Mechanics for the BoxingScene People Choice Awards:

Categories
There will be 6 initial categories in which every participant (registered voter) will vote for a winner:

1. Boxingscene Member of the Month – This category aims to recognize members who has contributed to the overall value of the discussion on the Boxingscene forums. The winner of this award has posts that are intelligent, meaningful, sensible, logical, respectable/respectful, carefully thought of and brilliant.

2. Idiot of the Month – This is the opposite of the Boxingscene Member of the Month category. You will vote for a poster whose posts have little or no value at all. The winner of this award has posts that are absurd, ridiculous, nonsense, inflammatory, hateful, degrading, and outright stupid.

3. Best Overall Thread of the Month – This category recognizes the thread that best appeal to the members of the BoxingScene. You will vote for a thread that is most relevant, worthy of discussion, and adds to boxing fans’ and audiences’ interest and knowledge about the topic and boxing in general. The thread doesn’t have to be boxing-related.

4. Funniest Thread of the Month - This category is an offshoot from the Best Overall Thread of the month and was added here by popular demand. You will vote for a thread that makes you laugh out to your heart's content (i.e. lmfao :D). This thread must be the funniest thread around.

5. Newbie of the Month - The same criteria as the Boxing Poster of the Month except that this poster is a new member (has less than 100 posts) on the BoxingScene forums.

6. Avatar of the Month – The best looking and most awesome avatar out there.

How to join
Any BoxingScene member with at least a single post in any BoxingScene threads is an automatic candidate for the BoxigScene Member of the Month and Idiot of the Month for the month the post(s) was/were made. Any new member with less than 100 posts or has just registered on BS within the first 2 months with at least a single post in any Boxingscene forums is an automatic candidate for the Newbie of the Month for the month that the post(s) was/were made. Any new thread started in a particular month is an automatic candidate for Thread of the Month for that period.

How to vote
Any BS member is automatically a "registered" voter and can vote on this contest. To cast your vote, you need to use the "monthly ballot". Use the Windows "copy" & "paste" functions from your PM notepad, write down your vote for each category and PM it back to me on or before the voting deadline.

Each voter will write down the poster’s username/thread of the candidate he is voting for for that particular month. Every voter must return the ballot with their votes to me (by PM) 3 days before the month ends for tallying. Any ballots received after that period will be disqualified. Any voter can only vote once in a month.

Choosing the winner
The candidate that garnered the highest votes for each category for the month will be declared the winner for that month. Any category that received no votes/nominations for that month will have no winner. No previous winning avatar, thread or newbie can be voted again.

Winners will be announced and posted on a separate monthly winners thread during the first week of the following month.

Prizes
1. Your name posted on the BoxingScene board for posterity!
2. Cash prizes (less tax) depending on awards funds availability. I will indicate how much cash prizes are at stake for a particular month (if ever there are any.)
3. The Idiot of the Month winner doesn't get any cash prize (for the obvious reason).

Donations
If anybody wants to donate to the awards fund, you can send cash to me, just click the donate button at the bottom of my avatar. Please notify me after you made your donation. I will update the awards funds balance and commitments from the generous members of this forum.

Great idea JaNnO. I think it is a good idea to say that the same person/thread can't win the award twice in a row. I also like the idea that of having a clear voting period. 1st of the month to ~27th of the month, and winners are announced on the last day of each month.

There should also be a rule where members with multiple user ID's can only vote with one of their accounts. I don't know how we could safegaurd against this. Maybe Rick could help.

Hello Janno. Thanks a lot for PMing me. You said that your contest is open for modification. I think you should modify the rules for newbie of the month. The rule you have now states 100 posts or less. I have looked around the site for the few days I was here and noticed there are people here that joined the site as far back as May 2004 and still have less than 100 posts, that is not exactly a newbie IMO. That is a lazy poster not a newbie. Also I have seen new people who have been here only a few days and have 150 or more posts. My suggestion is that you should make it 250 posts or less rather than 100 poster less, or base it on the fact that the member just joined in a one or two month period prior to the awards. Example anyone who joined in the month of January is eligible for newbie of the month for February regardless of post count. Just a suggestion. Otherwise thank you.

Whew...it was really an interesting two days. Anyways, back to business.

I recently made a change to the voting rules. There is not going to be a registration process anymore. Now all BS posters can vote on this contest by copying the "monthly ballot" at the bottom of the mechanics/rules (1st post of this thread) and sending it to me with the votes in each category.

In this way, I don't have to bother you guys for sending me a PM to register and I don't have to send you the ballot every month end. Remember, every member can vote only once for a particular awards month.

Also as suggested by Phantom Menace (with some modifications), a newbie is now defined as a BS poster with less than 100 posts or has been a BS member for not more than 2 months.

There will be 6 initial categories in which every participant (registered voter) will vote for a winner:

1. Boxingscene Member of the Month – This category aims to recognize members who has contributed to the overall value of the discussion on the Boxingscene forums. The winner of this award has posts that are intelligent, meaningful, sensible, logical, respectable/respectful, carefully thought of and brilliant.

2. Idiot of the Month – This is the opposite of the Boxingscene Member of the Month category. You will vote for a poster whose posts have little or no value at all. The winner of this award has posts that are absurd, ridiculous, nonsense, inflammatory, hateful, degrading, and outright stupid.

3. Best Overall Thread of the Month – This category recognizes the thread that best appeal to the members of the BoxingScene. You will vote for a thread that is most relevant, worthy of discussion, and adds to boxing fans’ and audiences’ interest and knowledge about the topic and boxing in general. The thread doesn’t have to be boxing-related.

4. Funniest Thread of the Month - This category is an offshoot from the Best Overall Thread of the month and was added here by popular demand. You will vote for a thread that makes you laugh out to your heart's content (i.e. lmfao :D). This thread must be the funniest thread around.

5. Newbie of the Month - The same criteria as the Boxing Poster of the Month except that this poster is a new member (has less than 100 posts) on the BoxingScene forums.

6. Avatar of the Month – The best looking and most awesome avatar out there.

How to join
Any BoxingScene member with at least a single post in any BoxingScene threads is an automatic candidate for the BoxigScene Member of the Month and Idiot of the Month for the month the post(s) was/were made. Any new member with less than 100 posts or has just registered on BS within the first 2 months with at least a single post in any Boxingscene forums is an automatic candidate for the Newbie of the Month for the month that the post(s) was/were made. Any new thread started in a particular month is an automatic candidate for Thread of the Month for that period.

How to vote
Any BS member is automatically a "registered" voter and can vote on this contest. To cast your vote, you need to use the "monthly ballot". Use the Windows "copy" & "paste" functions from your PM notepad, write down your vote for each category and PM it back to me on or before the voting deadline.

Each voter will write down the poster’s username/thread of the candidate he is voting for for that particular month. Every voter must return the ballot with their votes to me (by PM) 3 days before the month ends for tallying. Any ballots received after that period will be disqualified. Any voter can only vote once in a month.

Choosing the winner
The candidate that garnered the highest votes for each category for the month will be declared the winner for that month. Any category that received no votes/nominations for that month will have no winner. No previous winning avatar, thread or newbie can be voted again.

Winners will be announced and posted on a separate monthly winners thread during the first week of the following month.

Prizes
1. Your name posted on the BoxingScene board for posterity!
2. Cash prizes (less tax) depending on awards funds availability. I will indicate how much cash prizes are at stake for a particular month (if ever there are any.)
3. The Idiot of the Month winner doesn't get any cash prize (for the obvious reason).

Donations
If anybody wants to donate to the awards fund, you can send cash to me, just click the donate button at the bottom of my avatar. Please notify me after you made your donation. I will update the awards funds balance and commitments from the generous members of this forum.
