View Full Version : I have a big problem keeping my chin down...
Someone help me out. Is there anything i can do to develope a habit of keeping my chin tucked down?
I noticed this after reviewing tapes of myself and can tell its gonna be a big problem for me if i dont stop it. :eek:
Any suggestions for keeping my hands up too?
I try to make a consious effort for both, but after a while i start slipping and go back to old habits. :(
All suggestions are welcome. :D
VERSATILE2K9 03-02-2006, 04:20 AM just concentrate at looking upward with your eyes. plus its hard to keep that chin tucked with head gear on

here is what you do, for real. Right now while you are reading this put your chin into your chest. do this while you are typing or on a computer always. If you box you must jog, jog with your chin down, brush your teeth with your chin down, pile pillows up behind your head and sleep with your chin down.
Constant awareness is the key. Do this for a couple weeks you won't have a problem.
I used the same strategy when I couldn't box on my toes. My calves got too tired and it was hard to remember to stay on my toes.
so i started walking, never letting my heels touch the ground. Standing in line - on my toes, brushing teeth - on my toes. Now my claves are literally twice the size they were and I can't put my heel down when I box even if I want to.
you can buy a tennis ball or similar and when you shadow box just tuck it into your shoulder using your chin to keep it there!

yrrej 03-02-2006, 10:12 PM In the old days, they used to put a matchbook between the right hand and the chin. You had to hold it there to learn not to drop the hand. Try looking at the guy's chest, instead of his face, and lift your eyes if you need to. If you get tagged enough, either you will protect your chin or quit....
RockyMarcianofan00 03-02-2006, 10:45 PM i don't suggest sleeping with your chin down cause this can cause neck and back pain and after awhile it can actually trigger headaches when your blood pressure goes up
happened to me one time i was sleeping with my head at an arch and everytime, i would work out or get angry i'd get a mind splitting headache, once i began to sleep normally within a week it stopped hasn't happened since

Playing4Uni3rds 03-02-2006, 11:07 PM I used to struggle to keep my chin down, I fixed this by stappling my chin to my chest, I did bleed a lot and when I arrived at the hospital the doctor said he wasn't too impressed, they had to remove most of my chin, so in a way I don't have the same problem anymore..... SORTED :D

i had the exact same problem , if you wanna keep your chin down and ur gloves up just do some shadow boxing for about 25 - 30 mins every day (except the days u train)make sure u tuck ur chin in and get used to it and keep your hands up keep your right agaisnt ur face (if ur an ortadox ) and ur left tucked in aswell , keep your elbows tucked in too , i know this will feel uncomfy but its gonna be usefull in the long run , just shadow box and get used to it and it will eventually come ;)

LightsOut Le 03-03-2006, 08:39 PM put a tennis ball underneath your chin...or a small ball, and shadow box wile keeping it stuck under your chin...the way i realized my chin was exposed was when...everytime i backs up..i always got hooked on the chin..so i shadowboxed with the tennis ball..helps alot...

no problem man , i know how annoying it was for me , my trainer used to always be on at me and clipping me with the pads when i put my chin up,and a professional boxer tht we spar with said to me you would be a a really good boxer if it wasnt for ur chin going up cos he said i have a fast jab but im still gonna get caught if my chins up , so i went home and worked on it , it does work , cos my trainer commented on it saying im alot better with my chin now.good luck man

You need to spar with some better fighters, after getting busted in the chin a time or two you will learn to keep it tucked and to move your head. Sparring is really the best thing you can do for all around better results

getting busted in the chin dusnt help u keep it down , it makes u worse trust me i tred tht one
