See, the way I listen to music is I explore a particular genre until I get sick of it.

Right now, the music I listen to happens to be 60s British invasion. A genre which includes the Beatles, the Byrds and the Who.

I listen to it because I was checking out some of the tunes on the Rolling Stone "500 Greatest Songs" list.

ONe of the standout groups of this particular genre for me is The Animals. I don't think many people have heard of these guys. Their best songs I think are "Little Red Riding Hood", "When I was Young" and "House of the Rising Sun."

"Little Red Riding Hood" was by Sam the Sham and the Pharoahs. The Animals or Eric Burton (lead singer) would never have done something so silly. Other Animals hits were "We Gotta Get Outa this Place" and "For Miss Caulker". Burton had a comeback solo hit in the late 70s with "Spill the Wine (Dig that Girl)".

I have heard a Little Red Riding Hood version by the Animals though. This version definitely had Burdon's vocals. I have heard Sam the Sham's version too.

Little Red Riding Hood is NOT a silly song. If you think they are talking about the fairy tale then you missed the point.

The animals were my late uncle's favorite band of all time. The funny thing is, 'House of the Rising Sun' and 'When I was young' could have both been about his life.

And the other hit by Sam and the Pharoahs, "Wooley Bully" was about vaginal grooming!
Show me a link to the Animals version. I don't believe it. I haven't missed that much in my music career, slim.
My first band won a "Battle of the Bands" competiution on the strength of my version of "RidingHood"" btw, back around the mid 60s.

I dunno, you are probably right, I mean, you are from the same country as them so I hesitate doubting your word.

I don't have the song with me right now.

I'm not from Great Britain but I am a bit of an expert on music.
I'm also a guy who will admit when i'm wrong so I just spent over a half hour going over their complete discography...no version of the song is listed. I didn't think it would be there but we DID use a lot of chemicals back then and did some pretty silly ****! :D

OK. I am wrong.

My favorite animals songs.

"House of the Rising Sun"
"When I Was Young"

But I STILL say that "Little Red Riding Hood" is not innocuous.

House Of The Rising Sun is one of my top favorites of all time.

The Kinks (You Really Got me!) were terrific. I also liked The Monkees and Herman's Hermits. I even saw a movie by HH, titled Mrs. Brown You Got A Lovely Daughter, taken from one of their hits and was about a racing dog named Mrs. Brown.
