It's mostly young suburban white kids. That's what makes up most of the mainstream fanbase. A rapper doesn't go platinum in the hood. They go platinum in the suburbs.

That's about the dumbest thing I've heard in a while. That just shows that you don't listen to a lot of rap. Yeah, the majority of the stuff you see on tv is centered around that, but there's alot of modern rap that's not all about that. Try doing your research before you make statements, next time.

the only thing thats koo is freestyle friday and throwback thursdays, yet i dont watch it. the only show i watched was rap city, now that show is a ****en joke. i dont need tv to find out was hot, i just read forums and websites such as hiphopdx.com, allhiphop.com, dubcnn.com, and few others.

106 & Park wasn't aimed for real hip hop heads or fans with descent hip hop knowledge. Remember their first few shows when they played the "Old School Joint", and it'd be the Hot Boys, or DMX. It was aimed for teens, thats the music they listen to and calling radio stations to play.So yeah, a whack a** artist can come out and say "Shake dat laffy taffy" an sell records(I understand the South is hotter right now than they've been, but come on man).Yeah suburban kids buy these records to but they aren't the ones hypin' it.

Man, the last time I went out and bought something was MOP Warrioz... If I do bump something, its usually early to mid ninties stuff. Old Wu , E-40, Brotha lynch, Pac, Spice 1, Mac Dre... The **** they throw at you on TV I just laugh at anymore. Glad to have the intraweb where I can get good **** for free, and don't have to settle for the **** they market on MTV.

No I'm not a 50 cent fan--I hate the mother****er. Why do I have to be a 50 cent fan to say that there is some good modern rap out there, anyways? Anyone that has a good knowledge of rap would know that; while there are terrible rap acts out there, like the majority of the south, there are good contemporary rappers such as Slug, Apathy, Jo Jo Pellegrino, Az, Nas, Eminem, Rass Kass, Pharoah Monch. These rappers, and others, are still putting out quality material that is more than the weak **** that Mr.V said that all present rap is.

On a more serious note, the point of my thread was to point out the lack of support that real rap artist get. To often I see garbage on the countdowns that doesn't belong on it. My question is this: There are obviously real rap fans out there, so why is it that we aren't supporting the real rappers better? Why's it that Jo Jo Pellegrino and Wu-Tang can put out albums and singles and they never see the light of day on the radio? I think alot of us real rap fans complain about the **** on tv, but it seems like we don't give enough support to the rappers that we feel are the only ones keeping it real. More often that not, it's the real rap fan that won't purchase the record or vote the single on the countdown.
