THE RIGHT ARM on the head with his left arm going across his belly....the way mayweather and toney use it.........it just seems like they are impossible to hit........do they block punches with their left shoulders or what? I dont understand how it works so effectively

I know what you mean Mayweather like cages him self in with his arm and then ducks under punches. Great defense, I think Mayweather is the best defensive fighter in boxing.

i used to exercise this defense manuever. its damn good for hooks and uppercuts. You basically roll your shoulder and slip punches by ducking your head almast under your shoulder. but the problem was that you get hit on a back of your shoulder too many times and might get an injury. Really this defense is good for fighters with lightning fast reflexes so they can move out from after first punches. i on the other hand injured my shoulder and had change my style.

It also makes you susceptible to an over hand right.

Toney will get KO if he uses this defence against a big HW (Lewis, Klitchko or Rahman).

If you get too side own it can diminish your offensive game (as the right hand must travel too far) and you leave yourself vulnerable to liver shots also.

Truth liver shots were somewhat of a problem but in amatures they are not widely used in America and banned in Europe.

I think you're going a little too far to call him a bad father...

Don't use that defense if you don't have the reflexes for it.

This is hillarious. Toney will get KO'ed by an OVERHAND RIGHT by a heavyweight??

ahahahhahaha. Do I need to explain to you how silly that is?

It works because all u have to really worry about is the right. If u keep side steping and have decent reflexes (in toneys and Floyds case there great) its very difficult to land any clean shots.

I think they hunch up their left shoulder to make the right hands miss. I notice that floyd turns a lot, letting his opponents hit him, and it doesn't look like it hurts him. Maybe this is the new style of rope a dope, cause it tires out the opponents pretty quickly when they can't land clean punches.

Mayweather Snr. is the worst trainer in boxing, he completely destroyed ODLH.

Mayweather sr obviously isn't the best sort of man or father he could of been, but he's not a bad trainer, shame he's got he's head so far up his own arse, i love the shoulder rolling defence though it's wonderful to watch when it's working well, but when it doesn't you will get hit again and again with the right hand

i love watching floyd fight in the pocket, he's masterful at it. he turns his body so well when he's in that defence that you could hardly even hit him in the chest if you tried, hes to fast to be hit anywhere else.

Watch De La Hoya vs. Sturm for an example of the shoulder roll not working

i've tried the technique in sparring... your left shoulder deflects right hands and your right hand against your head protects against left hooks, but you have to roll, bob and weave with punches... like other have mentioned, it works best if you have quick reflexes or are facing someone slow enough to see the punches coming...
