped me. and the second with the jab right and i think jab when he flew outta camera range. but those were jus half power. now maybe ppl will see why i need another trainer

Definetly need another trainer...

If you were looking for one criticism from the vids you showed... I would say based just on those 2, just conserve a bit more energy by not bobbing and weaving so much. Of course, when in range do it, but dont overuse it and dont wear yourself out with it, because doing that drains energy quickly. Im not saying you always do this, im just saying the 2 rounds you posted, I picked up on that... perhaps you never do that normally, but in case you do, I would say conserving energy is more important. :)

First I have those shorts too. I am wearing them right now. They won't let me take them to my gym because we can't wear red or blue. It's a gang thing I guess which sucks.

Also your boy with the camera needs a tripod bad. Or at least have him hold still, I can't see shit in that video.

And last, you don't have any Pro fights or Ametuer fights? If you have am fights what was your record?

i wanna conserve energy but that guy throws shots non stop. as u see in the video so i cant really stop unless i wanna get hit. but im not going to lie i saw alot of open shots where i could have nailed him but its sparring and i didnt want my coach to be mad. thats why i turned it into a defensive session for me

yeah like i said earlier i saw my HUUUUUUUUGE mistake. when ever i bob and weave i go to slow. i usually bob that low when im using my legs but like i said i turned it into a defense session for myself. your the bob and weaving i saw doing i usually dont do. it like doing squats over and over again.

to be honest, id like to see the jab more, it doesnt matter how small or big you are, its a low energy consuming, fast, and effective punch, that guy would have trouble coming in if you jabbed,

simple form-
you dont wanna walk into his jab do you!
neither will he if you jab! therfore giving you breathing room and reaction time!
its not asif your gonna get ko'ed by a jab!

A lot of good advice has been said. And i aggree with X, that you're being held back by not being able to let your hands go. As X said this can diffently hinder you in the futre.

I too understand all to well about coachs telling you to hold back power. But you got to take a look at the video you put and see what you can work on. Since you do have the power, it doesn't mean you have to allow yourself to get hit. If anything work on the jab, single, double, triple, bottom and top. Also when you are in close you should move your hands. I know you don't want to hurt the guy, but just let your hands go with out power. Trust me, not only is that holding you back but that may also hold the other guy back too. You shouldn't have to take punches voluentrly, no matter if they don't hurt. Good luck with Rooney, im sure he will help you out, your raw but im sure Rooney can help you out a lot and make you a better fighter.

I'd like to know why you never went to train a another gym?

i didnt train at another gym cause it was alot further then the 1 i was going to. i already drive about 15 to 20min to get to it and the other 1s r alot longer/ plus i dont really pay the price per month at the gym im at.and about takin punches yeah i took a few there cause i was gettin tired i hadnt sparred in over a month so i jus gotta get used to it again.

I could definitely see that you were tired in that second round because your stance came up some, you weren't in as much of a crouch anymore. It's much easier to stand up straight than it is to crouch and bob. You need to work your stamina like a mother, sprint and jog uphill, do lots of rounds with the rope, and walk to anywhere that's a close drive rather than use your car. You'll need a ridiculous amount of stamina and muscular endurance of the lower back and legs with your style. Keep your body active, sleep well (get 9-10 hours, no less), and continue to train smart. You have strength and power and some speed but you can never work hard enough when it comes to your physical condition.

How's your diet? You're obviously at a low bodyfat% but that doesn't neccesarilymean you're eating right. Processed junk foods will mess your body up and prevent it from performing at 100%. Kick them all completely. Eat organic, lot's of fresh green vegetables, complex carbs (oats, whole wheat, sweet potatos, yams) and lean red and white meat(but mostly white).

If you want to make a living in this game you need to give yourself the best possible chance and that means working hard on all these areas. Getting uninteruppted sleep is important too. If you live in an area with a lot of noise you might need earplugs to ensure this. Boxing is called the sweet science and even in training there is a way to approach it all scientifically and methodically.

You have talent but so do thousands of others. You need every possible edge with your training and lifestyle against the monsters you'll fight at the pros and to some degree even the amateurs.

Anyway Rooney will tell you all of this and so much more, so I hope it works out and you can work with him. I don't think you'll be posting here nearly as often if so, because you're going to be working harder than ever before in your life and when you're not training you'll probably be trying to keep up your relationship with your friends, family etc. It will become your life eventually. That's what being a professional is about.

Good advice Achilles, and I think everything said here is really constructive, no1 was disrespectful which is nice to see when someone puts a vid up of them ACTUALLY boxing, not just being an arm-chair supporter.

I would love to sparr Mystyal, I think both would learn a lot from that, although the weight difference is getting bigger by the day, because I was already lighter to start off with and now im dropping weight... either way, I sparr some heavyweights, so sparring a middleweight or around there wouldnt be too much mass ... I dont think so anyway. :o

Keep it up bro, and good luck with Rooney when you see him... the man has what it takes to get your style and really make it into a killing machine if it isnt already like that... train hard under him and dont cut any corners like Achilles said... make sure you are doing stamina even if you think your style and your power is good enough for a round 1 KO... hehe. :boxing:

Good idea's there but let me give my input..

Dont cut yourself down to 1 meal. Eat "snacks" throughout the day, but make sure they arent junk snacks... so perhaps fruit, nuts, those power bar things etc etc.

Have like 5 of those healthy alternative's rather than starve yourself, and then have your meal on top. It will be a lot better for your boxing regime...

Also go out and run, running on the treadmill isnt the same...
(But you said you are going to do this anyway)... :)

hmmmmmm 135 140. one of the main reason i did a defensive session. they usually put me up with guys weighing about average hmmmmmm 175. i have to admit i hate sparring the little ppl cause they throw so damn much and fast it aint funny.ahahaha to bad there hits dont hurt though :(

I totally agree with everything Achilles said. Take it from me, he is one of the smartest guys I have been around on boxing forums. He knows his boxing in and out, just take my word for it.

I'm not going to sugarcoat it. You seem to have some talent but you are still extremely inexperienced and you have many flaws that a seasoned professional would easily take advantage of.

1) You bob and weave too low still. Remember what I said: keep your body at a 45 degree angle. That was IMO Tyson's biggest flaw because he wasn't safe once he would move from mid-range to inside. Watch a Miguel Cotto fight and study his stance.

2) Machine squat is crap. You're almost better off doing leg press because Machine squat is the most useless squat exercise you can do.

3) You look like an amateur sometimes when you are bobbing and weaving. You are just too low. You took what I said before too literally it seems. An experienced amateur/professional would use lateral movement and easily sidestep and counter with the uppercut.

4) You are extremely fast and powerful but you still need to work on a lot of things. I would suggest fighting a bunch of amateur bouts. It sounds cliche but boxing is 90% mental, 10 % physical. You can have all the skill and power in the world but if you don't have the smarts you won't get any farther. Eat, sleep, breathe boxing.

Confidence comes from experiencing successful outcomes - and conversely. These are circular problems. Successful outcomes lead to confidence, which in turn lead to successful outcomes. Hot streaks occur when the spiral leads up and slumps occur when the spiral leads down. All of this is natural and happens to everybody at one time or another. You improve by gaining experience and a lack of success triggers worry, affects self-confidence and the things become even worse creating the picture that it is only mental or some psychological problem.

Train hard and you'll improve. Keep at it.

like i stated before in 1 of the post yeah i saw i was bobbing and weaving to low i was tryin to imitate the tyson vs. green. jus with all all the hitting. cause of course u say in the first video what a medium power lef hook could do, the guy ****in flew into the ropes ahahaha. i usually go higher but i like to imitate on how tyson fought in some of his matches. next im going to imitate how he fought pinklon thomas when i spar the next time and ill actually throw combos. but lke i said earlier the guy needed help so i was there to help him with sparring not going out there to show off and impress the fine girls that were there that day and there were some.hehecause if that was the case i would have combo'd the hell outta him until he was knocked down.

but i took your advice and tried to go 90degree didnt I?

Its kind of hard to tell from the camera but it looks like when you bob and weave sometimes your looking at the floor but it looks pretty good. You should ask your coach if hes going to put you in a fight soon cause you look like your ready. And once you get a couple of fights under your belt you'll improve a lot faster cause you'll have more confidence.

Great advice. :boxing:

You have better experince from your sparring partner.

I see you could control him easliy.

I learned some boxing thing from the Japanes anime " Hajime Ippo" where the hero is an infighter and uses peek-a-poo just like you and he used to rotate clockwise to make the other fighter on the ropes.

You could learn on or two from watching cartoon

But I dont know you are better than me and your doing good
