Ok guys, I really would like to get into the boxing scene, I play Rugby now and will continue to do so but my dad isn't so enthusiastic about me trying to get into boxing, he's just afraid my brain will go dead which is understanable from a parents standpoint. I'm about 6'o and 190 (at 16 years) and really want to get started. I think once I start getting a steady income if I pay myself my dad would go along with it. What I'm really wondering though is before I get enrolled into a boxing gym or get a trainer what can I do at my gym (24 hr) to I guess get ready? Also how can I change my diet to better suit my needs? I eat pretty healthy as is with no soda and 2 or 3 pieces of fruit a day usually a course of meat and one of veggies. All your guy's help is greatly appreciated, Eric

your not gonna learn much from 24 hr

go to a real boxing gym or club.

they'll teach you all you'll need to learn

Lol, I know I won't learn much from them, what I was kinda asking was is there any routine I can go through with weights/cardio to get started on my own? Not necessarily getting a trainer from 24, just a way to start getting in boxing shape

if u play rugby ur probly fit and inshape already, eatin right. You'll just have to get use to working different muscles. Get ur self a bag for home, join a gym to get ur technique down pat. your probly educated with ur weights.Hot tip: dont really on that 1 hit k.o just cos you think you have the power, you need to get your fighter i.q up first.
Hunna on here is a rugby player/boxer 2

I suppose the only thing you can work on in that sort of gym is your cardio vascular and stamina.

Try short fast circuits with the emphasis on stretching your cardio limits, for example try an ab and leg circuit, break it down into 10 different exercises, 5 ab and 5 legs, work each exercise for 30 secs then change without rest until you have done all ten, then skip or get on a bike for 5 mins and work at a steady state until you have recovered. Then same again this time for 25 secs each exercise, then 20 secs, then 15 secs!

Repeat until you have attained 10 secs each exercise, (Takes about 30 mins for whole circuit)

Alternatively you could do Pyramids or tri repeats?

PM me and I will sort out some circuits for you!

You are already plenty big, meaning you will be fighting big guys that can knock your head off, so a lot will depend on whether you can take a punch. Given you can, big guys have the worst stamina in the world, making the most boring fights, so, like the other posters say, you need to work on endurance, meaning 3 minutes of continuous action at a try. Probably the best thing is, if you are carrying any lard, try to make light heavy, rather than cruiser....
