Castillo-Corrales implodes!
By Karl Freitag & Bill Luppert
Just when it looked like the fight would happen, the proposed March 5 lightweight unification beout between WBC champion Jose Luis Castillo and WBO champion Diego Corrales collapsed earlier today. "Diego would not sign the bout agreement," promoter Gery Shaw informed *********.com. Shaw stated that to their credit Showtime extended the deadline to make the fight happen numerous times, however "this is one time they said that if they don't have the bout agreement today, it's over. Around 4:30 or 5 p.m., they pulled the plug." He also commented, "I have a lot of respect for Diego. He's a tremendous fighter."

I`m getting bored with this Corrales guy!! Castillo should fight someone with a heart!

Corrales didnt look in shape on ESPN. a slight double chin was apparent. The suit was a little tight on him too.

I belive Casamayor beat Castillo, I dont think Corrales has anything to fear, he will win by KO.

But on ESPN2 tonight, Corrales appeared very confident about this fight. So let's see what happens.

Regardless of what Corrales said last night, the fight's off. Showtime officially pulled the plug, saying enough is enough, placing the blame soley on Corrales and his promoters.

All you 'Castillo is a coward' people can eat crow now.

That guy flip-flops around too much for my liking! On FNF last night, he talked about the fight, as in it was gonna happen. BUT, after that on ShowBox (Showtime) they announced that the fight had fallen thru due to "in-fighting within the Corrales camp"?? (what the hell ever that means  ) and that he'd be fighting Julio Diaz instead (I think..cant swear to it cause I was very tired by that time after a busy day :o and they may have meant that Castillo would facing Diaz ). I didnt think I'd ever see the day where he was literally afraid to face someone, but that seems to be the case here (unless there is more to it; he should make a public statement just to clear the issue up). I've not liked Chico every since he beat his pregnant wife (ex-wife now) up, and I dont think I'll ever like him

He can lay the blame on whoever he wants, but on showtime they made it clear that it was due to fighting within Corrales' camp

Here's an article about the "in-fighting": http://www.maxboxing.com/Kim/Kim012205.asp

And yeah, Corrales saying 'if the fight doesn't go off, it's Castillo's fault' on FNF was some ho ****, plain and simple.

Unbelievable! Shaw was actually going to waive his fee and let Diego make all the money if he'd just get back in the ring! Now that's damn unheard of... Coralles MUST be worried that Castillo can and will beat him; nothing else makes any sense. Didnt think it possible, but I like him even LESS now!

i think Castillo will beat Corrales, Chico has serious mental lapses inside the ring - it's like he forgets his game plan in there for a while, i think Castillo will catch him at one of those times and KTFO him. Freitas was overrated, Castillo will be the real test, if it evr happens

Frietas is overrated, and he was schooling Diego until he got tired. I like Chico, but he is not as good as everyone thinks he is.

You're giving too much credit to Casamayor. His losses are always controversial, but the bottom line is that he loses close decisions because he doesn't fight every round of every fight. Sometimes he gives away the early rounds, as with Corrales, and sometimes he slows down at the end, as with Castillo.

I dont think he is either; he has great power, and extremely long arms going for him, but honestly that's about it, in my opinion ;)

Castillo won that Cassamayor fight clean. Cassamayor didn't even come to fight he came to slow dance he was holding so much. Cassamayor looked like a Cuban John Ruiz and was on the verge of being KO'ed the last 3 rounds and barley made it to the end.

I'd have to check my documents for the exact score (although I think its the same as yours) but I too had Castillo winning by atleast 2-3 rounds. And I was rooting for Casamayor too!

1-3 Casamayor 4-8 Castillo 9 Casamayor 10-12 Castillo.Thats how i scored it.

I had it:
Castillo rounds-4,5,6,7,10, 11, and 12
Casamayor-1,2,3,8 and 9
Immediately after the fight, I posted that some of the rd's were so close and difficult to score that I had to break some of them down into min's...as in, who won the first min, who won the second min, and who won the third min...then, who won 2 of the min's of that particular round. Sounds crazy maybe, but in the close one's it works for me anyway :o

Casamayor didn't look like himself to me, he was holding quite a bit like jose said, and he wasn't really trying to win the fight, it's like he was sparring or something, while Castillo put pressure on him throughout the entire fight. I felt Castillo won the fight, and he deserved it as well.

Corrales needs to surround himself with more people who would look after his career better. James Prince and giving options to Artie Pellulo is definitely not the way to go. This Castillo fight should have happened last year dammit!

Indeed. One of the times where the benefits of the 15 rounds would have been seen. Last rounds Casamayor was worn out and the shots to the body by castillo had taken a toll on him.

Yes, he did. As much as I like Casamayor, I had to score it objectively, and in the later rounds he simply did not do enough. Too bad, and I'd definately watch a rematch between him and Castillo or Corrales
